He knows that it's hard to move your company once you've settled in somewhere. Much more economical for Google if you stay on the fringe outskirts and let them acquire your baby for pennies on the dollar.
Stocks will still allow themselves to be bought by BSHW.
How did this make it to the front page? grin
With that being said, I've known a fair number of varying degrees of paranoid people.
I suspect this tactic would oftentimes just play into, indulge, and validate their paranoia.
In this case the security hole of /user/123 just needs to be properly locked down. That is all.
I am curious to understand how Torus is similar to Sheepdog [0].
From the Sheepdog website:
Sheepdog is a distributed object storage system for
volume and container services and manages the disks
and nodes intelligently. Sheepdog features ease of use,
simplicity of code and can scale out to thousands of
nodes.
The block level volume abstraction can be attached to
QEMU virtual machines and Linux SCSI Target and supports
advanced volume management features such as snapshot,
cloning, and thin provisioning.
The object level container abstraction is designed to
be Openstack Swift and Amazon S3 API compatible and can
be used to store and retrieve any amount of data with a
simple web services interface.

EDIT:
At the same time, I understand where you're coming from so thanks for the info mikeyouse!
@the_af: In the future it'd be most courteous of you to provide links to that which you cite; it spares everyone from having to google it ;)
I wish authors would qualify more of their exotic initialisms in general.

* SQL Server is proprietary
* SQL Server licenses are expensive
* SQL Server runs only on Windows (or least used to?)
Is there really a powerful enough battery to make it work for a useful amount of time?
Are people really willing to charge or replace the batteries as often as is required (likely every few days or a week at the very least, by my back-of-the-envelope calculation)?

I submitted my resume years ago and never heard back. I wonder who they hired instead..
Other than Guido, of course :)
I'd also like to add that given a choice I've learned to do the portions believed to be "easy" first, that way you'll find out sooner if they actually turn out to be harder than anticipated.
This helps reduce the risk of ending up screwed as well as the severity of screwage when the unexpected arises; If you save the "easy" parts until the end, your project will be even further behind schedule.
On another note, I find it very odd that this fell off the front page so quickly. Is there some kind of go/google voters club on HN that flags anything that seems negative towards go?
