spikey_sanju··on HN: DunSocial – AI scheduler that learns your voice and writes your posts
Hey HN.

I built DunSocial because I kept ghosting my own social media. Had things to share but hated the process.

Every scheduler assumes you have content ready. I never did.

So I built one that writes for you. It learns how you talk. Remembers what you like, what you'd never say. Shows up with drafts. You tweak, schedule, done.

Built our own memory infra to make the voice learning work.

The memory part was the hard problem. Not just "tone: professional" dropdowns. Actually learning from how you write over time. Still early. Using it for my own stuff.

Would love feedback. dunsocial.com

spikey_sanju··on We log everything except the reason
Read Foundation Capital's essay on decision traces. Good insight, too many words. Made a simpler version with interactive examples
spikey_sanju··on Stop asking people how your design looks
Hey — if I could tell past-me one thing, Stop asking people how your design looks.

That question invites vague feedback from people who don’t use your thing. You want behavior. Friction. Patterns.

Wrote a short note to remind myself too!!!

What's your thoughts on this?

spikey_sanju··on AI Is Learning Taste
Hey folks, I wrote a short blog on something I’ve been thinking about—what happens when AI starts to understand taste?

Everyone talks about AI replacing coders and writers.

But what if the real shift is when it starts to replace taste?

spikey_sanju··on Stop Trying to Do It All, One Task Is Enough
Hey all, I explain in the blog how focusing on the most important task helps me move forward. I stopped multitasking and started making real progress.

spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Made up? Hardly. I hear you, but reality isn’t as tidy as a research paper. Planning only gets you so far; timing and luck do the rest. IYKYK!
spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Plans are guesses... treating them as facts is the real danger. Adapt as you learn, or they become traps.
spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
"It's too hard to change the plan now"

+1 Agreed. Plans fail when sticking to them matters more than adapting...

TBH, the best plans know when to shift.

Flexibility > Rigidity

spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
This is the whole point of the post...

Success rarely comes from what we aim for—it’s often about timing & flow. Perfection can hold us back, but staying open leads to breakthroughs.

Few irl examples:

1. Spend hours perfecting a video, 100 views. Post a raw clip, and it goes viral.

2. A polished product flops, but a scrappy weekend tool takes off.

3. A masterpiece gets ignored, but a casual sketch goes viral.

4. A failed dish turns into the next food trend.

Don’t wait for perfect. Keep creating, stay open, and let the unexpected happen.

P.S. Success is personal. But if you aim for something and it doesn’t happen, that’s a failure in that context.

spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Here are a couple of Reddit threads on accidental inventions. It’s wild how small, unexpected moments led to some of the biggest discoveries ever. Uncertainty has its own kind of magic—it can spark the best ideas.

- What is the best accidental invention?https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1cajrnr/what_is_...

spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Exactly. 'That's funny…' is when you realize you were looking at it wrong all along...
spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Yeah, I totally get it...

When you let things flow instead of sticking to a rigid plan, you end up finding better ideas. It’s like the pressure’s off, and the real work happens naturally. That freedom makes everything more productive ;)

spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Yeah, planning can feel like a trap sometimes. But take the example of the discovery of penicillin. It was a fluke... If the scientist had followed rigid steps, he might’ve missed that moment. Flexibility and being open to surprises is key.
spikey_sanju··on Why overplanning makes projects fail?
Why do some of our best ideas come out of nowhere? This post talks about how planning too much can kill creativity, and why greatness often shows up when you least expect it.
spikey_sanju··on Fli.so – A Beautiful, Self-Hosted URL Shortener for Businesses

spikey_sanju··on NotebookLM's automatically generated podcasts are surprisingly effective
I just scraped this HN comments & blog post, fed them to NotebookLLM, and BAM! This podcast was born. Mind blown.

https://x.com/spikeysanju/status/1840708506749399479

spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What have you built with LLMs?
I run a design studio. We make story maps a lot. It's a pain.

So I built a tool called Uiino. It lets you make story maps with plain text. Later, I added AI. Now it can generate maps instantly.

It's helped tons of people map out their apps. Gives them a clear bird eye view of their apps/flows.

Try → https://www.uiino.com (No signup required)

P.S. We just hit 10,000 website visitors. And 300+ monthly active users. It's all free. I'm pretty stoked about it.

spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: How do you manage your prompts in ChatGPT?
Simple. If you're using an Apple device, go to Settings → Keyboard → Text Replacement → Add Your Prompt.

For example,

Replace: !rw

With: "Rewrite this using simple words: {your_content}"

So, whenever I type "!rw", it replaces the text with "Rewrite this using simple words: {your_content}".

You don't need to switch between multiple tabs, use an extension, or refer to the documentation again and again.

spikey_sanju··on Serverless-registry: A Docker registry backed by Workers and R2
Interesting. Just wish it handled larger image layers a bit better!
spikey_sanju··on Don't Ask 'What to Learn,' Ask 'What to Build'
thanks. you make good points about learning & building. they do go hand in hand.

my main message is about finding your "why" first. why learn? why build? that's where motivation comes from.

i've seen too many folks burn out learning tech they don't care about. or building things that don't excite them.

start with what fires you up. the rest follows.

you're right - motivation is tricky. it comes and goes. but having a clear goal helps a ton when it dips!!!

spikey_sanju··on Don't Ask 'What to Learn,' Ask 'What to Build'
Don't start by asking 'what to learn.' It's the wrong approach. If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you get there?
spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What are you working on (August 2024)?
Hey all, I made Spotlight, a tool that helps you find interesting things from online sources like Reddit and Hacker News.

It's Open Source!

spikey_sanju··on Coolify’s rise to fame, and why it could be a big deal
We've been using Coolify to power all our products. It's a great tool for quickly starting new projects. We're very happy with it. We got our servers from Hetzner and we're not looking back.

spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: How many domain names do you own?
~65 domains. used only 8
spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What was your biggest startup fail?
I do the same thing! How do you find people who want your product before you make it? It's hard to get people to know about it without showing them something first.

What if I don't have any distribution or social followings?

P.S. I'm in the same boat.

spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What was your biggest startup fail?
That's rough. It's tough to work with someone who doesn't get it.
spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What was your biggest startup fail?
That's a tough pivot. So, you went from low-cost to high-touch, only to find a market that didn't scale? That's gotta sting. Did you consider a hybrid model or focusing on only one end???
spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What was your biggest startup fail?
7 months for a Python build? That's brutal. What was the root of the problem? Deps, codebase size, or something else?
spikey_sanju··on Ask HN: What was your biggest startup fail?
Why couldn't your partner sell? Was it 'cause they didn't know how, didn't want to, or something else?

What did you do different when you took over? (Just curious)
