spurdoman77··on Tesla has closed its forums to launch a social platform and fans are not happy
Their BTC bet is already profitable to the tune of 1bln. Yeah BTC will crash at some point but still those who either manage to sell at good enough levels or have long enough time preference to hold til the next rally will make some serious profit.
spurdoman77··on Coinbase S-1
In many cases it is probably goood choice to keep the coins in custodial, but the fact that you have a possibility for self-custody is great.
spurdoman77··on Nigeria's Central Bank has prohibited banks from processing cryptocurrencies
Lol, no one is going to care about the retail getting scammed. Otherwise I agree, things might get nasty if important rich people get scammed.
spurdoman77··on Why does gold have value?
Why do jelly dildos have value?
spurdoman77··on Flash Loans Are Providing Instant Cash to Crypto Speculators
No, definitely not.
spurdoman77··on Flash Loans Are Providing Instant Cash to Crypto Speculators
What is the liquidity of ETH lending market? 100M short term loan easy to get, what would be the interest?

Last time I checked defi usdt lending rates seemed to hover around 8-9%. Not that exciting when you consider insane gas fees and all the hassle managing the contracts.

spurdoman77··on Finally, a Private Stock Exchange
Poor people supposed to stay poor and not have too much upside, thats why accredited investor rules.

This also limits their downside.

spurdoman77··on Bitcoin Is a Dirty Business
Though Ethereum is still PoW, and I am pretty sceptical that they will transition to PoS successfully.
spurdoman77··on Ask HN: Why aren't micropayments a thing?
Yeah. For example, thats why people like all-inclusive hotels. The reason is that you dont have to think about the prices all the time. You just go through the package only and thats it.

The less tranactions, the better. At least for the majority of us. It is very rare to prefer doing many small transactions over one big.

spurdoman77··on What Explains Bitcoin’s Resurgence?
Why would BTC correlate with SP500? There hasnt been much correlation in the 11 years BTC has existed, only during recent year and not much really.
spurdoman77··on What Explains Bitcoin’s Resurgence?
Thats not the tip of the iceberg. Thats pretty good coverage of the publicly know institutions holding BTC and thats already quite a lot of BTC. The rest is held by private companies and individuals, but I doubt there are lots of notable organisations holding BTC outside that list.
spurdoman77··on The Environmental Cost of Bitcoin
What is a bitcoin "app"? For me it is useful enough that I can buy fancy designer drugs online with it.
spurdoman77··on An Economic Analysis of Ethereum
I havent heard of any claims that segwit and LN would be sufficient. It is very clear mathematics that they cant scale far. However they provide safe way to scale for short-term. Long-term solutions have to be found. If they are not found there is thousands of shitcoins claiming to solve the scalability issues better.
spurdoman77··on Ask HN: Is frugality underrated in startups?
Frugality doesnt equal stupidity. Of course a frugal person doesnt spend an hour trying to save $5.

Being frugal and priorizing business spending and time are not contradictory. Frugality is about spending less while getting the same value.

spurdoman77··on Facebook will pay more than $300 each to 1.6M Illinois users in settlement
> One difference is lawyers are regulated, licensed professionals who have to follow ethics rules

LOL

spurdoman77··on The Bit Short: Inside Crypto’s Doomsday Machine
Both opposites of this tax debate spectrum are flawed. Most important thing is to enjoy life. If you focus too much on avoiding taxes, or pay them too much, you are losing. Pay what you pay and only spend resources on tax planning if it makes sense.
spurdoman77··on U.S. insurrectionists received $500k in bitcoins from French donor
Depends what you are selling. It is not illegal to sell bread to criminals. Or cars. Maybe if done knowingly? I dont see big risks in accepting bitcoin as a payment method for legal goods and services.
spurdoman77··on German police take down 'world's largest darknet marketplace'
Post can be sent relatively anonymously. Receiving is problematic but for small amounts of weed most drug users dont care.
spurdoman77··on Is Tether Just a Scam to Enrich Bitcoin Investors?
> everybody just takes their word that they have the cash backing up the 1:1 ratio

Most people dont care if they have full reserve. I dont care if there is full reserve at my bank. I care that there is enough reserves.

spurdoman77··on BeagleV – An affordable RISC-V computer designed to run Linux
Why the linux boards are always designed to be cheap? What about those who have little more dough and are willing to put some cash to get extra? Just create some expensiver premium models, not only cheap stuff, damn it.
spurdoman77··on Visa and Plaid Abandon Merger After Antitrust Division’s Suit to Block
> There are organizations and companies that are trying to do this legitimately, through open standards and real incentives to both FIs and customers to share information in exchanges:

That is never going to work. The reason the world works the way it works is because banks dont want to give easy access, so market opportunity for companies like Plaid exists.

spurdoman77··on The M1 MacBook Air is the best computer I've ever owned
I have tried arm computers such as raspberry pi and they are slow. The linux arm projects seem to target just the cheapest price, m1 seems more like bang for buck. I hope linux hardware develops towards that.
spurdoman77··on Ask HN: Which companies work like Gumroad?
This is sane way to think. There are awesome workplaces out there. Whether you have a shot getting employed there is another question.
spurdoman77··on No More KYC with ShapeShift
Everything is cat-and-mouse game in the end.
spurdoman77··on No More KYC with ShapeShift
So essentially a security scam.
spurdoman77··on Asahi Linux: Linux on Apple Silicon project
What they got to win? It is probably quite small userbase.
spurdoman77··on Asahi Linux: Linux on Apple Silicon project
Pinebook does the typical "as cheap and low-end as possible" linux stuff.

I would love to see ARM linux hardware manufacturer who would aim to create a high-end fanless powerhorse like mac mini.

spurdoman77··on Asahi Linux: Linux on Apple Silicon project
If they arent actively opposing it that can be enough.
spurdoman77··on Slack is down
Depends on how well compensated holiday overtime is. There are some employees happy to work overtime if their hourly pay is doubled or tripled. However there also those who wouldnt do that for any price.
spurdoman77··on Run is a platform to build apps and tokens on Bitcoin
Nah, the bitter soy boy is just jealous holding that index fund etf and looking from sidelines how btc makes 1000% gains.
