stefanos82··on Show HN: Musql, JIT-compiled SQL, up to 300x faster than SQLite, 1000x vs. Turso
> Result: musql. Pronounced "muscle."

You mean it's pronounced "muscal", like Mezcal, but with an "ah" LOL!

stefanos82··on At 19, founder raises $11M for Ghost, maker of a $3,499 computer for personal AI
I'm curious...isn't the name `ghost` an infringement between ghost, the app / CMS alternative to WordPress and this project?

https://ghost.org/

stefanos82··on 40 years of writing code. I didn't see the end coming
Professionally speaking, at least for me, it's not worth it anymore.

But personally? I won't stop using technology and I do my best to avoid AI as much as possible.

I like exercising my mind, to develop new ways of thinking and above all, cultivate critical thinking!

If there's no critical thinking, there's no creativity, no arts, no nothing!

stefanos82··on LinkedIn is a terrible quality website
It's slow because AI runs continuously behind the scenes tracking you non-stop, if you type, if you navigate, if you click somewhere, and so forth...I have the impression that every single end point belongs to different webservice, because if I refresh it, sometimes it fetches partial data, sometimes it won't pull anything at all, and at random times it works as expected.

In conclusion, LinkedIn is dead as we once knew it and has become a massive AI slop, a dating app believe it or not(!), and full of narcissists that have supposedly succeeded in life, trying to convince themselves with their own lies. PATHETIC!

stefanos82··on C3 0.8.4: The Last Keyword Renaming Before the Syntax Freeze
Ew...that looks so ugly! LOL!

How about `cast<int*>(myage)`?

stefanos82··on C3 0.8.4: The Last Keyword Renaming Before the Syntax Freeze
Yeah, I just came here to write "on the other hand though...what about types, such as `(int*)myage`?" and got irritated with myself lol!

I guess I can define my own way of casting with a macro, `castAs(int *, myage);` and that should work just fine.

stefanos82··on C3 0.8.4: The Last Keyword Renaming Before the Syntax Freeze
The only thing I would like to see changing is C-style type casting: `(int)myage`

...for some reason, I can't stand this syntax! I find it visually intrusive lol! But if we could allow something like `int(myage)`, it makes it clearer, to me at least.

stefanos82··on Stripe Withholding Balance of $100000
This Stripe behavior has become an epidemic these years...they have fully automated their infrastructure, especially now with AI and they false positively flag the wrong companies and then they complain that people label them as the "baddies".

I have wrote a public post on LinkedIn addressing this issue of yours and hopefully someone will get notified and help you out.

Now we wait...

Update: I'm in discussion with their Stripe Support department right now.

Update2: ..and now, we wait!

Final Update: They told me, if you have a LinkedIn account, go there and contact "Stripe" account and tell them your issue; "Stripe Support" account will contact you within 5 to 10 minutes and verify your business data so they can help you.

Good luck!

stefanos82··on Julian Assange Returns to X
Oh the oxymoron in this announcement...why X exactly if we are not allowed to view thread discussion for free and we are forced to create an X account to do so?
stefanos82··on PHP is Dead (and AI is to blame)
> Make it a compiled language with virtual machine similar to Java. The times of recursively creating PHP-files to serve PHP-files are dated (*cough Smarty). Compilation with checks and strict typing will increase the code quality fundamentally.

So...an evolution of Hack language by FaceBook / Meta? https://hacklang.org/

stefanos82··on Rui Ueyama: "We are rewriting the mold linker in Rust"
I'm curious to learn the reasoning behind this decision...yeah, I presume it's Rust's memory safety mechanism, but other than that, what other reasons are for switching from C++ to Rust?
stefanos82··on Ask HN: Dear LinkedIn, do you want to do business, yes or no?
UPDATE: After I posted here, within a couple of hours they sent me an email that "we have verified your information and removed the restriction from your account".

Coincidence? A very weird one!

Clarification: The account was locked for 2 days and as soon as I decided to write here about it TODAY, within 2-3 hours of posting here, they decided to sent an email out of the blue that they have reviewed my account, when I have attempted a request for a review via their helpdesk without any success; during the fill up form process it was redirecting me to other pages with plain data explaining to me what should I do with government ID verification process; that's all.

stefanos82··on Ask HN: Dear LinkedIn, do you want to do business, yes or no?
The whole situation is getting out of control; they have become completely useless using them nowadays. What's the point, really?
stefanos82··on Ask HN: Dear LinkedIn, do you want to do business, yes or no?
Yeah, I feel so stupid for it...I wish they could erase those data of mine permanently from their system. I need to find a way to ask this.
stefanos82··on Ask HN: Dear LinkedIn, do you want to do business, yes or no?
That's exactly what frustrated me the most!
stefanos82··on My software development workflow is AI now & it feels exhausting and soulless
Just use your browser's devtools to edit the link by replacing `old` to `www` and it should now work.

stefanos82··on How we made hit video game Prince of Persia
I have watched the creator explaining to us in great detail how he came up with so many tiny details that made it a perfect game for its time!

Just watch it yourself, you will be in awe!

stefanos82··on XS: A programming language. Anywhere, anytime, by anyone
Perl developers that depend on XS [1] for extending their code's behavior will have a "lovely" time with this lol!

Here's an example https://github.com/adriaandens/XSamples/blob/master/XSamples...

stefanos82··on How come LinkedIn uses 3.5 GB of RAM?
They are illegally collecting a number of data from your computer with background processes and there was a data leak from them a few days ago where they demonstrate with their hack what LinkedIn actually collects from its users.

Just watch this video [1] which explains the whole situation in great detail and you will understand.

stefanos82··on LinkedIn uses 65GB of RAM with 7 tabs opened
Before I deleted my account in November, I have reported to them a very severe form of memory leak that was caused by ad blocker(s).

When you disabled your ad blocker, things became normal...but the background services they run via websockets was just insane lol.

As soon as you re-enabled your ad blocker, the same original memory usage returned.

Another memory leakage can be found via their message app; the more characters you type after a while, the more memory it would devour! I just couldn't continue my discussion with an HR during discussion about arranging an interview; we had to switch to email as it led both of us to extreme frustration!

It just not worth the effort anymore...not to mention the HR scammers that compete between them who's going to get your info or what other data they can extract from you.

Just delete your account; it's not worth it anymore...whatever Microsoft touches, it kills it in no time.

stefanos82··on Updates to GitHub Copilot interaction data usage policy
Serious question: let's say I host my code on this platform which is proprietary and is for my various clients. Who can guarantee me that AI won't replicate it to competitors who decide to create something similar to my product?
stefanos82··on Is it still worth learning to code?
Professionally? I would avoid it. Personally? For hobby, 100% I would, but at my own pace.
stefanos82··on Searches for Learn Python up 150%
Coincidentally, that time range you just shared, I've noticed more and more Twitch streamers that deal with fintech and cryptos started automating their crypto trading with bots written in Python and AI / ML models, which they started right before Christmas holidays, between late November early December.

I guess they had plenty of time to do such things and some viewers of theirs got inspired and decided to teach themselves Python because it looks easy.

stefanos82··on Apple buys Israeli startup Q.ai
Why am I having a feeling that one of their reasons was so they can trademark "iQ", to match the iSomething "franchise", so to speak?
stefanos82··on Cloudflare acquires Astro
I hope they've got rewarded astro...nomically well lol!

My apologies friends, I could not resist!

Congrats Astro team!

stefanos82··on Write once, run anywhere: The promise C couldn't keep
Cosmopolitan C library would like to have a word with you then https://github.com/jart/cosmopolitan
stefanos82··on Why is Apache still popular even as Nginx has proven its mettle on performance?
The only logical explanation I can think of based on my personal experience is that shared hosting services offer Apache web server by default so they can host WordPress websites which by the way, based on w3techs.com, 43.1% of all websites are WordPress.

You may ask why Apache then? Well, because when a user modify some settings via dashboard, they change in .htaccess which does not expect a web server restart or super user permissions like you need with NGINX, for example.

Now you know why WordPress websites are getting hacked easier than other CMS-es...because they can apply changes in .htaccess on the fly, whereas with other web servers, you need root permissions, thus the extra layer of security.

Does TypeScript emit machine code? OCaml gives you this option, if you need it.
