srid··on Ruby deserves better leadership than DHH
The Ruby community has a DHH problem

srid··on An open letter calling for a hard fork of Rails to remove DHH's influence
The Wikipedia page lumps together immigrant Asians with native born Asians. cf. "Asian or Asian British" as 20.8%. Same for Blacks.

Do we know the actual breakdown?

srid··on An open letter calling for a hard fork of Rails to remove DHH's influence
You can still open PRs, like this one:

srid··on DHH: Calling someone a "Nazi" is a permission slip for violence
> blabbering unrequested political opinions

There is a politically-motivated open letter seeking to cancel him: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45366312 | https://x.com/tobi/status/1970944464303923687

Instead of suggesting that DHH stay silent, your online verbal energy would be best directed towards the politicaly supporters of that open letter, wouldn't you say? Who do you think are the actual political agitaters in tech?

Is Helix good for Markdown-based note taking workflows? I suppose no, because plugin system is yet unavailable.
srid··on Raku.org Chooses Htmx
I just tried out Pico in a small site. The resultant HTML looks more semantic and readable compared to that of Tailwind.

Though, Claude Code ended up injecting a bunch of CSS definitions, which you can't avoid I suppose.

Or if you are on macOS, there is https://github.com/juspay/services-flake which is based on process-compose. So you get an unified alternative to docker-compose but based on Nix and works on both platforms.

srid··on The Dereliction of Due Process in the Scala Community
Here are two submissions on Jon Pretty, one from 2021 when the cancellation happened, and another from this year when it became clear who the wrongdoers really were. It is really interesting to compare the nature of discussion between the two threads:

Just FYI, you can't expect intelligent conversations on HN about anything related to Elon Musk. A small vocal group really hate him, and we know that passion (especially if politically motivated) retards intelligence.

srid··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
My gut feeling is that HN comments on these political threads (which are almost always of sinistral statist ideology, à la anti-DOGE, pro-Ukraine, etc.) do not properly represent the whole HN demographics. It seems that only a small vocal group of participants tend to participate in these threads. Most techies just want to do tech stuff.
srid··on ChatGPT Saved My Life (no, seriously, I'm writing this from the ER)
Yes, but this doctor in particular doesn't seem to have any such automated system. They seem to reviewing it all manually. From the post,

> I was told I’d receive a response in 2-3 business days

2-3 "business days"? Yea, I can see how LLMs are going to be super helpful in patients taking their health more in their own hands.

srid··on Lobsters blocking UK users because of the Online Safety Act
> At least HN allows you to come back under another name

You can also come back under the same account, which is what I did. I emailed dang, and promised to respect the site's guidelines this time.

Lobste.rs on the other hand has terrible moderation, with moderators arguably being from one political clique. You can find details about the ridiculous ban they issued on my account in this X thread: https://x.com/sridca/status/1751586241110519837

pushcx then tried to argue with me here after 3 months, lying about the ban: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40166912#40176320

srid··on Grok 3 claims its system prompt includes censorship about Musk/Trump
I cannot reproduce your result. Rather, I get Elon Musk as the answer:

https://grok.com/share/bGVnYWN5_0441b53b-1ac6-4c0d-bcbd-64e4...

---

However, this used sources from mainstream. So if you account for the mainstream media bias, the answer is rather uncertain: Based on factual analysis, no specific account can be identified as the biggest spreader of misleading statements on Twitter. Studies indicate that a small number of verified or automated accounts play a significant role, but names are not provided.

srid··on DOGE employees don't understand the basics of SQL
> What should I believe?

For one thing, do not blindly believe what you read here on Hacker News, where there is a clear anti-Musk slant. I'd recommend more rational places like https://www.themotte.org/ where these topics can be discussed in a relatively calm manner. You are likely to come up with more informed opinions than otherwise.

srid··on Grok 3: Another win for the bitter lesson
We understand very little about human microbiota (therapies like fecal microbiota transplant, however, are promising) yet germ theory is "settled science"? Interesting.
