spread_love··on Ask HN: How did you get rid of your performance anxiety?
Do you struggle with anxiety in general? This sounds like a symptom of a bigger problem.

First step is cut out all drugs (yes even our beloved alcohol). As a depressant it might work in the short term, for the same reason long term it will make things worse.

Toastmasters is a good idea. Have you tried talking to a therapist?

spread_love··on Detroit man steals 800 gallons using Bluetooth to hack gas pumps at station
How do you fence stolen gasoline? Is there a black market for the stuff?

Even if you got away with this, you're looking at $2000-$4000 in profit? Seems hardly with the risk (even if you're not concerned with ethics). Not to mention you have to safely store 800 gallons of gas somewhere.

spread_love··on Getting into Pinball
Is pinball seeing a resurgence in popularity?

A friend of mine is internationally ranked, and he started out much like the author:

> What if I built a wall cutting it in half and built a pinball room in the resulting new room

Their small apartment is now full of pinball machines, tools and parts

Like a train switching tracks! I never noticed.

So what does ⌘ represent?

spread_love··on Growing scientific interest in vagus nerve stimulation
Thanks for sharing. I'm considering VNS but frankly I'm terrified of complications and recovery time.
spread_love··on Acronym’s new computer with Asus is bonkers, but that’s the point
Word, remember the world before the hockey puck mouse? Strange to think we used to shape those like a human hand.
spread_love··on Acronym’s new computer with Asus is bonkers, but that’s the point
> You’d better know how to touch type. The Cyrillic-ish alphabet designed for Acronym by Rudnick is all part of the theme

Any high res photos of the keys/lettering?

spread_love··on Don't use Control Center to turn off Bluetooth on iPhone
> Turning off WiFi makes your battery life worse, because you'll forget to turn it back on

What? (I'm not OP)

spread_love··on Don't use Control Center to turn off Bluetooth on iPhone
Simply conserving battery life?

And according to the article iPhone users that thought their Bluetooth was turned off were vulnerable to attacks; that's not a superstition.

spread_love··on Can we please just go back to using smaller wheels and tires?

just a joke, apologies :(

you leaving is actually part of the reason I left at the time, you were one of the few admins who regularly participated (it seemed)

By reading the source code? No wonder reddit used to go down so often...
spread_love··on Mark Zuckerberg: ‘It’s time to move on’ from potential fight with Elon Musk
Old Man Musk can talk it, can't walk it. This playground provocation was boring enough when it started, good call by zuck.

Thanks! I should have specified it's impossible without a fixed height (height: auto).

Most of these aren't widely used because they were quaint attempts at solving problems that no longer exist, could be better solved with CSS (as the author concedes with <small>), and very much depend on browser implementation.

I was excited when <details> and <summary> landed in all evergreen browsers for example, but just to get the content to slide open (guiding the user) instead of pop open requires JS (the best implementations I've seen use WAAPI), Safari adds a proprietary pseudo element, etc.

spread_love··on The average Manhattan rent just hit a new record of $5,588 a month
> without a slight risk of being stabbed by a crazy person

So you've never been to Port Authority...

spread_love··on The average Manhattan rent just hit a new record of $5,588 a month
Commute from BK or Queens is still feasible, they are BIG boroughs so it differs on which part. Prices are lower but climbing, especially in neighborhoods very close to Manhattan.

Bronx still has a high crime rate; depends on where. Tremont and Highbridge are pretty rough. Lots of the Bronx is still as safe or safer than, say, East Harlem (in Manhattan).

spread_love··on Theft of the Mona Lisa (2000)
Argue against me please: da Vinci's real Mona Lisa is not what's hanging in the Louvre; the original was never recovered. (This is one of my favorite conspiracies)

spread_love··on Wavy walls use fewer bricks than a straight wall (2020)
Another "article" summarizing a reddit post. They even took the top comment and put it at the end

> wavy walls that lawnmowers surely detest!

I'm delighted to let you know that you missed the point. It was a very short comment.

No, it changed ownership many times since 1999.

> On July 5 2017, Musk repurchased the domain name X.com from PayPal

They even took a little jab at him when it happened

> "We are delighted to sell the domain x.com back to its previous owner"

spread_love··on Social media is too much for most of us to handle
I went dark and lost touch with a lot of friends and family. I was just keeping up with their life by Liking posts instead of, you know, calling them.

Freemium teaser?

I'd monetize this by adding features and hiding them behind MDN Pro+ (or w/e the subscription is called) in the future. Ala Codepen.

You didn't remove all the default styling added by all browsers? This site is styled differently depending on browser.

I suppose that means "you're trying to cover up your lack of interesting information"?
