So it was a fake bomb threat coming from the government.

If by FUD you mean doubt in the validity of government statistics, you are correct.

But deceptive things should be doubted.

stretchwithme··on Inefficient Efficiency (2019)
Some of the same ideas, like cost of delay, are presented in The Principles of Product Development Flow.
stretchwithme··on Efficiency Is the Enemy
I wonder how much the company would save if they just gave you a budget for the trip and let you make the arrangements yourself on your own time and keep the difference.

I trusted Amazon to book me a simple flight for an interview and I wound up with the absolute worst seat on the plane. The only thing that saved my 6'2" frame from being crushed into a corner was the kindness of a stranger who gave me their seat on the aisle. I know I can do better on my own!

stretchwithme··on Efficiency Is the Enemy
Seems like some of the same ideas in Donald Reinertsen presents in his books and videos. He thinks in queues and the cost of delay.

The cost of delay when you try to keep everyone busy all the time.

I'm reading his book The Principles of Product Development Flow.

stretchwithme··on “About one-third of Basecamp employees accepted buyouts today”
Breaking a voluntarily agreed upon exclusive arrangement is not the same as not submitting to someone's request to go along their individual perception of reality.

Agreed, especially if things are slipping BECAUSE of all the time lost to political battles.

In any marketplace, there are always people who decide not to deal with any given participant. That doesn't mean they have more or less power. There are still others to deal with.

Sure, ending a relationship is disruptive. But moving on is perfectly feasible.

Nature demonstrates that very small machines are possible. We just haven't learned how to build them yet.
stretchwithme··on Farming robot kills 100k weeds per hour with lasers
Robots will eventually kill bugs too.

Once they get small enough, homes will one day have insect-sized robots in the walls preventing termite and other insect infestations. But maybe without lasers.

We need to fix how we select our representation.

Winner-take-all elections lead to weak control over who represents your interests. It's like being party to a lawsuit where one attorney represents all parties.

And you can't fire your attorney for four years.

In the single attorney situation, SELECTING the attorney would be the major struggle. And then that attorney has all the power. The parties would then have to lobby the attorney to win the case.

And that's why our elections have become such a struggle and why lobbyists can buy votes.

And that's why Wall street firms can call up their friends and get a multi-billion dollar bailout.

stretchwithme··on Min wage would be $44 / hour if it had grown at same rate as Wall Street bonuses
Being able to force other people to do things is a way of multiplying your efforts. And we still HIRE people and delegate tasks to them.

And, as Melting_Harps pointed out, weapons are a technology. And so is communication and methods of organizing a larger society.

Storing grain is a technology too. Even agriculture is a technology.

But now we have many more ways to do this. If I write an app and millions install and use it, I am multiplying the amount of work I can get done for people and what they are willing to pay for it.

Much better for them than threatening them with my army. Especially since I have been unable to find it. :-)

stretchwithme··on Min wage would be $44 / hour if it had grown at same rate as Wall Street bonuses
A society with no technology has hardly any wealth gap.

People who can leverage multiple technologies can multiply their efforts. Mass communication, mass distribution and automation of all sorts.

But Wall Street bonuses are subsidized by the fact the government socializes their biggest failures. Bailouts just encourage them to take greater risks, leveraging debt in dangerous ways that will blow up the system again.

If a new account can never used to establish your identity for other purposes, there's no problem opening such an account without government identifying you.

Why not FIX how an SSN can be used? It was not created for this purpose but that doesn't mean how we use it can't be fixed.

Any time someone attempts to use your SSN to identify themselves as you, you should be notified and your authorization should be required for that use to be allowed.

And the higher the value of the authorization, the more care should be required.

Companies are able to do this already with 2 factor authentication. And I think we SORT of have that for change of address, as the Post Office both requires ID and notifies you by mail. Maybe that's really just one factor.

Allow people to require as many additional factors as they want. Confirming my identity in 6 ways when I decide to sell my house sounds good. 4 ways when I buy a car. One or none is fine when I make a $10 purchase. Let me decide.

And let them CHOOSE what organization manages authentication. A private company might do the job a lot more effectively than the Post Office.

Add human methods too. A call from a sibling or child might be one people could set up. Require validation by a notary public.

stretchwithme··on Elon Musk’s anti-union tweet from 2018 must be deleted: U.S. labor board
Stock options are offered to people who are ready, willing and able to work harder or smarter in response to potential ownership. These are INDIVIDUAL contributions.

When a direct relationship exists between the parties, this is a possibility. When there is a third party dictating what happens, this is much less realistic.

stretchwithme··on Almost third of UK Covid hospital patients readmitted within four months
The American Lung Association has this article on the topic. And there is no consensus about how much is effective, etc.

'"When fine salt particles are inhaled, they will fall on the airway linings and draw water into the airway, thinning the mucus and making it easier to raise, thus making people feel better," said Dr. Edelman.'

https://www.lung.org/blog/promising-placebo-salt-halotherapy...

There is salt in the air at the beach, so I'd stay away from the ocean if you think inhaling salt is a bad idea.

All the more reason to make sure you're getting enough Vitamins D and K2.

Here's an interesting explanation of how Vitamin D helps the immune system.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT1CaTv5-e4

Vitamin D improves your uptake of calcium. Vitamin K2 makes sure calcium goes where it's supposed to go. You want your BONES calcified, not your arteries.

I had persistent lung congestion for weeks. I did some research online and found this thing called a salt inhaler. That cleared it up in a couple of days.

Salt has a way of pulling infections out of tissues.

Maybe he has no plans to offer stock because such incentives don't really work when your labor supply is captured by a monopoly.

That's the case for putting all predatory animals in zoos and feeding them vegetarian diets. Ending nature as we know it.

Some of those folks say they believe in animal rights too.

Keeping someone captive and ending their ability to reproduce seems more like abuse than love.

stretchwithme··on So You Want to Do an Infrastructure Package [pdf]
Compared to what other countries?

I think a lot of waste and corruption is due to winner-take-all elections. A representative that represents one party has to answer to that party. If he does not represent its interests, they will elect someone else next time.

In winner-take-all elections, you vote for your least worst option and representing one perspective doesn't as matter as much. It's easier to sell your vote to lobbyists.

But people are convinced that our elections were implemented in the best possible way, so there is a reluctance to even weigh the options.

stretchwithme··on Girls perform better academically in almost all countries (2015)
Sometimes. But people can move their kids to a different school, the environment referred to, if they live in a free society.

My parents did it. Sent to us to Catholic schools instead for many years. And we grew up on welfare.
