subleq··on FIDO2 security key company publishes results of internal security audit
When I try to create an account, I get an error message:

> Your security key can't be used with this site

> www.deadmansswitch.net may require a newer or different kind of security key

This is with a Yubico Security Key 2 which I thought supported FIDO2.

subleq··on Turning PostgreSQL into a queue serving 10k jobs per second (2013)
I wrote django-postgres-queue for this purpose. It uses postgres transactions to keep queue and application state in sync. It also uses SKIP LOCKED to avoid some of the typical issues with using a database as a queue.

subleq··on If You Run a Small Business, Park in the Back of the Parking Lot
I meant in a 5 whys type of way. Why must you live 40 miles from work?

subleq··on Joanna Rutkowska leaves Qubes OS, joins Golem
> We've had a client have us use their endpoint before

What does that mean?

subleq··on Benzodiazepines: Our Other Prescription Drug Problem
You have your schedules mixed up. All controlled substances have a potential for abuse. Schedule IV drugs only have a 'low' potential for abuse 'relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule III', not low overall. You could argue that it should be schedule III, but all controlled substances, regardless of their schedule, are more tightly controlled than any other unscheduled prescription-only drug.

Omeprazole is not a controlled substance and is OTC in the United States.

subleq··on GLB: GitHub's open source load balancer
This is the first I've heard of Rendezvous hashing. It seems superior in every respect to the ring-based consistent hashing I've heard much more about. Why is the ring-based method more common?
subleq··on The Bugs Are Winning
Why are there so many downvotes? There is a journal article linked that questions the common wisdom that failing to complete a prescribed antibiotic course contributes to antibiotic resistance that everyone replying is parroting.
subleq··on Birds had to relearn flight after meteor wiped out dinosaurs
What are the 4 times that flight has evolved?
subleq··on Bitcoin mining heats homes for free in Siberia [video]
How much are they paying for power?
subleq··on Strategies for offline PGP key storage
What's the point of storing data inside a combination safe? Isn't that equivalent to encrypting the data with the combination to the safe and storing it wherever?
subleq··on Timescale, an open-source time-series SQL database for PostgreSQL
I don't have any experience with this type of thing, so that sounds like an incredibly large amount of data. What are you doing that requires it? What type of useful queries are you even able to perform over 432 billion records?
subleq··on Design and Implementation of a 256-Core BrainFuck Computer [pdf]
The instruction encoding seems inefficient -- they don't use the full 4 bits of information (the first bit is always zero except for `.`). Why not use a 3-bit encoding, since there are 8 instructions?
subleq··on Things I Hate About PostgreSQL (2013)
What's the difference between "real" stored procedures and postgres functions?
subleq··on The radical plan to destroy time zones
Yep. Reality is indeed complicated. We have timezones to manage the complexity.

Django Software Engineers - Full time, Onsite, Denver, Colorado

At Fusionbox, the engineers work on tasks that span from server provisioning and system administration to server-side development to JavaScript fronted interface developing (though we have specialists in each area). In addition to working on client projects, we have our own portfolio of open source projects that the engineers maintain.

subleq··on Sqitch - Sane database change management
Django. Migrations are modeled as a DAG instead of a linear sequence, so you can create migrations in conflicting branches as much as you want, and just create a 'merge' migration (that does nothing but combine the two branches) when you merge the branches.
