stat··on Moving money internationally
Imagine if every merchant came up with their own currency and forced you to pay them in it only. Wouldn't a global currency be a lot more efficient & frictionless?

I watched this 10 times in a row. It gave me shivers every time...
stat··on Saturated fats no longer the true enemy, experts say
I am not satisfied classifying the extremely broad category of "processed foods" as "bad". Technically olive oil is a processed food, so is milk and frozen meat. What about Soylent? It's very much a processed food but is probably much healthier than the typical processed foods out there.

I reformatted the story for better readability and included audio, read by Henry Goodman: https://googledrive.com/host/0B2j3XwTC5tA6dUg5QXBTQVNtV2c/Th...
stat··on Jeff Atwood On Parenthood
"We understand the complexities of having a child and we also understand how selfish we currently are." How is not having a child selfish? I believe that having children is way more selfish - there's already 6 billions mouths feed and it's just adding another one.

stat··on Romantic Love: The problem with Western cultures
We have evolved the ability to pursue goals that are more fulfilling than simply "Passing on the genes". That's why, for one thing, we have condoms. People can consciously decide whether to have children or not, and I believe most educated people agree that this is a good thing. There is no reason why we should allow evolution (which has zero foresight) to dictate what's good for us.
stat··on Romantic Love: The problem with Western cultures
I strongly agree. Limerance has never been a "great feeling" for me, especially because it pushes one to take important decisions that they would have never taken otherwise. What's best for your genes is not necessarily what's best for you.
stat··on Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us
Thank you for posting this! I went on his youtube channel to see what it's all about and I ended up watching the first 7 lessons in Biology... and I had 3 or 4 "gotchas" that I never got in school... man this is fun. I'm sure to continue watching this stuff. I want to watch it all!

If what he says is true, then that means Diaspora will fail, because of the huge amount of funding they got.
stat··on The Death of Files
I strongly agree. The concept of file is extremely popular because it is intuitive. Sometimes designers get carried away in trying to simplify an interface that doesn't need any simplifying. For some simplistic devices like a DVD player or a game console, it might make sense to hide the filesystem because what the user will be doing is predetermined by the designer (console = play game. DVD = watch movie). But for general purpose computers, it makes no sense to hide such a powerful feature.
