Came here to say the same, they never went away. The problem with faith healing though is that the person who needs the healing takes it as a test of their faith. My grandfather had stage 4 cancer and Parkinson's and was taken in by one of these charlatans. He stopped taking his meds and the worst part was my family encouraged him. I was the only naysayer, but I was also the primary caretaker. They didn't have to take care of the fallout from him not taking his meds, I did. Now mind you I was already bit of a black sheep in my family because I was the only atheist, therefore my family was already predisposed to ignoring my advice when it came to anything prayer or faith healing related. He fell about a week after he stopped taking his meds, broke his ribs had a hard time breathing and decided to go to hospice rather than be intubated while his ribs healed. He died a few days later. I blame my family for encouraging him to go to that stupid church. Its been three years, I still refuse to talk to my dad and my uncle.
I learned there is a thing called DIP, or Drug Induced Psychosis. I stopped smoking because of DIP. All my friends seemed evaporate in weeks like a puff of smoke. Quitting pot was probably one of the most depressing times of my life.
But they got caught, they retracted, the system works. It's not a perfect system, in a perfect system people wouldn't be incentivized to publish publish publish or be damned to the back waters. The institution is broken, but the safety nets work.
I work at truckstop.com and I came up with a way of managing feature flags that isn't madness. First I used the feature flags in conjunction with module federation. Then I create 3 flags per product, alpha, beta, rc. They looks something like this: mfe-load-search-alpha. The flags are managed by split.io and then tied to a federated endpoint deployment. Which flag gets loaded is determined by a router factory that selects the route with the correct federated endpoint based on the splits. That effectively allows me to decouple a deployment from a release.
Science operates on a system of checks and balances, not a free speech model. If your paper can't pass peer review then your paper is what is clinically referred to as bullshit. Now there are people who bypass the system of checks and balances by publishing on pay to play journals but scientist came up with a solution to that too, Impact Factor. They took all the journals and rated them by how much of the content that they publish has an high impact on science and how much of it is bullshit. If you can't get your paper to publish in a journal with an impact factor higher than say 3.5 then you're probably bullshit.
I have yet to hear a cogent answer as to why this is a problem. I see so many alarmist articles that talk about this being the lead up to some sort of financial armageddon but are short on why or how. Can anyone please explain that to me?
Millennial here that grew up in that exact same situation. I eventually ran away from home @ 16 and moved in with my uncle. I don't talk to my dad except on major holidays. I expect him to die alone and frankly thats none of my fucking business.
I like the "John Doe" from the Panama Papers. Remained anonymous, spread his message, didn't add anything unnecessary and remained out of public spectacle.
The era of alternative facts were kind of started with Julian Assange. The video "Collateral Murder" was heavily edited by Mr. Assange. It was damning enough without his edits, he didn't need to add his personal soundtrack and audio edits to the video. How Mr. Assange has become the poster boy of "leakers against the government" with his outrageous egotistical and dickish behavior is beyond me. Leakers should give "the facts" and "the truth" untarnished and free of modification.
I've been saying this for almost 15 years now. Industries like Software Development need to abandon college and return to the guild system. Start as an apprentice, move to journeyman, become a master, and eventually an artisan. All the time training your juniors. I'm not saying there is no place for college but it needs to relegated to the jobs that need it, doctors, lawyers, etc.
There's only one way to fix this folks. We need to abolish the FDIC and use the money saved to give a tax cut to the rich. The rich then trickle down onto the failing banks and their depositors to resolve this problem.
Isn't you company responsible to insure its own assets above the FDIC deposit limit? I guess personal responsibility only applies to poor people not corporations.
I probably would have killed myself if not for antidepressants. I cared for my elderly grandparents through the end of their life. During that time I saw a therapist to talk about my depression that kept getting worse as I slowly watched them die. I kept asking her to prescribe something for me but she said she didn't have the ability to write a prescription. What she didn't tell me and what I didn't learn until my third call to the suicide hotline is I could just ask my primary care physician. I thought I needed a therapist to sign off on it but it wasn't needed at all. I ended up quitting her practice for not bothering to tell me I could just ask my doctor for a prescription we ended up having a fight because she argued that I didn't need them. Meanwhile 3 weeks after I got them I was no longer suicidal. Anecdotally, people say antidepressants are over-prescribed but I've been on that prescription now for 8 years, the last of my grandparents passed two years ago. It is my personal opinion that talk therapy is what is over-prescribed because it didn't do a fucking thing for me while a $7 dollar a month prescription solved in a month. Don't let people tell you what you should do to stay sane, that's between you and your doctor.
I've got a recumbent bike that I added electric to. I had to redo the setup though because I initially built it with a hub motor which made hill climbing still be a bit of a bitch so I rebuilt it with a middrive motor.
I think I got it early to mid February 2020 when testing wasn't widely available. There wasn't a lot of news about COVID at the time and I caught something that wasn't the flu (tested negative) and hit me like a ton of bricks. I was having a hard time breathing, even when taking Mucinex. It wasn't bad enough to go to the hospital so I stuck it out at home. I managed the other symptoms well with Tylenol and Advil. I'm personally convinced that I caught it way earlier than most but its purely anecdotal.
