starsep··on Parking lots as economic drains
What is your city? What anti-car policies were implemented? Did city offer viable altenatives to driving?
starsep··on Oh My Zsh adds bloat
Oh My Zsh adds bloat but sets sensible default settings compared to vanilla zsh. I tried using zsh without OMZ and I realized how many things are in OMZ which I took for granted, especially keybindings.

~150ms with minimal setup is good enough for me, although I would prefer <50ms.

starsep··on I Lost Faith in Kagi
I am Kagi subscriber because I think their search is great. I would like them to focus on it.

I don't care about closed-sourced browser nor their AI offering

starsep··on Show HN: Flox 1.0 – Open-source dev env as code with Nix
Very cool. I will try it out as replacement of nix profile.

flox install/show/search in $HOME looks like way better UX

starsep··on OpenStreetMap but as terminal user interface (TUI) program
At the moment it's unreadable. Maybe using kitty protocol would allow for image better quality?
starsep··on Signal Introduces Stories
I don't like stories but at least there is a way to opt-out. Many people do like them and expected them so it's understandable move
starsep··on 3D OpenStreetMap
Only if there is no additional information. Most buildings have polygon on ground level and height/number of levels. It's possible to make more complex shapes
starsep··on Mapping every QMS ad billboard in Sydney with OpenStreetMap
Billboards in the middle of a sidewalk? That's crazy
starsep··on Where else in London are there pylons?
There are many solar plants not mapped due to lack of high quality, up-to-date aerial/satellite imagery, or volunteers. Germany is country mapped best, not necessarily having significant share of solar.
starsep··on Show HN: Offline voice messages transcription in Signal Desktop
Great feature. Good luck with making it production ready and merging it upstream if you intend to do that :)
starsep··on Why is there a TikTok tracking pixel on UberEats what is this crap?
Ads themselves might be fine to you (I disagree). Breaking privacy laws, spying on users, and dark patterns to trick user into "consent" is not.
starsep··on Ask HN: Firefox connection problems after enabling DoH?
It was re-enabled for me as well. browser.crashReports.unsubmittedCheck.autoSubmit2 and datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled
starsep··on In 1930 the Indiana Bell building was rotated 90°
In Warsaw, Poland Lubomirski Palace has been rotated using tracks in 1970.

starsep··on Google removes Pirate Bay domains from search results citing Dutch court order
Startpage is a Google proxy. The Pirate Bay is filtered out there as well.
starsep··on Wikidata
It's also used in OpenStreetMap - "Wikipedia for maps", referenced a lot lately on HN.

starsep··on OrganicMaps is Android and iOS offline maps for travel without trackers or ads
I stopped using GMaps and I still don't think they are worthless. Some companies buy fake reviews, some use shady techniques such as free drink/appetizer for a review. In my experience so far those are exceptions, not standard. I think corelation between quality and GMaps average review score is quite high - at least for restaurants.
starsep··on StreetComplete: Easy to use editor of OpenStreetMap data
Great app :). I recommend it to my friends to introduce them to OpenStreetMap. Ease of use, good UX/UI is a game changer.

Those things matter a lot but most OSM Editors/Maps suck in this area. Usually it's caused by a design made by developers for other superusers.

starsep··on Organicmaps: Android and iOS offline maps app for travelers, tourists, hikers
I'm using it since their beta release in Google Play (in March?). It works very well for me, I like it much more than OSMAnd (which is slow and too complicated). I used MAPS.ME for a while but sponsored POIs, banking ads, tracking etc. was too much for me. Fortunately it's all gone in Organic Maps fork :)
starsep··on Getting High-Speed Rail Wrong
OpenRailwayMap[0] is useful to see where High-Speed Rail has been built - choose Max speeds map style. It uses data from OpenStreetMap[1] - free (as in freedom) map edited by community in a Wikipedia fashion.

starsep··on Investigating why McDonald's ice cream machines are often broken [video]
I also have never seen nor heard of a broken McD ice cream machine. I am also from Europe, Poland specifically.
