stanislavb··on From where I left
I love that Antirez is on Bluesky and not X. We should all turn off X and migrate out of that toxic platform.
stanislavb··on Show HN: SurveyMoji – An easy way to get realtime feedback with a link/QR code
Simplicity to the point. I'd suggest two improvements though.

1) Make the free surveys last 24h

2) Add the option of custom emojis (as a paid upgrade).

Also, if you submit it to SaaSHub, please ping me here and I can feature it on the weekly newsletter there.

> Scientists and science writers are now being encouraged to migrate to BlueSky.

> Similarly, the European Union of Journalists “has decided to stop publishing content on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, from January 20, 2025, when Donald J. Trump will officially become the 47th president of the United States.”

Good! All good people should stop using X.

stanislavb··on Update on the Mysterious Trump Buyers on Polymarket
And these monetary bets are affecting how some voters will vote. It's promoted on various news websites, too. Combine that with all the money that Elmo is spending on scams and not not scams. In the end, there are so many people trying to scam the US in voting for Trump. The saddest part, to me, is that the so many people are falling for it - even some that you'd deem intelligent sometimes.
stanislavb··on Russia says $20 decillion fine against Google is 'symbolic'
Russia is saying lots of shit. All the time. I thought people weren't giving a shit about Russia is saying these days.
stanislavb··on Is Google Search Cooked?
Yup, if I owned a decent amount of Google stocks, I'd be worried. What is odd to me is that Google is not doing anything substantial to adapt or fix its problems.
stanislavb··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2024)
Maybe… I’d say Yes to some extend. Yet, highly simplified.
stanislavb··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2024)
Suggestion - you can slow down the hero animation of Boxento. In general I like the project. It reminded me to Bento.me. I'd guess you are direct competitors? (I'd also suggest adding Boxento as an alternative to Bento.me on SaaSHub https://www.saashub.com/bento-me)
stanislavb··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (October 2024)
I'm working on a weekly "tournament game" in which the goal is to select the top 5 open-source projects (in a particular topic) per programming language. The first iteration is going to be a copy of SaaSHub Experts https://www.saashub.com/experts/about but for open-source libraries. If this sounds interesting to you, please let me know, and I can send you an invite this or next week (hopefully).
stanislavb··on Using Cloudflare on your website could be blocking RSS users
I was recently contacted by one of my website users as their RSS reader was blocked by Cloudflare.
stanislavb··on Apple introduces iPad mini built for Apple Intelligence
What I want Apple to introduce is a multi-user option for the iPad. Then, I'm buying one of them for the family. We just don't want (or need) an iPad per person.
stanislavb··on The Age of PageRank Is Over (2022)
I think you are right. They might be using a plethora of other factor as an addition to back links; however, genuine links from authoritative sources still seem to be the best "voting" mechanism to bubble up good content/results.

I can imagine that Reddit could join the search war - first, they have so much user gen content that people are deliberately looking for; second, they could use the voting mechanisms that are already in place to give preference to the "better" content. Of course, I might be wrong :).

stanislavb··on We Are in Need of Renaissance People
This. The moment I saw Musk being given as an example of a Renaissance figure, the value of the post dropped close to zero. Musk is a pure snake-oil salesperson. A sham.
stanislavb··on Jazz – Apps with Distributed State
An interesting project and looks quite promising. I will be keeping an eye on it. The source code can be found here https://github.com/gardencmp/jazz (TypeScript).
stanislavb··on The ambition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Thanks. Yes, I learned about that today.
stanislavb··on The ambition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
I've wanted to give MSFS a go for a few years now. Unfortunately, good luck if you use OSX devices only ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
stanislavb··on Time spent programming is often time well spent
"p.s. I will be building an RSS reader/platform in the coming weeks" - the RSS reader was actually built. And it's been actively used and public since then: https://lenns.io/.
stanislavb··on Show HN: Bite Ballot – Vote on where to eat
Seems useful for office workers. And, yes, if you could have a saved list of people and restaurants, the whole process of organizing new ballots/polls could be much faster.
stanislavb··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
I'm sorry, but this is definitely not true. Have you heard about Chinese police overseas or China prosecuting "their" citizens outside of China?
stanislavb··on DuckDuckGo for Mac is now open source
I still use Google; however, Brave Search has been my default and it is good in most cases. Better than Bing (and DDG).
stanislavb··on Telegram founder charged with wide range of crimes in France
Some interesting facts:

- Durov is, according to him, living in exile outside of Russia since 2014 - due to Russian gov persecution.

- Since his "exile" - he has travelled 50-60 times to Russia https://www.reddit.com/r/Telegram/comments/1f2pgg3/pavel_dur...

- Most Russian billionaires that live in exile and are persecuted by the RU gov fall from windows (or something tall) quite often. Durov has been living lavishly though.

- Russia is trying to protect him now that he is being charged.

i.e. a lot of odd and contradicting moments.

stanislavb··on Notes on Buttondown.com
Thanks for sharing. I love it. It's funny to see Mailchimp right at the bottom. Is Mailchimp becoming the "GoDaddy" of email.
stanislavb··on Zettlr: Note-Taking and Publishing with Markdown
What's the best alternative to Logseq. I love it; however, I've been considering moving on. Their progress has slowed down, too, compared to Obsidian.

Has anyone of you switched to Obsidian?

stanislavb··on Companies ground Microsoft Copilot over data governance concerns
Now imagine how much Google (Gmail) knows about us. It gets scary very quickly. Even if you are as private as you can, you will communicate with people whose email is hosted by Google.
stanislavb··on There's an AI – No Junk, Just Gems
For the record - there is a proliferation of directories focussed on "AI Tools" recently (last 1 year). For example, you can find 35+ other websites where to submit your AI tool here https://www.saashub.com/submit/list. For of them, for example "There's An AI __For That__" have the enviable 4M monthly visits. My guess is that the author of "There's An AI" (no For That) will try to bank on some of that traffic by having almost the same brand/name (but shorter).
stanislavb··on There's an AI – No Junk, Just Gems
Sarcastic or serious?
stanislavb··on Cryptominers made $100k from mining at an Airbnb for three weeks
This. The numbers just don't add up in order for this to make any sense.
stanislavb··on Show HN: Product Hunt for Music
Something similar but with a different angle - Urban DJ https://urbanpoll.com/dj

Every day people order the top 5 songs and nominate one another song and a new topic. That way, we always have songs on the same topic. When there are more than 5 songs nominated on the same topic - people filter them out with one extra step.

It's fun, and it's been running since Nov 2022 https://urbanpoll.com/dj/rounds. I'd be happy if more people joined. I'm the "founder" of this little side project.

stanislavb··on Story points are pointless, measure queues
If story points convert to "hours"/"days"/"time" in the end of the day, why is estimating in time less useful?

Asked in another way - why is it more useful to estimate in an unit that's more abstract/distant-from-reality?

stanislavb··on Virginia Woolf's list-making
Oh, what a "hack". I didn't expect that to be a thing. Thanks!
