steedsofwar··on What are your biggest career regrets?
Turn it around and use your situation as a motivator. It's hard, but it's worth it. I'm sure you want the best for your family and unborn child, so what better way than to start your own business. The longer you put it off the more you'll regret it later in life.

steedsofwar··on Using NYC Taxi Data to Identify Muslim Taxi Drivers
It's not that it's a taboo, it's the fact they break the persons Wudo (abulution to gain ritual purity). What this means practically is you would need to change your clothes and perform abulution if you wanted to pray; which you do, five times a day. Now day to day working life, this can be difficult, finding a toilet/mosque etc. So it's easier to stay clear of dogs. Muslims don't hate dogs per se (obviously there will be culture bias), or any other animal. We are told to respect all living beings including trees. -- Source - I'm a muslim, though there's probably a lot i've missed, and not an expert.
steedsofwar··on Ask HN: My son wants to make side money programming
If it's solely for the purpose of making money (as opposed to learning for the challenge/curiosity) then do some research: freelancer.com, odesk etc etc. I'd check which technologies are in demand and go from there. It's also important to play to your strengths, for instance i find web development very finiky, i tend to excel in more meaty things like transaction processing. hth
steedsofwar··on Apple and IBM Deliver First Wave of IBM MobileFirst for iOS Apps
I use to freelance for a large investment bank. They had one large open source initiative, that had two offerings: one that was completely open source, and less powerful and the second enterprise class and highly customised for there needs.

When i left they started a new project, making iOs apps, that would make use of employees phones, rather than dish out expensive (basically hired the phones) blackberries. Again this was customised, security and restrictions and what not.

Hey there, a few points:

1. If you're going to claim it's easier than others, give examples. I've had to work with a few, mule, spring integration, and it's a pain to wade through tons of docs.

2. Getting started page: this is teeny http://community.warewolf.io/uploaded/image/9453/35540/10280... i can't read that at all.

I'd like to see examples, how can i implement aggregation, filter, resequence, blah blah. This is where i'd like to see comparisons with other esbs. Give you a chance to explain "easiest service bus .."

My parents place had a recent mice infestation. Which funnily enough happened because my neighbours decided to renovate their attic. So they jumped that ship and headed for my parents shores. My little sister who lived their at the time, had the great idea of feeding the neighbours/stray cats, with milk and other goodies. After a few days the mice were no longer harrassing my parents.

I like the name madrassa. It stands out, and as someone pointed out means school in Arabic.

I like it! Not so hot on the gifs, but it's short and sweet.

Great, thanks for this!

"The name got me thinking about App discovery however."

This is exactly what came to my mind, as i added more terms to the search, to whittle down the results.

Commented code, yuk.
steedsofwar··on Ask HN: Programmers, what are your min requirements? What is your utopia?
A few things actually. I only do my day job to pay for my lifestyle and hobbies. I would be happy to take a pay cut if it meant i could do something of significance. For me that is something that would have a positive impact in others lives as cliche as that sounds. It makes me get up in the morning, and makes my body tingle. For instance a recent ted talk on drones aiding aid/medicine drops to remote places off the world. That just excites me! Or i would love to work on games, which is my side project, that my day job pays for.

In terms of physical env, i don't care much. As long as i'm comfortable and i can do my work. Preferably i'd like to work at home, with little to no interaction with anyone. Working in the IT/Banking industry for over 14 years, has made be cynical on human interaction.

My friend and i have been working on this for 18 months, contending with family and our day to day job, it's been a bit of struggle to finish it. Just released a week or two ago, still working on polishing the website (outsourced but that was a disaster), and video. Once that's done we're going to do marketing a litte more aggressively. I'm currerntly working on an android port.

steedsofwar··on Ask HN: How to find companies hiring in London
I'm surprised no one has mentioned www.jobserve.co.uk. I have found all my jobs on there; you will find most of the agencies advertising there. Restrict your search to London, and you're good to go. It's another matter if the agencies don't call based on your cv
steedsofwar··on Packetbeat: Open-source application monitoring
This looks interesting. I'm actually looking forward to trying this on a game server i'm working on at the moment. Thanks for making this freely available!
steedsofwar··on Ask HN: Walls are closing in, I will work under market
Have you tried freelancer or rentacoder. I recently hired someone on freelancer to do some work for me. It's the first time i'm using it, but so far so good.
