stanislavb··on UC Berkeley gives personal information for 150 students and staff to government
Why was this flagged? Political?
stanislavb··on This is my brain on leeches
We've used pocket hand sanitiser to make Leeches to detach.
stanislavb··on Attention is your scarcest resource (2020)
I’d like to reiterate this one. Also, having a kid will reduce your “free” time; however, it will also force you to work more focussed.
stanislavb··on Nobody has a personality anymore: we are products with labels
Are you the clothes you wear? No you are not. In a similar manner - your personality is what you show to the world. A construct based as a response to some trauma (or something else very influential, but usually trauma) inflicted on you as a child. i.e. your personality is the clothes your real self wears. It doesn't mean it's not part of you - it is.
stanislavb··on Nobody has a personality anymore: we are products with labels
I'd say - everybody has a personality which is not who they really are. The personality is "simply" the response and defence mehanism of the ego of trauma inflicted during the early formatory years during childhood. It's really interesting what an automatic-machine a person is. Unaware that he is acting machanically in most cases. Source - the Enneagram and Gurdjieff.
stanislavb··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
The best spinning wheel that one can find online. Sometimes we need our "silly" projects for the sake of releasing something useful as well as personal satisfaction.
stanislavb··on A bit more on Twitter/X's new encrypted messaging
You can't, and you shouldn't. That snake will bite the moment it whims.
stanislavb··on Google is quietly burying the internet – is there a solution?
For example - why would content providers allow Google/OpenAi/etc to crawl their data if no traffic is passed on.
stanislavb··on Ask HN: How are you acquiring your first hundred users?
You can give a go to submitting to software directories or marketplaces - e.g. https://www.saashub.com/submit/list
stanislavb··on Vehicle Maintenance Log
Thanks. It seems helpful. Also, the price seems fair $12/y for two vehicles, should be fine for most people. Yet, I somehow have a feeling that most people would expect a one-off price or a "FREE" app.

Anyhow, good luck! I've submitted it to SaaSHub, too https://www.saashub.com/vehicle-maintenance-log

stanislavb··on Figma sent a cease-and-desist letter to Lovable over the term 'Dev Mode'
OK, so Figma has been the owner of the mark "Dev Mode" for about 5 months now https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=98045640&caseSearchType=U.... How come they've managed to register such a generic term these days.

Could someone file for a trademark cancellation on the basis of it being a generic term?

stanislavb··on EU gives staff 'burner phones, laptops' for US visits
Why was this flagged?
stanislavb··on Domain Sniped on Launch Day
I had that bad experience recently. I've been putting a lot of work into thinking the details of a new project. A year! Then, I decided to buy the domain, finally, this January. I knew it was free. Only to discover that someone had bought the domain 20 days ago. That felt sore. I had to come up with a new name.

That's life. Lesson learned.

stanislavb··on Agenda Behind the Facial Recognition Tech Used by ICE and the FBI Revealed
Yup, I was wondering the same. It might the so called "flamefilter", yet, it's suspicious.
stanislavb··on Agenda Behind the Facial Recognition Tech Used by ICE and the FBI Revealed
I think most people will agree with you.
stanislavb··on Moving away from US cloud services
It’s amazing how much damage two persons (Trump & Musk) can cause to the whole of the US. It’s damage for generations ahead.
stanislavb··on The End of Weather Forecasting
They are messing with everyone and everything… all at once. Musk and Trump. And it’s too late to stop them without blood…
stanislavb··on Perma.cc – Permanent Link Service
Yeah, but the the mare success of a service like perma.cc relies on trust. How does someone trust you that you will be here in 10, 20, etc years?

Harvard has been around for hundreds of years, Harvard has inbuilt trust, Harvard has funding. You should negotiate and arrange going behind its brand.

stanislavb··on Teen on Musk's DOGE team graduated from 'The Com'
The sad part is that a lot of people here are complicit, too. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. So many were either brainwashed or put to believe that Kamala is bad ... as bad as Trump. So many in the US showed inaction. You couldn't vote for the "lesser evil" and were happy to let the real evil in the house instead. And now it seems too late. It might be too late. I would bet money that the US won't be able to get rid of these new parasites in the White House for many years. And even after that, it will take generations for the US to gain the trust of its partners and the world. Because trust that's once lost is very difficult to regain.

It seems that at this point, it might be better to "simply" accept the new imperator(s) and learn to live with them and their new rules. And remember, they are NOT breaking the law, they are bending "rules" for the good of humanity... (yeah... nah). They have never tried and will never try to enrich themselves for the sake of their egos.

stanislavb··on Susceptibility to Online Misinformation
With the leaders of misinformation in charge in the US ... Misinformation will be the status quo in the foreseeable future.
stanislavb··on Younger cannabis users have reduced brain function, finds largest study yet
"only one is successful, and It's because he bought BTC in 2014 and still has around 20 of them" - I'd say that's luck and not success :)
stanislavb··on Show HN: Value likelihoods for OpenAI structured output
I guess, he's right - it will be easy and relatively accurate. Relatively/seemingly.
stanislavb··on Why Greenland is of growing strategic significance
That's a very good question. Now, I'm thinking it's been a well pre-orchestrated theatre.
stanislavb··on Luigi Mangione's account has been renamed on Stack Overflow
Why is the title of the post changed? I thought that's against the guidelines.
stanislavb··on Being a developer in the age of reasoning AI
Yes, I think this is the major factor to consider. If it’s only the cost that’s stopping it from replacing real people, then it’s a matter of a few to max several years to be more than cost effective.
stanislavb··on Show HN: Artemis, a Calm Web Reader
Fair enough. I’ll setup a demo account, too.
stanislavb··on Show HN: Lenns.io – a calm web reader that puts you in control
I'm the author of Lenns.io. It's been running as intended for a few years now. AMA.

p.s. as always, any feedback or questions are highly appreciated. Cheers!

stanislavb··on Show HN: Artemis, a Calm Web Reader
I created something similar a few years ago. It's been running fine for me and several other people. Its free, too. It's calm too, although it updates as often as 1-5 minutes.

I'd be happy if someone gives it a go and shares some feedback. I'd say it's quite similar to Artemis; however - you can set different priorities to the sources and the relevant topics.

Cheers - lenns.io

stanislavb··on Show HN: Artemis, a Calm Web Reader
I've been thinking of it, too. And, I've created one a few years ago. It's been running 100% uptime and for free since then - lenns.io. I'd be happy if you give it a go and let me know what you think.
stanislavb··on From where I left
I love that Antirez is on Bluesky and not X. We should all turn off X and migrate out of that toxic platform.
