Bought a quite expensive Liebherr three years ago. Had some trouble with the ice-maker, but they sent a technician who solved it.
Works since then without problems. Does someone have bad experiences with Liebherr?
I found the caption misleading.
This article describes the dreadful ramifications of error(s) in a complex IT system. What it falls short of are details on the hows.
Is it really happyness we should strive for? I hear this over and over without anyone challenging this. Maybe a meaningful live is more fulfilling than a happy one?
If i remember Nitzsche correctly: „No one strives for happiness - only the englishman does!“
And it’s fun too: The new phone is usually way better than the old one!
The only downside is, that for 2 out of 4-5 years, the quality of my fotos are not state-of-the-art.
Maybe, but are they rich because they do it, or the other way around?
Buying quality stuff is possible without being rich:
Most of my friends in school had their fourth walkman before i had my first one (worked for 30+ years btw).
Interesting - didn‘t notice that.
I‘m only buying quality stuff and stick to it as long a possible. Most of my cloth are years old. I’m buying a new iPhone if the one i have doesn’t get any updates anymore, and furniture has to outlive me.
I always thought this is reasonable and that everyone would do it that way: Always having high quality stuff, saving money instead of wasting it by continuously buying cheap things!
Seem‘s like i’m really out of touch with the world.
We built some pretty big applications with VB6 (heavily optimized by using WinAPI-Calls and C++-libs where necessary).
Nothing what came later matched development speed (although some langs using REPLs may come close).
Whoever designed VB.NET didn‘t know anything about the things VB6-developers like my loved. So VB died because what came next simply wasn‘t VB.
Did all of that for more than 30 years now (ok, there weren’t any groups back then). Didn‘t help much I think. Ok for me - i did what i wanted to do - but perhaps government should start to do something too?
As far as i know the tesla car has its own spotify account. So this only works, if you’re the only one driving your car. In my family up to five people drive a car - I don’t think i want one spotify-account used by five people.
Impressing tec! But i never liked make-up or understood why people pay plastic surgeons to ruin their perfectly nice and authentic faces. It kind of makes people artificial and way less interesting. So this is lost on me.
As always - I don’t get it. People talk about AI‘s motives as if it is a given, that it will have them.
As i know us, our first AI that will really change the world, will do this in unexpected ways, driven by unforseen decisions, without any intrinsic motive at all.
We never get it right the first time, because everyone who tries will be to late!
Never heard of this term. What is „shock media“? I also fail to see what part of this blogpost qualifies as „fear mongering“. What am I missing? Is „You will die“ a shocking message, or does induce fear? I thought it is just true.
Autocrats want to survive, yes. So if there’s an economic crisis, they like to distract people. Blaming minorities works as well a starting a war. Look up Idi Amin as an example par excellence!
Intent is not obvious. My wife is a passionate painter, and so she paints every day. Not to get attention, but because „she has to“.
But her Insta-Feed looks exactly like someone cranking out as much as possible. Because that‘s what she does.
And in addition to the fight against vested interests, we have to invest a lot of energy against stupidity and to jump through artificial loops set up by lawyers, administrators and managers. Which leaves so litte to actually do something!
Why is nudity such a big thing? Sorry, but I don‘t get it.
Maybe i do not understand this, because i am german?
My children (as they were little) got in contact with content that distrubed them a lot. The most troubling of them videogame- and movie-previews with violent and gruesome content, that got to them were the enviornment was somehow unconstraint. Sometime they could’nt sleep! Darn - i myself really hate that stuff i have to look at everyday - and i am 52!
Maybe nudity is a problem - ok - do something against it! But the other stuff - we don’t care? Really?
> It's also probably one of the simplest principles to understand.
Turn‘s out - no it isn‘t!
I think DRY and KISS are probably the most important and most misunderstood principles by far. Why? Because they seem trivial at first sight, but really are not.
Not every repetition should be DRYed (dry those which pose a risk to integrity) and „simple“ is not the same as „easy“ or „familiar“!
I feel you!
I worked with Hashes in Perl since the 90s, Did almost 10 years of Java used Dictionaries in the early versions of C#, switched to JS, Ruby and Clojure for a while and didn‘t remember how to correctly declare a typed Hash in Java in a programming kata - ouch!
So if you are a unicorn, you need to find a special environment i guess?
Beeing a full-stack engineer isn’t problematic. But searching those amongst really young people may be misguided. Because yes, learning takes time.
If you want someone with profound knowledge and experience in nearly every programming language, concept and project management methodology, you should look for people in their 50s.
Those, who had time to invest 35k-40k hours into their passion and are going strong still. The real „unicorns“!
I can empathize. And Bbecause you asked:
Don’t worry. Stay Self-critical. Excel at being an informavore - learn, learn, learn, and be patient. Not long and coding will start to bore you. Then you can leave it behind.
What troubles me everytime i watch a video linke this: Why isn’t there any indicator to which degree a car on FSD-Mode operates? I mean - if there are troubling conditions due to bad weather or missing road-marks - the system should be able to tell how well it can make decisions, right?
„The findings should not be used for clinical or public health decision making and should not be presented to a lay audience without highlighting that they are preliminary and have not been peer-reviewed.“
The blog-post doesn‘t follow this advice. So i will not consider it as trustworthy.
