splitbrain··on Kevin Mitnick has died
Labelling the installation of DokuWiki as rebellion just made my day :-D
splitbrain··on Show HN: OPML list of Hacker News Users Personal Blogs
Everyone who missed the thread, please consider adding your blog here: https://indieblog.page/suggest
splitbrain··on Show HN: OPML list of Hacker News Users Personal Blogs
If you want a more casual approach then to right away import 600 feeds into your reader, check out the feed options at IndieBlog.page - it gives you daily random posts not only from the 600 URLs of that recent thread but also from a similar one back in April last year and a bunch of other indie sources...

splitbrain··on Show HN: Hacker News user blogroll
That's what https://indieblog.page was made for
splitbrain··on Ask HN: Could you share your personal blog here?
Quick reminder: you can register your personal blog at https://indieblog.page/ and everyone interested in discovering new personal blogs can check it out.

I will later add the blogs mentioned in this thread.

splitbrain··on Open source Diablo 1 engine – DevilutionX 1.5.0 released
Back in the day all wikis used to be open for editing, unfortunately spam and vandalism has made it rare. Anyway, as another random visitor, I simply reverted that change.
splitbrain··on In Praise of the Park Bench
Funny, I just built and set up a public bench this weekend, though not in a park but in a rural area. https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2023-06/03-guerrilla_banking
splitbrain··on Twenty years of blogging
Absolutely! One of my favorite things on my own website is the random button which takes me to a random page. It's a fun way to be teleported back in time to some post in the past.

splitbrain··on Twenty years of blogging
My first Blog post was 22 years ago: https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2002-02/05-2002_02_05

It has been on the same software (DokuWiki) for 18 years now: https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2005-11/25-splitbrain_relaun...

How time flies when you're having fun ;-)

splitbrain··on DIY-Thermocam: A low-cost thermal imager based on the FLIR Lepton sensor
Awesome project. But $300 is still quite steep for a thing I might maybe use once a year. I really wish these thermal sensors came down in price...
splitbrain··on Fulfilling a reader's request for my “dot files”
This looks super interesting. I'll give this a go for a while to see how much I like it.
splitbrain··on Kottke.org is 25 years old today
Shameless plug: There are still lots of personal blogs out there and an easy way to stumble on them is https://indieblog.page/
splitbrain··on My favourite 3 lines of CSS
This. So much this. I wish I could make my colleagues understand.
splitbrain··on Ask HN: Do you measure and/or mitigate CO2 in your living space?
Berlin native here. My mother (also Berlin-born) said "Träum süß von sauren Gurken". So not a cologne-only thing.
splitbrain··on EU throws party in €387K metaverse – and hardly anyone turns up
> A spokesperson for the Commission told Devex that the promotional post’s purpose was to "increase awareness of what the EU does on the world stage" among 18-to-35 year olds found "primarily on TikTok and Instagram"

Huh. If that's the goal, wouldn't investing into TikTok and Instagram content make much more sense?

splitbrain··on Tell HN: Emmet, the HTML editing plugin, gets $100k/yr in donations from casinos
https://date-fns.org/ links to these "sponsors" with rel="noopener noreferrer" - how is that even worth anything to them?

Edit: nevermind, I mixed it up with rel="nofollow" which would be worthless to spammers.

splitbrain··on Tesla devs at Twitter misunderstand Slack privacy; leak fire lists based on LOC
Well, if I'd tell my employees to do something stupid, I'd expect them to tell me why it's a stupid idea. But I also wouldn't fire them for talking back to me...
splitbrain··on Get Blogging
Nice compilation. May I suggest my own project https://indieblog.page as an additional way to discover new blogs to read?
splitbrain··on Lychee – Self-hosted photo-management done right
This sounds like something I always wanted. But I can't really figure out if I understand correctly from your website. So could you please clarify: when I edit the keyword of a photo in your software, will this keyword be written back into the EXIF data of the original file? If so, you just got a new paying user.
splitbrain··on The end of the manual transmission is near?
All of them. It's called an airbag.
splitbrain··on Ask HN: Do you maintain a list of RSS links of GOAT blogs?
Shameless plug: https://indieblog.page allows you to discover new blogs through the power of randomness. (previously on discussed on hackernews)
splitbrain··on Node-Red 3.0 Released
Not OP, but I actually use it in home assistant. I manage all my integrations and dashboards with home assistant but automations are so much easier to do in nodered than HA. Installing nodered via HA's supervisor is a one click affair and it is automatically connected with all your devices.
splitbrain··on Ask HN: Where do you post your writing?
my own blog. for like 20 odd years now. https://www.splitbrain.org
splitbrain··on Turn Mouse Events into Art
Interesting how this idea resurfaces every few years again. I dabbled in it 12 years ago: https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2010-02/13-creating_art_by_d...
splitbrain··on Show HN: Discover the IndieWeb, one blog post at a time
Luckily MaxLeiter already did that for me: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30963947
splitbrain··on Show HN: Discover the IndieWeb, one blog post at a time
RSS Feeds added. I may tweak this in the coming days.
splitbrain··on Show HN: Discover the IndieWeb, one blog post at a time
Unfortunatly, it's currently heavily biased towards the HN crowd because of the sources I used to initially seed the list.
splitbrain··on Show HN: Discover the IndieWeb, one blog post at a time
You should get exactly that. It might take a few seconds as I try to find the RSS feed right away... Just try submitting again, it will tell you if the link is already in the submissions.
splitbrain··on Show HN: Discover the IndieWeb, one blog post at a time
That's an interesting idea. Would you expect one RSS item with let's say 5 links in the item body? Or 5 RSS items directly linking to the original post?
splitbrain··on An Ask HN analysis: How Hacker News users host and build their sites
excellent! thank you very much
