stepik777··on AI Model Fundamentally Cracks Captchas, Scientists Say
That's also how Google self-driving cars work. When they don't understand what they are seeing they just show pictures to some random person in Google captcha who solves it quickly.
stepik777··on AI Model Fundamentally Cracks Captchas, Scientists Say
There are captcha farms in Asia where hundreds of people are sitting in the building and solve captchas non-stop.

stepik777··on Killing the C++ Modules Technical Specification
> I still chuckle when randos make arguments like "C++ can't be parsed with an LALR parser"

I'm not an expert on parsers but I don't think LALR parser can evaluate constexpr C++ functions which is required for parsing C++.

E.g. in the following code, expression `A<f()>::a * u` will parse either as a variable declaration (int* u) or a multiplication (5 * 5) depending on the value returned by constexpr function f:

template<bool b> class A {};

template<> struct A<true> { typedef int a; };

template<> struct A<false> { static const int a = 5; };

constexpr bool f() { return true; }

const int u = 5;

int main() { A<f()>::a * u; }

stepik777··on Why did we choose Rust to develop TiKV?
And how would smart pointers help you if you need to return pointer to a member from a function? Does C++ protects you from moved from unique_ptr? Or from iterator invalidation? Or maybe you can safely use non-atomic shared pointer if you don't need to send it across threads?
stepik777··on PixelNN – Example-Based Image Synthesis
Except that it can put trees somewhere where there were no trees but something similar to them. Or it can put face of a more popular actor instead of an actual less popular one because it was more often present in the training dataset. No, thanks.
stepik777··on Zero-knowledge proofs, Zcash, and Ethereum
> the prover certainly didn't share the knowledge

What knowledge prover didn't share?

stepik777··on Consciousness Goes Deeper Than We Think
> How can I emperically determine if some object/animal/thing possesses consciousness?

There is currently no way. We don't even know if all humans possess it and what animals do. Maybe people who deny its existence just don't have it.

> How is "consciousness" not just a modern word for "soul", minus the afterlife stuff?

It's not modern vs old, it is more scientific vs religious.

I agree that most articles about consciousness feel like word games though.

stepik777··on Apple TV 4K brings home the magic of cinema with 4K and HDR
Strictly speaking you are right, but in practice HDR term is used to describe both HDR and wide color gamut.
stepik777··on Apple TV 4K brings home the magic of cinema with 4K and HDR
Not only that but it also allows to display colors outside of the sRGB (Rec. 709) gamut.

stepik777··on .NET Standard 2.0 is final
If you are at it maybe you can also rename it so that its name doesn't start with a point and you don't need to put points in the middle of the sentences.
stepik777··on Tesla Model 3 First Drive Review
There is a transmission. At least in Model S: 1-speed fixed gear (9.73:1).
stepik777··on Metaclasses: Thoughts on generative C++
Proponents of C++ for some reason think that C++ is the only fast language while all others are slow interpreted scripting languages.

stepik777··on BTC-e and its founder charged in 21-count indictment over hack of Mt. Gox
Russia mostly prefers to block websites instead of prosecuting their creators. E.g. btc-e.com (but not btc-e.nz) was blocked in Russia but they didn't care about its owners.
stepik777··on BTC-e and its founder charged in 21-count indictment over hack of Mt. Gox
If you want to exchange cryptocurrency for USD then sure, those other exchanges are better. But not everyone wants USD.
stepik777··on BTC-e and its founder charged in 21-count indictment over hack of Mt. Gox
They are boasting about how they caught the guy who robbed Mt. Gox but they just did the same - a lot of people just lost access to their money on BTC-e. They are not all criminals, BTC-e was a convenient way to exchange bitcoins to/from rubles and was used by many people in Russia who were interested in cryptocurrencies.
stepik777··on IPv6 Adoption
Off the top of my head:

* If you store IP addresses ensure that you can store IPv6 address if necessary.

* Rent servers only from IPv6 capable providers.

* When configuring DNS don't forget AAAA records.

* If you ban users by IP you might need to ban entire IPv6 subnets.

There is an official book which is very well written. I remember that I started to read it several years ago and was surprised that I actually can understand most of the things.

BTW there is a patent pool being formed by MPEG LA to license CRISPR. It seems to be similar to patent pools for video codecs.
