stevofolife··on China is flooding Taiwan with disinformation
What a fluffy statement withstanding like a thin paper tower.
stevofolife··on Rhythm 0
So then what’s the point of conducting this experiment when we already know the expected behaviour?

My point is, most folks think the expected behaviour was the unexpected behaviour. I think it’s the other way around.

stevofolife··on Rhythm 0
Agree. People use upvote to like or agree a comment. A down vote inversely function the same way. He thinks he is view so special and deserves no downvotes at all. What a character.

I thought her real test would be that even if she put any sort of weapons on the table, no one would use it/them on her. That’s what made the experiment/art interesting.
stevofolife··on Ghostfolio: Open-source wealth management software
Can someone not just make a wealth management spreadsheet in Excel? If anyone has a good one, can you share or sell to me?
stevofolife··on ChatGPT user sessions are down 29% since May
Having country-level breakdowns of user sessions can easily help determine if the decrease is due to school seasons ;)
stevofolife··on How to find time to learn after work (2017)
I'm surprised to see that you think there is a clear dichotomy between what can only happen at school and at home when it comes to learning.

You'd be even more surprised to learn that learning can happen anywhere, anytime and from anyone in any kind of form.

Helping kids at home with school work as a parent is not only accessible to rich families. You should help your kids when they really need it regardless of your socioeconomic background.

Now if you're talking about personalized/paid tutors outside of school, then yes - it's much more accessible to richer families but there is fundamentally nothing wrong that. What you decide to do with your kids outside of school is your choice.

"Work on my stuff until 5-6PM". Nice. Slim chance for me.
stevofolife··on Uncle Sam accuses SpaceX of not considering asylees and refugees for employment
All kinds of spies in all kinds of projects existed in American history. SpaceX being a relatively new organization and the roles they hire are both not immune to this. For example, “Klaus Emil Julius Fuchs (29 December 1911 – 28 January 1988) was a German theoretical physicist and atomic spy who supplied information from the American, British and Canadian Manhattan Project to the Soviet Union during and shortly after World War II.” from Wikipedia.
stevofolife··on Note-taking apps are designed for storage, not insight – can AI change that?
Taking notes involves writing, which compels you to structure your thoughts. Centralizing your writing in one place provides ample opportunities for AI/LLM enhancements, like better search, recall, suggestions, etc.
stevofolife··on Code Llama, a state-of-the-art large language model for coding
Also curious about this. There must be a better way to scrape using LLM.
stevofolife··on Hugging Face raises $235M from investors including Salesforce and Nvidia
Welcome to VC 101:

1) Grow 2) They don't. It's not a loan. VC world doesn't operate on loans. You go to the bank for that.

stevofolife··on Hugging Face raises $235M from investors including Salesforce and Nvidia
To be fair, I don't think there are clear dichotomies in this space. It really has the potential to be a feature or a product in either of the IaaS/PaaS/SaaS industry.

Just do a quick HN search on companies selling AI/ML, you will see what I mean.

stevofolife··on Hugging Face raises $235M from investors including Salesforce and Nvidia
Exactly and it would be extremely stupid for them not to take advantage of their current market position. It's a now or never situation IMO.
stevofolife··on Hugging Face raises $235M from investors including Salesforce and Nvidia
Someone who knows the VC industry should chime in on this - but AFAIK, companies don't get all their money from investor at once.
stevofolife··on Show HN: Workout.lol – a web app to easily create a workout routine
I just want to say I personally like the UX. Good job!
stevofolife··on Amid Twitter Chaos, Japanese Illustrators Flock to Weibo
For someone who is not caught up with the timeline of things, can someone explain why this is happening and was there anything recent that Elon or Twitter did that triggered this?
stevofolife··on How the great firewall of China detects and blocks fully encrypted traffic [pdf]
Thanks for this elaboration. Upon reading original comment, it felt very strange that she was "encamped" for using VPN to access her school homework. Immediately I knew there was more than it meets the eye.
stevofolife··on Gorilla-CLI: LLMs for CLI including K8s/AWS/GCP/Azure/sed and 1500 APIs
A calculator isn't going to give me error. I don't need to fact check it constantly.
stevofolife··on AI is just someone else's intelligence
I get your premise but your examples are so loose that it hinders your point. Just my honest feedback.
stevofolife··on Show HN: Google Analytics alternative with the most generous free tier
What CDP type platforms do you recommend? Adobe CDP?
stevofolife··on CFTC sues Binance and CEO Changpeng Zhao [pdf]
It does. The essential feature of capitalism is the motive to make a "profit". I'm explicitly saying capitalism is focused on "profit". Since you brought up communism, it has a different ideology which is not centered on "profit".

Does that make sense?

PS: Also I do not intend to debate capitalism vs. communism, I'm trying to convey the idea of "a society driven by profit".

stevofolife··on CFTC sues Binance and CEO Changpeng Zhao [pdf]
100% agree. At least lack of integrity will never prevail. Active regulation with fairness is increasingly more important.
stevofolife··on CFTC sues Binance and CEO Changpeng Zhao [pdf]
What a great anecdote.

I'm sad to say this - but most capitalism operates like this more or less, and capitalism runs the world. There is not enough integrity.

stevofolife··on Could we make the web more immersive using a simple optical illusion?
Aside from the skepticality of the proposed product & business idea, on the technical side there is tremendous value from accessible, robust and portable eye tracking. During my undergrad I was fortunate enough to work at a neuroscience lab where we built a 3D Unity game interfaced with a joystick, ECoG, and eye tracker to study attention and learning. If nothing has changed, Tobii is still the global leader in eye tracking hardware [1]. They have a wide ranging of products to choose from depending on your budget.

stevofolife··on Why Python keeps growing, explained
Genuinely curious, why do you need Rust?
stevofolife··on Why Python keeps growing, explained
Python code can be production code. There are many people and companies shipping Python production code and generating substantial value.
stevofolife··on Show HN: IngestAI – NoCode ChatGPT-bot creator from your knowledge base in Slack
Most startups are clueless and ignorant about data governance.
stevofolife··on Prompt Engineering Guide: Guides, papers, and resources for prompt engineering
On a relevant note, does anyone know any good prompt guides for vision models like Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, or Dall-E?
stevofolife··on Running large language models like ChatGPT on a single GPU
Out of curiosity, why aren't we crowd sourcing distributed training of LLMs where anyone can join by bringing their hardware or data? Moreover find a way to incorporate this into a blockchain so there is full transparency but also add in differential privacy to protect every participant.

Am I being too crazy here?
