I'm Stavros. If you need to contact me, my email is stavros at stavros dot io. If you email me, mention "aubergine" in the subject so I know it's not spam. Also, LLM-written emails get marked as spam.

My website, where I write about the projects I work on, is https://www.stavros.io.

I'm also @stavros on Twitter.

stavros··on Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting
No, mine stays disabled and there's no way to enable it. It's just a label that says "disabled". Not sure why, maybe some sort of company wide profile?
stavros··on Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting
If it didn't do anything, they wouldn't keep re-enabling it.

What?

Sure, jailbroken Kindles run Linux.

People say this, but I've never seen it. AI has been very consistent in its rewards for me.

I don't understand what's wrong with tools saying "I". I just don't mind it at all, even if Finder did say "do you want me to delete this?".
stavros··on Copyright does more harm than good and should be abolished
And now the money scale has tipped towards the people who are inconvenienced by copyright.

What about the back light? Are they otherwise identical?

I've been seeing the Xteink a lot lately. Should I get an X3 or an X4? I don't really know why I want it, but I have an eInk addiction, so I just need it.
stavros··on My Feed, My Way
This has always been my issue with these causes that claim to promote equality. If your way of promoting equality and inclusion excludes a whole gender, you're doing something wrong.
stavros··on Can AI design circuit boards yet?
Excellent, thank you! I'm definitely adding an LLM review/assembly step then!

stavros··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I was wondering if anyone used it. I might update it for the next one if people like it.

Yes.

You're welcome, it's great!

I'd like the AI to do the schematic for me, as I always worry I've missed some decoupling capacitor or something. I can do the routing myself (I like routing). It would also be good if the AI could fill in all the LCSC identifiers for assembly. Is that doable nowadays?
stavros··on Portal by Spotify cut my Claude Code token usage by 90%
Yeah but that's by design for the free version, it's not a bug.

As promised:

Just replace x.com with twit.0r.cx.

I mean, I was just thinking of writing one in a few lines, so there will be one in a few minutes.
stavros··on Ubisoft's FOR HONOR will block SteamOS / Linux players starting September 10
Yeah :( I was really sure I'd buy it immediately, but then it ended up being around $500 more than I thought, and passed :/ Such a shame.
stavros··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2026)
I've created a small page to help you navigate this thread better, because the sites linked above weren't categorizing the jobs well enough:

https://hnhiring.stavros.io

For example, my page lets you search for "remote - unrestricted" to get jobs that allow remote everywhere.

I think the original question (and my answer) were more about jj vs git than about you guys, but I may have read it wrong.

If you ask "apart from better UX, what's the advantage of this thing?", you might as well ask "why would I buy an iPhone when my Nokia can do more things?".

I used both Bazzite and Debian, and, while the games do "just work", the problem with Bazzite was that the peripherals were fiddly. Getting the Xbox controllers to work needed some fiddling every time, streaming games from the desktop was hit and miss, and a few other small things like that.

It's still amazing how well gaming on Linux works, but the only reason why I wanted a Steam machine is becasue when a few friends are over, I don't want to spend twenty minutes fiddling with controllers, it kills the mood. I want to turn it on and game immediately.
