almost too good ...

Most houses are a monoculture of 20 somethings

I live in one of their houses. It has beautiful shared spaces and nice kitchens — but it is very expensive. Great place to live when you first arrive in a new city, but most people move on after ~6 months.

A nice thing is that the effective land lords (campus employees) are my age — which helps.

Previous versions of this vision statement described colonies on Mars ... so they've scaled it back a bit lol

Karmic Labs - San Francisco, CA - Fulltime - https://karmiclabs.com/

We're building an API first corporate payment card platform for small businesses. Our mission is to empower all employees to be able to make purchases for work, build powerful tools for companies to manage employee spending, and make traditional expense reporting a thing of the past.

* We're taking an API first approach and building with modern tools like Python3, Flask, Postgres, Ansible, AWS, AngularJS, and git.

* We’re solving real world problems that millions of businesses face every day.

* We have a small and tight knit team of engineers including founding engineers from Pinterest and Xfire.

* We raised our first round a few months ago and provide meals, health/vision/dental insurance, and standard startup perks.

* We’ve just moved in to an awesome office in SOMA near 8th and Folsom.

We’re currently looking to expand our small engineering team hiring DevOps, Generalist, and Frontend engineers. To apply, send us an email: jobs at karmiclabs dot com; be sure to tell us a bit about yourself and include a link to your github account or something that you’ve worked on recently.

stockninja··on Ways to Minimize Employee Retention
I was thinking the exact same. I have a very clear image of this domineering, unhinged alpha who ran op's previous company into the ground.

One problem -- Many Airbnb's don't list the actual address until the transaction is processed. Maybe you could include airbnb 'listings' -- but i guess the host could just change the listing ... something to think about.

a great article about using anki to improve as a programmer: http://www.jackkinsella.ie/2011/12/05/janki-method.html
stockninja··on Flask Web Development Book – 2014
I went through the pre-release and loved it. I was competent with python (2) going in and had done most of his tutorials. This book got me to the point of being able to make working web applications.

You follow along with https://github.com/miguelgrinberg/flasky and basically make a twitter clone -- which is fun. And its nice to be able to checkout the code using git and play with it instead of typing out the contents of the book.

As you can tell from his tutorials, he is a clear writer. And you get a nice taste of cryptography, Bootstrap, and Heroku.

I built http://superquest3.herokuapp.com/ over spring break after completing the book -- and I had never made anything but static websites before.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1223051718/practical-fl... is another flask book project you could check out ...

stockninja··on Show HN: To-learn list and course reminders
Awesome.

When evaluating MOOCS, I usually have a list of courses that sound cool, but I haven't investigated yet. Once I investigate them a bit more, I put the good ones on a much shorter list of classes which I actually plan to take.

Features to assist this process of narrowing down potential courses after discovering them (beyond ratings) would help you offer a better product than CourseTalk. Perhaps a calendar or multiple lists (interesting, will take, currently taking, finished -- you get the idea).
