strunz··on Disney, Warner, Comcast, and Paramount are contemplating cuts, possible mergers
Isn't Suits - a long since lapsed cable series - like the most popular thing on Netflix? So was Friends, Seinfeld, and The Office for a time too. People love to think they can generalize all streamers into a bucket when in reality it's not as simple as anyone thinks. Viewing trends change all the time and can be unpredictable, even horrible stuff gets tons of views.
strunz··on Software audio routers
Alternatively if you have a simple DAC you can just route an output back to an input and record in any free DAW. It simplifies things so much.

This feels very much like the "Android is way better than iOS, why pay more?" argument
strunz··on Spotify will end service in Uruguay due to bill requiring fair pay for artists
There are only so many chords, this means nothing. Songs can use the same chords and be totally unique.
strunz··on Spotify will end service in Uruguay due to bill requiring fair pay for artists
This is such a tired argument. Even the "crap" back then had professional songwriters and musicians playing actual instruments with some semblance of artistry. Go listen to the global top 50 on Spotify and it's hard to even call it music. It's generally the same trap/reggaeton beat with some autogenerated ambient sounds and someone mumbling in triplets over it. Almost none of it is memorable or original, and has very little artistic merit IMO. It's basically AI generated emotionless bytes.

Ah yes, let's use the most successful band of all time as the example not the exception

Magsafe batteries make it pretty easy actually
strunz··on How to Move Your Google Photos
I deleted so much stuff from my old PCs due to disk space constraints at the time, and I wish so badly I had just bought another disk. It would be so great to still have some of that stuff, of not purely for historical record. You don't know what you'll miss 10 years from now.

>If you have a fever it can reduce it, but for a minor fever I'm not sure that is necessary.

I think it's generally good to have a mild fever since it's how your body makes itself inhospitable to viruses

strunz··on The Banality of Genius: Notes on Peter Jackson's Get Back (2022)
Virtuoso does not mean "plays a lot of notes". Music isn't an olympiad. Paul is virtuosic in his creativity and originality, note choices, rhythms, tone, as well as playing many complex parts in relation to the rest of the song.
strunz··on George Carlin's "Soft Language" (2019)
You're confusing technical terms for common usage. Obviously the words still exist and may mean different things, George's point is about how the softer language is used in common life, sometimes nefariously. Keep reading the article and get to the section on "shell shock" for a better example.
strunz··on The Banality of Genius: Notes on Peter Jackson's Get Back (2022)
Paul was most certainly a virtuosic bass player, and both he and John could be called virtuosic singers. At least by rock music standards.

You may want to read the article you're commenting on, which posits the very opposite of what you're contending here

He also specifically asked if he used "anal beads", which are a specific thing, so even if he did use a different sex toy to cheat, he could've answered that honestly.
strunz··on Show HN: Learn piano without sheet music
It's even more frustrating on guitar where the literal same note in the same octave appears all over the fretboard. You have to figure out all the notes nearby to figure out what position you should be in. Even with years of experience I find tabs faster

Apple Weather may be better, but DarkSky is gone and it has not included all the features it used to have, such as hourly rain probability for any day.

strunz··on Emoji Generator with AI
Awesome job! One criticism I have is these are emoji, they're more like bitmoji or memoji.
strunz··on Ask HN: What are some well-designed websites?
Design is about more than cosmetics. Usability and layout is key and engineers have a great perspective on that.
strunz··on Python: Overlooked core functionalities
That's pretty brilliant to use `children` as the keyword name, thanks!
strunz··on Python: Overlooked core functionalities
I actually had a great use case for this last week. Needed to flatten a list of nested dicts, e.g.:

  [
    {"name": "/dev/loop0"},
    {"name": "/dev/loop1"},
    {"name": "/dev/loop2"},
    {
      "name": "/dev/sda",
      "children":
        [
          {
            "name": "/dev/sda1",
            "children":
              [{"name": "/dev/mapper/lubuntu--vg-root"}, {"name": "/dev/mapper/lubuntu--vg-swap_1"}],
          },
        ],
    },
    {"name": "/dev/sdb", "children": [{"name": "/dev/sdb1"}, {"name": "/dev/sdb2"}]},
    {"name": "/dev/sdc", "children": [{"name": "/dev/sdc1"}, {"name": "/dev/sdc9"}]},
  ]
Wound up writing a recursive generator (with some help from #python on IRC):

  def flatten(items):
      for item in items:
          yield {k:v for k,v in item.items() if k != 'children'}
          if 'children' in item:
              yield from flatten(item['children'])
which results in:

  [{'name': '/dev/loop0'},
   {'name': '/dev/loop1'},
   {'name': '/dev/loop2'},
   {'name': '/dev/sda'},
   {'name': '/dev/sda1'},
   {'name': '/dev/mapper/lubuntu--vg-root'},
   {'name': '/dev/mapper/lubuntu--vg-swap_1'},
   {'name': '/dev/sdb'},
   {'name': '/dev/sdb1'},
   {'name': '/dev/sdb2'},
   {'name': '/dev/sdc'},
   {'name': '/dev/sdc1'},
   {'name': '/dev/sdc9'}]
strunz··on Hollywood movie aside, just how good a physicist was Oppenheimer?
Well Amadeus is complete fiction so I wouldn't base anything from history on that.
strunz··on Hollywood movie aside, just how good a physicist was Oppenheimer?
Ironically they portray Einstein as sort of out of touch with contemporary quantum physics in the movie and explain that as the reason he wasn't part of the Manhattan a project.

strunz··on Sarah Silverman is suing OpenAI and Meta for copyright infringement
Look at how many people get blocked or demonetized for covers of existing songs which may not even be that close to the original. You can't even play a few seconds of the original in many cases, even for fair use and criticism/discussion. This is already in place.
