ssully··on EFF is leaving X
You do not have to look beyond Elon’s own Twitter accounts posts, retweets, and likes, to see that he is a full fledged white supremacist. Calling him a Nazi is appropriate.
ssully··on Trump's global tariffs struck down by US Supreme Court
Except that isn’t relevant at all. This Supreme Court is completely cooked. If the case was “can Trump dissolve New York as a state” you would still have 3 justices siding in his favor with some dog shit reasoning.
ssully··on Europe could 'weaponize' $10T of US assets over Greenland
I keep trying to call the White House to express my disapproval but they just call me a dumb lib and send a gang of ICE officers to my neighborhood to kidnap my neighbors.
ssully··on Design and Implementation of Sprites
Sounds neat! Also kind of funny, because I already use Fly machines as a bit of a playground for some personal projects and really like it for that purpose. I have minor issues, some of which this blog post directly talks about, but nothing that has held me back.

Also I like a lot of what you get built-in with Fly machines(ex:Grafana). So I am curious how this would fit in my workflow. Maybe Sprites for rapid development and toy projects, and move to a Fly machine when I need something a little more beefy?

Looking forward to checking this out.

ssully··on More big companies bet they can still grow without hiring
Biden did exactly what you are asking for in “massive investment and employment in industries with positive externalities” and your average voter didn’t give a shit.
ssully··on US axes website for reporting human rights abuses by US-armed foreign forces
I think distilling in that far is missing the point that this is a republican and right wing issue. It doesn’t “just so happen” that republicans are in power while this is happening, they are the ones who are doing it.
ssully··on US axes website for reporting human rights abuses by US-armed foreign forces
It’s not odd though. This administration has been very clear that they think things like rules of engagement or caring about collateral damage are bullshit.

On a weekly basis now, they are blowing up civilian boats without any evidence wrong doing. Even if they had evidence, it still wouldn’t warrant using hellfire missiles on civilian ships, especially when the U.S. navy or coastguard is more than capable of intercept these ships.

ssully··on Generational Luck in the Housing Market
Now do average cost of houses.
ssully··on U.S. sues Apple, accusing it of maintaining an iPhone monopoly
That isn’t how it works. Your own bubbles are green, all the “external” people in the chat have “regular” colors. Ex: I am using dark mode, so their bubbles show as dark for me, and mine are green.
ssully··on U.S. sues Apple, accusing it of maintaining an iPhone monopoly
Not saying this to defend Apple, but last week I had that same location tracking pop up for Apples Weather app.
ssully··on 6 months in, journalist-owned tech publication 404 Media is profitable
This does not reinforce what OP originally claimed.
ssully··on 6 months in, journalist-owned tech publication 404 Media is profitable
This is false.
ssully··on Why Don't We Teach People How to Parent?
If that’s true of raising a pet, than that person probably shouldn’t try raising a child.
ssully··on Train robbery for Amazon packages? More common than you think
The Wild West, very famous for not having guns.
ssully··on The New York Times is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement
Haven’t seen anyone mention how Apple is exploring deals with news publishers, like the NYTimes, to train its LLMs[1].

ssully··on Mister Rogers had a point – routinely greeting six neighbors maximizes wellbeing
Big time. I have a neighbor about half a block from me that would harass me when I would walk my dogs by his house. Based on his behavior I assume he struggles with some mental issues.

The one positive is I avoid his house completely, so now my standard dog walking route is a block longer, so more exercise for me and the dogs.

ssully··on How the iMac Saved Apple
Do you mean for work use, or for all their computing needs? I’ve never used a personal computer for work.
ssully··on Supreme Court Rejects Student Loan Forgiveness Plan
The government is constantly forgiving debts. What are you talking about?
ssully··on U.S. pedestrian deaths reach a 40-year high
If you pull up behind a car stopped at a pedestrian crossing, your assumption should be they are stopped for a pedestrian.
ssully··on The teen mental illness epidemic is international – Part 1: The Anglosphere
They made it up, because we are certainly still allowed to clap at events.
ssully··on The teen mental illness epidemic is international – Part 1: The Anglosphere
It happening in rare instances isn’t sufficient for the OP to claim “we aren’t allowed to clap at events because clapping is too violent”.
ssully··on The teen mental illness epidemic is international – Part 1: The Anglosphere
Yeah I’ve definitely been to events where quiet or no clapping is preferred (ex: poetry readings) but the OP claiming we aren’t aloud to clap at events anymore because it’s too violent sounds like someone who hasn’t actually been to a public event in the last year.
ssully··on The teen mental illness epidemic is international – Part 1: The Anglosphere
They made it up.

ssully··on Rovio delists original Angry Birds from PlayStore because it's still too popular
In terms of recent releases, Banshees of Inisherin was the first thing that sprung to mind.
ssully··on Rovio delists original Angry Birds from PlayStore because it's still too popular
Sorry, but you are just generalizing based on the top blockbuster movies. Films have never been more diverse in their style and quality and, in my opinion, offer something for everyone.

If you are looking for movies that focus on strong dialogue and character work those movies are still being made and are fantastic.

ssully··on Amazon will require employees return to the office 3 days a week
No, they have data on how much money they paid for office space. Thats all it is.
ssully··on Sexual loneliness: A neglected public health problem?
Men do the same thing. That’s literally why the swipe style of dating apps was created; to quickly judge if you are interested or not mainly in appearance. That’s why the OPs first point was about good photos and presentation.
ssully··on Ask HN: Has anyone worked at the US National Labs before?
It depends on how your projects/team is funded. I’ve been on teams where a shutdown had a pretty immediate impact (people had to be shuffled around to other projects in the short term). I’ve also been on teams that get all their funding at the start of fiscal, so a shutdown doesn’t impact them until they need to be funded again.
ssully··on Ask HN: Books you read in 2022 and recommend for 2023
East of Eden was one of like 3 Steinbeck books I havent read. I finally got around to it this summer and it’s probably one of my favorite books now.
