spsful··on New LinkedIn Data Leak Leaves 700M Users Exposed
IMO it seems to be exactly the same thing.. LinkedIn has never made itself out to be respectful of privacy, so I'm really not surprised.
spsful··on Tesla loses U.S. designation for some advanced safety features
It's a cash payment to Tesla for a feature that doesn't yet exist, so technically they owe you something until they deliver FSD. If you bought this, you would have been owed $10k but in the form of a self-driving feature. So until they deliver that they technically owe you money, but they owe it to you in the form of FSD.
spsful··on Farming robot kills 100k weeds per hour with lasers
I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned it yet, but I don't see it in the thread anywhere.

Have they mentioned its safety around animals? Presumably a neural network would identify most mammals properly, but what about an insect? Could a praying mantis be lumped in as a weed?

spsful··on Adobe charges subscription cancellation fee
Am I wrong to say that they could just cancel their credit card and.. move on?
spsful··on Waymo CEO dismisses Tesla self-driving plan: “This is not how it works”
Is anyone else confused on the merits of Waymo's argument? They differentiate "driver assistance" from "fully autonomous" systems in that Tesla somehow can never achieve the latter because they have developed the former. The only specific reason for this that I could find was a mention of LiDAR and how Waymo sees it as indispensable.

> Krafcik says that Waymo has largely completed technical work on its self-driving software and is now focused on scaling the technology up.

...cool? Again, no mention of a SPECIFIC reason Tesla cannot do the same work as Waymo outside of not having LiDAR sensors. They attack Tesla for not developing a fully autonomous vehicle from the get-go, but don't seem to explain why this makes it any harder for them to make the finished product.

spsful··on Apple's 15% Deflection Tactic
Two completely unrelated sentiments but... ok
spsful··on My Resignation from the Intercept
Not to be crass but I think just throwing a book out doesn't help to give evidence-- I think they are looking for specific examples.
spsful··on Netflix raises monthly charges for U.S. subscribers
Yikes, HBO actually joined the Netflix boat early last year. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/03/hbo-b...
spsful··on Apple building search engine to take on Google, report claims
As someone who has used tv on non-Apple devices I can say it works completely fine. It doesn't stream 4k like it would on apple devices, but it works fine.

- As for iCloud, their Windows client is a little lackluster. For example, the only way they can sync your iCloud calendar on Windows is by creating an Outlook plugin. So the only place I can view my iCloud calendar on my Windows computer is on the Outlook app.

- As for Music, the web player is completely fine. Not any less optimized than the Apple device versions. Would actually go further and say it looks MORE optimized than the mess of iTunes/"Music" on the Mac. Apple's native music app on the Mac has never been good.

- As for Maps, I don't think I've ever seen a web based version of it. Haven't seen a windows app variant either.

Edit: made it easier to read

spsful··on Apple building search engine to take on Google, report claims
> unlike Google, it’s not reliant on advertising income, which benefits from personalized data with which to target users.

I'm unsure as to whether they would seriously create a new ad platform, but a key tenant of the company's culture is not relying on advertising for revenue.

spsful··on .gay Generic Top Level Domain(gTLD.) is now open for public
Firstly, the company overseeing the tld gets to make its own rules. For example, you'd have to go through Verisign at some point if you wanted a .com domain. Second, the only things encapsulated by the term LGBTQ are sexual orientation and gender identity, two innately connected concepts. People can add as many letters to the acronym as they want but it doesn't change anything about the movement or the group as a whole.
spsful··on Tutanota aknowledge being under attack
Might be a mobile quirk? I tried it on Mac Safari and it went back like normal.
spsful··on Removing email registration improved retention
>you can target them on Quora, Reddit etc as well.

This is one of the reasons I stopped giving out my primary email address for user signups. I use a service called Blur which allows for unlimited "masked" emails to be created, allowing me to give companies read-only email addresses. In the four years I've had it I have created 378 email addresses. If I'm including the email addresses that I've already deleted, the list gets to 400.

Marketing and the 3000 spam messages I get per month made me do this. It does not have to be this way, but as long as corporations can play fast and loose with my email address I will make sure they never get a real one to begin with.

Edit: Want to add here that I am not in any way sponsored by that company, I've just been using them for years now and think their prices are reasonable.

spsful··on Applebot
Just read your reply. That's very frustrating to read -- hopefully the Apple employees come to their senses and add the building soon. It's also weird that they called you through FaceTime and still did nothing. Either way, sorry to hear about all the frustration you've been through.
spsful··on Applebot
Have you tried reporting it? My parents recently moved into a new house built one year prior and I reported it a few days after they moved in. It took about 9 months, but they finally added the road in and populated ALL the addresses on the street, not just the one I reported. Google maps still does not have the roads or street numbers listed. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Edit: Also want to add that it has been two years since my parents moved in. Went in to Waze Map Editor and added the road myself, so their turnaround time was instant. Apple Maps took 9 months, like I said, but Google Maps still has no info on the street despite having all the houses in clear satellite view.

spsful··on The Big Tesla Hack: A hacker gained control over the entire fleet
In the context of headlines, maybe. It seems a little more pessimistic with this omission.
spsful··on TikTok to challenge U.S. order banning transactions with the video app
I'm not sure if Americans are better off, but the sale is certainly for political reasons. It's inherently about a fear of the Chinese government data-mining with millions of American citizens; if an American entity is doing it, they probably wouldn't care nearly as much.
spsful··on Uber and Lyft shutdown in California averted as judge grants emergency stay
I'd just like to add here that Uber is now allowing drivers to set rates.
spsful··on Apple, Epic, and the App Store
Which would be irrelevant since the original comment was that Epic had no monopoly on any market, and didn't specify the terms and conditions for a market to fit the argument.
spsful··on Instagram promises to fix bug after always accessing the camera on iOS 14
Almost funny to see that people are taking a feature from an unreleased, beta version of iOS as certain proof that companies are acting mischievous.
spsful··on Instagram promises to fix bug after always accessing the camera on iOS 14
>“We only access your camera when you tell us to — for example, when you swipe from Feed to Camera. We found and are fixing a bug in iOS 14 Beta that mistakenly indicates that some people are using the camera when they aren’t,” the spokesperson said. “We do not access your camera in those instances, and no content is recorded.”
spsful··on Instagram promises to fix bug after always accessing the camera on iOS 14
It's noted in the article that no photos or videos were taken when Facebook inadvertently showed the camera page to the user. If they weren't capturing anything, then it really was a bug.
spsful··on Bloomberg chief editor: We publish too many mediocre and long enterprise stories
I think his point was more well-intentioned. If writers wanted to quickly get an issue out to print (or publish), they could make it easily readable at <400 words. But if it's a tell-all, he gives them full authority to make it a long piece. If it's a particularly boring subject then maybe the writers will start making those stories shorter? In that case, the important details would still be there, just not as well explained. I don't think this restricts their journalism at all.
spsful··on New Mac ransomware spreading through piracy
Exactly this. Been wondering the same thing myself.
spsful··on Apple acquires Dark Sky
What did AccuWeather do?
spsful··on Federal Reserve slashes interest rates to zero
They didn't use them before because it would have been illegal. The Fed has mandated a 10% liquidity for all major banks.

spsful··on Comcast and T-Mobile upgrade everyone to unlimited data for next 60 days
I hope I don't sound stupid but could you explain the joke?

Edit: a word

spsful··on Bill Gates has stepped down from Microsoft's board
He would probably like to know why it makes sense to hire these external heads. If you were talking about the most outlandish of these board members, why would you say they deserve to be on the board? (I'm genuinely asking here as I don't know why myself)
spsful··on People kept working, became healthier while on basic income: report
The only thing I would want to add is a minimum wage increase would cause employment to decrease holding all else equal, so an increase in supply would not be observed unless something else were at play.
spsful··on US says it can prove Huawei has backdoor access to mobile-phone networks
Open Whisper Systems has one of the most secure messaging services on the planet. The US military is rumored to have been telling operatives to use it instead of text on their government phones[1].
