I really think that that this old guard mentality needs to die out. Rudeness is protected in the industry because we normalize that it's... what, intrinsic to programming? But that just isn't true, and it's harmful to everyone in the field.

You'll note that neither of them have any special display for reaching fast speeds (IE "incentivizing" driving over the speed limit), and that the first one even says "Don't snap and drive".

When it comes to the list of books I've read, I want to set it and forget it - and with a small upstart, there's always the worry that the maintainer will run out of money (or interest) and shut the service down. Sure, most of these book sites have import/export functionality, but why bother with that when Goodreads will likely be around for a long time?
