ngrok does this free, but with an account
srichard16··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Can confirm. Coming from ngrok, the main reason we had to make tunneling not anonymized etc was because of scammers, etc on the internet. Other players in the space bypass this by open sourcing the tech, or separating the architecture entirely. This is cool and all, but ultimately gives nefarious actors on the internet more opportunities.

For what its worth, this has been swiriling around on socials and i saw someone noted that the guy had been busted for something at age 17, maybe he was on some list?

I work at ngrok, and this is not how our freemium plan works. Free plans limit based on usage alone, not on machine IDs.

srichard16··on Ask HN: What are all the ways to punch through NAT?
I think this is the most popular GH: https://github.com/anderspitman/awesome-tunneling. There are tunneling tools written in Go, Rust, Python, Node, PHP, Java, .NET, and C. Some use SSH, some WireGuard, some WebSockets, some QUIC, some roll their own protocol. Many are single-maintainer projects with bursts of commits followed by silence.

ngrok owns the space, allows you to actually put protections in place for your tunnel. Really popular for site-to-site vpn replacement and remote access for devices. They have static domains on free now. Tunnels no longer time out.

Cloudflare has a tunnel product, if you're already using their DNS.

Many of the IDEs have tunnels now too

This is a pretty huge problem for marketing teams in general with site sprawl (and docs, too) so I like how this was solved.
srichard16··on Our DevOps stack and recent improvements
With nd, developers shouldn’t need to know how to build or deploy a service; they just need to know what service they want to interact with, and nd helps whether go, webpack, bazel, or docker builds that service. Likewise, deploying a service automatically checks if it was built, and if not, nd will build it for them (or warn them if it's production-bound and they want a CI build instead).

Curious: why do you see ngrok as just for testing and dev when thousands of users use ngrok in production?

Full disclosure I work there.
