staplers··on DraftKings is using AI to behaviorally target chronic gamblers

The real problem is how we've let these companies infiltrate so much of our society so fast
- Glass stiegel repealed - Automatic weapons ban lifted - Sports gambling ban lifted - Many more

All the hard work of the people who suffered and fought to achieve this wisdom only for it to be abandoned.

Generations making the same mistakes over and over even with boundless knowledge at our fingertips. Really showcases how important education and especially reverence for education is.

staplers··on UK military jamming other nations' satellites to defend itself, BBC told
I think they are pointing out it's an oxymoron. There's nothing to secure if the service itself is insecure and leaking..
staplers··on New Worlds: We are living in the future of J.G. Ballard or William Gibson
They had to make it cool to make it palatable and not a slog for entertainment purposes. Without that it's just a depressing read of reality.
staplers··on Protopia
It saddens me that these 2 simple things would go so far to fix so many problems. Knowing they are so far out of reach in current reality
staplers··on No one can afford to make Myst games anymore

i have yet to bump into a story where an actually great game goes undiscovered.
By the very nature of it, you wouldn't...
staplers··on Discovery Loop
Yea with my new Tree 2. Pre-order and VC funding accepted now.
staplers··on Iceberg Collapses and Flips over in Ilulissat, Greenland (July 25, 2026) [video]
All its mass is already on the water so it's not displacing anything. It probably made some splashes but it seems like a fairly round object rotating rather than smashing into anything
staplers··on Poles of Inaccessibility in the San Gabriel Mountains
I've been to this area and being close to a road does not mean human contact. I drove on that road for nine hours and saw a handful of people/buildings.

"Towns" on a map might literally be a single home up there. It's as remote as can be even alongside utility roads.

  3. Develop Carbon Sequestration Methods
If only we could invent a solar-powered, self-replicating, carbon-stacking, habitat-building machine..
staplers··on Show HN: What should the GUI for AI agents look like?
I think this highlights most how separated actual os' are from practical ai today (even while terminal apps live in them). If apple owned CC I could do this right in the macos gui. Instead apple ai is half baked and claude code gui is half baked.

It's similar to needing aol to get online in the 90s/00s. Eventually this will become built in and become invisible in a sense.

I'm glad someone is working on this because it's been annoying having to sacrifice process to gain capability.

staplers··on Vancouver PD website features Quick Escape button that wipes itself from history
That and they dont want butt dialing 911 to be easy
staplers··on LAPD lets contract with surveillance giant Flock expire
It's not "don't tread on us"
staplers··on LAPD lets contract with surveillance giant Flock expire

do not have the money to invest in developing a camera system that is sovereignly owned by the city
That would render the city liable for handling the data which is already politically volatile. In America, if it's a commercial entity doing it then there is no liability and you can just fold the company if something bad happens.
staplers··on Supersonic flight returning to US after half-century ban
Nimbyism is generally against a public good (low income housing, powerlines, etc)but there is nothing public or good about this.

Calling this nimbyism is billionaire psyop lol

staplers··on What we call "age verification" is actually mass surveillance
Slavery isn't a single mechanism, rather a system of many things that keep it all running smoothly
staplers··on What we call "age verification" is actually mass surveillance
Unfortunately not when convincing a large populace..

staplers··on xAI is looking more like a datacentre REIT than a frontier lab

those would imply inflation was nearly 100% between the end of GFC and before the pandemic
... yes? There's many things I'm paying double for at this point from 10-20 years ago. Maybe you haven't noticed?

Streaming services, diapers, energy, etc. the list is long if you look deep enough

staplers··on xAI is looking more like a datacentre REIT than a frontier lab
That's done quietly behind the scenes so leaders can blame something else for inflation.

See "M2SL" or "TOTBKCR" on tradingview if you want to see inflation live.

staplers··on American capitalism has taken an apocalyptic turn

How does creating wealth hurt others?
Inflation. If i print $1 trillion dollars, i buy up all the resources you need to live and dangle them in front of you and control every aspect of your life.
staplers··on SF startup is testing robots in Airbnbs, and trashing them, lawsuit claims
A good doc on this subject: https://machines.cargo.site/
staplers··on Corporations can vote in some Delaware elections, judge says
Dupont, WA is another
staplers··on Accelerando (2005)
A Google API?
staplers··on I'm going back to writing code by hand

You need to be checking every thing it does.
This is what seems to be lost on so many. As someone with relatively little code experience, I find myself learning more than ever by checking the results and what went right/wrong.

This is also why I don't see it getting better anytime soon. So many people ask me "how do you get your claude to have such good output?" and the answer is always "I paid attention and spotted problems and asked claude to fix them." And it's literally that simple but I can see their eyes already glazing over.

Just as google made finding information easier, it didn't fix the human element of deciphering quality information from poor information.

staplers··on US Government releases first batch of UAP documents and videos
You've mistaken indifference with inability. The government can absolutely get something done very quickly if certain people wish. There are numerous examples.
staplers··on The fun has been optimized out of the Internet

the handful of sites you feel like you're stuck using for some reason
Billions have been spent building walls around niche and small sites to funnel people into major platforms. Pretending this ad/discoverability infrastructure doesn't exist is very naive.
staplers··on Uber torches 2026 AI budget on Claude Code in four months
As someone who has written many docs, it's because 99% won't read it (rightfully so if it's verbose). You can turn that doc into a skill in a repo and Claude will read it everytime it's needed.
staplers··on Cybersecurity looks like proof of work now

I would think, the golden age of criminal hacking is drawing to a close. This assume companies smart enough to do this however.
It's rarely the systems that are the weak link, rather the humans with backdoor access.
staplers··on 447 TB/cm² at zero retention energy – atomic-scale memory on fluorographane
Communication technologies have been evolving for billions of years
staplers··on The Vercel plugin on Claude Code wants to read your prompts
Thank you, it's really crazy to be see "it's sad that you want truth when ignorance makes me happy" being upvoted on this platform. I suppose it's par for the course on a VC forum..
