strategarius··on Apple to debut multiple ARM MacBook, desktop models in 2021
I'm curious what Parallels going to do. Running Windows and Linux applications with almost native integration into OSX ecosystem worth a lot, especially with all benefits of hardware virtualization. In theory PC could be virtualized on ARM, however software virtualization only. Going to watch the process. In general, Windows and Linux support ARM as well, not sure if hardware virtualization for ARM exist though
strategarius··on Why Don’t We Use Chemical Weapons Anymore?
Who are "we"? Assad regime and Russian mercenaries perfectly use it.
strategarius··on Audacious 4.0 released, switches from GTK to Qt 5
Natural selection in action. If you don't put enough effort for your framework to catch up modern language features and design principles, users would consider something else.
strategarius··on Are Flat Earthers Being Serious?
I'm still sure it's a some kind of joke that last longer than necessary, or mass trolling. I'm probably being too optimistic about people's mind in 21th century
strategarius··on TikTok told moderators to suppress posts by “ugly” people and the poor
Too many comments down there. Beijing troll factory noticed the post?

People should probably hate their lives using Chinese social network. Chinese are well-known for racism even against other Asian people, not to say all your information is being stored on servers of a communist totalitarian state.
strategarius··on What Is the Geometry of the Universe?
I imagined exactly the same. However, Planck experiments show that the universe is flat. It means, our theory was wrong - or the sphere is so big that we can't notice its curvature, thinking we're living on a flat 4-dimentional surface (almost like with Earth in ancient times)
strategarius··on Looking inside a vintage Soviet TTL logic integrated circuit
Old Russian joke: "Soviet microchips are largest microchips in the world!"
strategarius··on Microsoft plots the end of Visual Basic
Scratch is probably the most logical choice for teaching programming to kids (at least in an age when it's still hard for them to concentrate on multiple concepts before seing some results)

strategarius··on Jack Ma to send 500K coronavirus test kits, 1M face masks to US
> China has done much more to contain the virus

Like:

- censoring alarming posts in social networks for weeks

- threatening medical staff with prosecution in case of warning other people on early stages of pandemic

- flooding internet discussions with crowds of state trolls spreading disinformation

strategarius··on Surviving the coronavirus, then testing positive again
There are many cases of "false negative" with current testing kit. Most probably, patient who almost recovered, received false negative result and has been released from quarantine still being contagious. Partying with neighbors definitely was a bad idea.
strategarius··on Why I’m Using C
"Rust does not run any critical component like Linux Kernel..." - and the only reason why it is not happening (provided that C and Rust have perfect interoperability, more and more C/C++ developers get familiar with Rust) is the fact that Linus Torvalds convinced by voices from Ethernet socket not to use anything but C. I can't wait for him to retire so that Linux kernel devs could pick up more modern toolset
strategarius··on Why I’m Using C
"Reliability" - in a language with manual resource management and unsafe parallelism model? Really? BTW never heard of modern games written in C. Mainstream game engines (UE, Godot, Unity...) are written in C++ and C# and cover all major platforms and consoles. "Performance" - Rust is probably more performant when it comes to code, and definitely more performant when it comes to development time. "Simplicity" - primitivism is a closer definition.
