sturza··on Ask HN: What have you built with LLMs?
I built a RAG implementation for 35k books/articles/wiki pages/web pages i collected over the years(it took about 6 weeks on 3070ti 100% constant usage). I query it with various steps of data extraction/narrative building/refining etc, over LLMs. Almost daily i figure out new steps to add to the pipeline and honestly, i could not imagine learning about niche topic x from so many perspectives/periods in such a short time(including the original source). I did not yet figure out how to package this, but i spend at least 2h of my free time daily with it. Ideas and feedback is welcome.

sturza··on Jesus nut
The related slang term Jesus pin refers to the lock pin used to secure the retaining nut. More generally, Jesus nut (or Jesus pin) has been used to refer to any component that is a single point of failure which results in catastrophic consequences, and the only thing left to do is, metaphorically speaking, pray to Jesus, hence the name.

In Afghanistan, it's not just a conflict between the West and the Taliban. It's also a tug-of-war between tribal traditions and religious rules. Surprisingly, the women, often seen as sidelined, might be the ones to watch as they navigate and challenge both systems.

sturza··on Cargo Cult Science (1974) [pdf]
> It is interesting, therefore, to bring it out now and speak of it explicitly. It’s a kind of scientific integrity, a principle of scientific thought that corresponds to a kind of utter honesty—a kind of leaning over backwards. For example, if you’re doing an experiment, you should report everything that you think might make it invalid—not only what you think is right about it: other causes that could possibly explain your results; and things you thought of that you’ve eliminated by some other experiment, and how they worked—to make sure the other fellow can tell they have been eliminated.

Feels appropriate to the current LK99 discussions

> It’s is possible for stripe to want to serve SMBs and also not have the resources to provide the necessary support an SMB needs when their account is in trouble in a timely manner.

sturza··on Living without a smartphone: The definitive guide
> What would you rather read? An AI generated, NLP-infused news article, or a classic novel that’s been around for decades or centuries?

I think you're missing everything in between these extremes. "Real" books(as per your definition) can be in digital form as well, ain't nothing wrong with having a kindle.

> Ignoring a massive sector of businesses who might one day be the next "big thing" would be foolish for one thing and an unwise financial decision for another.

So Stripe would sacrifice enterprise high volume customers because they hope/speculate that low volume SMBs will one day be big, if they'd need to choose where to direct resources? I highly doubt it.

sturza··on ChatGPT leaks answers to others queries when you prompt with a specific pattern
As proof, it gave me multiple rewrite answers saying that what i asked(random user’s ask) was not meeting their guidelines/safety and cannot answer.
sturza··on Stripe is no longer a suitable payment processor
If you had to choose where to put resources between high volume enterprise and low volume SMBs, you’d choose the former.
sturza··on ChatGPT leaks answers to others queries when you prompt with a specific pattern
I filed a bug on BugCrowd with this issue, from the api, but it was dismissed. if you ask it to “rewrite” as the system message and no user message, it rewrites some random user’s message.

Edit: if i remember correctly it was the 16k gpt3.5 turbo model
