@Tomp - Well it's hard to compare digital products to physical products since you don't have to create the item more than once for a digital good. Just because you didn't plan to pay anyway, doesn't make it any less "stealing" You can't use the argument "I was never going to buy it anyway" as a valid reason for stealing something.
Networking isn't a one-off kind of thing, essentially you are trying to be something of a 'friend' to this person, benefiting both parties.
The second way is to read - not just articles or HN, but novels or non-fiction are another source for me. It functions in the same way as the first: chances are the main character or at parts in the story you will notice things that seem impractical. I noticed this while reading case studies at school, the authors usually explicitly point out that "this industry was fragmented" or so forth.
However, in the case of this article, it's funny that the crappy job is the one that is most sought after.
