stevev··on Mac mini will be made at a new facility in Houston
Nothing against American ingenuity, but when situations like this occur, quality often declines for a time. The process may be replicated from its original source, but the key difference lies in the workers’ experience—something the Chinese have already mastered.
stevev··on The React Foundation
It’s natural for Vercel to have a strong influence on the project. That’s what happens when a framework grows large and fragmented without a defined board, group, or leadership focused on both short- and long-term goals. At least now, with the foundation in place, there are additional voices to help guide the project rather than letting it move entirely in line with Vercel’s direction.
stevev··on A competitor crippled a $23.5M bootcamp by becoming a Reddit moderator
No doubt the industry suffered due to a market downturn, but your continuous posts and attacks worsened the situation for that company. Based on your Reddit activity, it appears to have been driven by a personal vendetta. If they pursue a defamation case, the evidence could strongly work against you. The overwhelming proof he presented of your actions toward the company would be difficult to defend. I honestly can’t understand why anyone would risk their own reputation—and that of their family—for dishonest gain. Most people are civil in such cases, but not everyone is if they conclude that evil was done. Scary situation to be in.
stevev··on What caused the 'baby boom'? What would it take to have another?
Increase dependent rate, suspend income tax and property tax.
stevev··on OpenAI dropped the price of o3 by 80%
It was only a matter of time considering Deepseek R1’s recent release. OpenAI’s competitor is an open-source product that offers similar quality at a tenth of the cost. Now they’re just trying to prevent customers from leaving.
stevev··on Eleven v3
It’s still too expensive. Their voices are very similar to Disney voices in quality; not surprising since they recently worked with them.

With such a potential backing, their margins are probably going to actors voices and rights; thus why it’s expensive.

Chatterbox an open source free version is very close. Hume ai is a close second and much more affordable. OpenAI tts is also 10x cheaper.

stevev··on A critical look at MCP
One major obstacle to grasping high-level abstractions and their implementations lies in poorly designed systems or language limitations. At this stage, any human-produced effort—be it documentation, explanations, or naming—should be reviewed by AI. Language models often excel at crafting clearer analogies and selecting more meaningful or intuitive naming conventions than we do. In short, let LLMs handle the documentation.

stevev··on Why Ruby on Rails still matters
I love Ruby. However, based on my readings, Rust, rocket, seems like a compelling choice due to its true parallel processing capabilities, strong typing, and impressive speed. Perhaps the author has yet to explore other technologies outside of Rails.
stevev··on A woman made her AI voice clone say "arse." Then she got banned
Big tech is working on a few models that should beat ElevenLabs in terms of pricing and quality. Eventually Deepseek will opensource theirs and cause ElevenLabs to be sold to Disney to stay relevant or something.
stevev··on Northeastern's redesign of the CS curriculum
I’m wondering if neighboring competitor schools who offer python classes are the reason for the change since more students would actually consider attending a different school due to having a stronger post experience and skills gained.
stevev··on Scientists claim they've found the cause mystery colon cancers in young people
‘There is no clear cut one thing, I think it is multi-factorial and there are other aspects,’

The title contradicts the answer, which is also vague and lacks specificity. Considering the mass list of advertisements on the page, it’s AI generated for $$$; thus the baity title, imo.

stevev··on React 19
Using both I think it comes down to personal preferences. One learns to appreciate their approaches to the complexity of FE dev. I do think ultimately it comes down to support , tooling and job opportunities. I was an advocate for Vue and now unfortunately I recommend React. Native mobile development is too important to disregard.
stevev··on React 19
Nice opinion. I started with Vue2/3 and now I’m learning react. Vue is designed better but react is further in development and more widely supported. Native mobile performance was the deal breaker. Ultimately you’ll find it easier to get a job using react vs vue.
stevev··on Trump wins presidency for second time
The left and the Democrats has become so far left and radical that their party didn’t resonate with everyday Americans for the past several years.
stevev··on Svelte 5 Released
I love Vue. Svelte is great! Unfortunately nothing beats react especially if one plans to develop for mobile. Despite how ugly the nuances in react are compared to those two, it’s still more mature making the other two trying to catch up and feel outdated in terms of features.
stevev··on iPhone 16 Pro Storage Expansion 128GB to 1TB [video]
I’ll just spend more for the storage lol.
stevev··on Tech jobs have dried up
The market was flooded with people. Companies are just trimming.
stevev··on Tech jobs have dried up
True. However the future may be different if the government doesn’t make changes. It’s easier and cheaper to now hire off-shore devs than Americans. There goes your pay raises and jobs or competitive salaries.

stevev··on Apple to wind down electric car effort after decadelong odyssey
I disagree. They had a leading edge with Siri but failed to invest in AI over a car. This move is just correcting a vital mistake in time past. They’re playing catch up.
stevev··on Pains of building your own billing system
For such systems that are commonly used by many, it’s best to open source it. Don’t reinvent the wheel.
