statenjason··on The future of Fiber
Really excited if they offer service between SLC and Provo
statenjason··on Why You Should Never Use MongoDB
We use it for event storage in the event sourced parts of our app.

For the rest of our data, we're currently migrating off of Mongo to Postgres due to an experience similar to the OP's.

statenjason··on The Monster Truck Madness 2 site is unchanged from 1998
Sound still works
statenjason··on The 11% for IE11 challenge
probably calculated it with javascript
statenjason··on Unofficial Github Cards
It's in the repo description: http://lab.lepture.com/github-cards/
statenjason··on Show HN: Echelon – A safe way to manage your company’s Twitter accounts
Or an outbox that holds tweets for a time threshold or until approved by a second user. Both could help prevent issues from one employee.
statenjason··on Docker 0.5: external volumes, advanced networking, self-hosted registry
Check out the docker-registry[1] repo.

statenjason··on Plug: the brain of your devices
Reminds me of the PogoPlug[1]. I came across it when buying a SheevaPlug, the device it was originally built on.

statenjason··on Salt: Like Puppet, Except It Doesn’t Suck
I started with cdist, but ansible won me over. I bootstrap ansible-pull using cloudinit. It's been an excellent experience so far.
statenjason··on Firefox Will Soon Block Third-Party Cookies
No extension necessary. Just open chrome://settings/content and check the "block third party cookies" option. Anytime you navigate to a page with blocked 3rd party cookies, a cookie with an X will show in the address bar. Clicking it will let you add an exception.
statenjason··on ZenPen
Image loading events can trigger JS without interaction.

statenjason··on Firefox OS challenges the closed mobile ecosystems
Looking at the source[1] of the blog. It appears to be built with Jekyll[2].

statenjason··on Experimental Page Layout Inspired By Flipboard
Interesting layout. It's not a pleasant experience with a trackpad though.
statenjason··on A free real-time Intro to Clojure webcast today at 10a PT/1p ET
I'm running Arch and received the same message. Ran the test video and it seems fine to me. Likely what they're saying is that they don't promise compatibility with Linux.
statenjason··on RequireJS 2.0 draft
I agree. I've had to wrap non-amd libs far too many times.

I wonder how this will work when optimized.

statenjason··on Ctrl-P for Vim: Pure Vimscript Command-T
You need to hit F5 to refresh the cache.
statenjason··on How I Tricked Myself Into Being Awesome
Specific to open source on Github, but I've encountered this before:

statenjason··on Hacker News Redesign
The larger comment links sell it for me. I use a touchpad, and opening comments is painful to do with such small font and minimal margins.
statenjason··on Google Drive detailed: 5 GB of free space, launching next week
ES File Explorer will let you download a folder from Dropbox.
statenjason··on Google Begins Testing Its Augmented Reality Glasses
Where have you found fair weather for 2 years?
statenjason··on Poll: What is your primary operating system
Arch Linux with Awesome Window Manager is my preferred setup. I appreciate that each screen has its own virtual desktops.
statenjason··on Pow.js - Algorithmic sunburst generator via CSS, canvas and jQuery.
It does more than just selecting an element. It also finds an inner element to do the burst from, grabs OuterWidth, and sets css.

While it is possible to do these without jQuery, you could say that about any jQ plugin.

statenjason··on Airscape - Astounding rotating HTML5 platform game
Same issue on Chromium. I checked the console:

Application Cache Error event: Cache creation was blocked by the content policy
  c2runtime.js:228 Uncaught Error: QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR: DOM Exception 22
statenjason··on WebHooks and WebSockets in ASP.NET
Cohort 15 ;)

A couple of features:

- Simple API that requires no inheritance.

- Mono is a first class citizen in development.

- Reasonably RFC compliant[1].

- Proof of concept adapter for SignalR[2].

statenjason··on WebHooks and WebSockets in ASP.NET
[shamelessplug]

If you're in need of a WebSocket library that works on .NET 4.0 or Mono, there is Fleck[1].

statenjason··on Why do self-respecting hackers use Gmail & Co?
I purchased a SheevaPlug[1] a couple years ago. It's a plug sized ARM server consuming 5W max. It's been great for a low-power, always-on debian server. For the lazy or not capable user, there is the Pogo Plug[2], which was prototyped using the Sheeva. You plug in ethernet and a usb hard drive, and it gives you access from the PogoPlug site.

statenjason··on Zappos.com customer database compromised
I don't seem to be receiving the password reset email. I do use an email with a plus ("foo+bar@example.com") if that has any effect.
statenjason··on How do you track and decide what topics you want to spend time learning?
I actually learned most of my Vim foundations using ViEmu[1] for Visual Studio. While some things are missing, it does an impressive job of emulating Vim and not stepping all over VS and R# (aside from Ctrl-R key bindings).

I used the viemu cheat sheet lessons[2] for the learning process. As I became comfortable with the commands in each, I moved on to the next lesson.

statenjason··on You are the nth person alive on earth
Are you sure you used European style dd/mm/yyyy? I made that mistake the first time.
statenjason··on Arch Linux – "It is what you make it"
ArchWiki has been among the most helpful guides in me getting an understanding of Linux. Also, seeing the latest AUR discussions about a package when pulling it down has been a lifesaver a few times.
