sphix0r··on Show HN: IP Geolocation and Threat Data API
Have you thought how(or if) GDPR will affect your product?
sphix0r··on Ask HN: Weirdest hack that you ever saw in production?
Actually used the same "hack" years ago. Made an app for a friend where one could import photos and drag logos on top of the photo.

Making a screenshot was way easier and since I didn't had to spend time to figure out how to use the bitmap API and its edge cases. Especially large pictures on low end devices caused crashes.

sphix0r··on Show HN: Tech Companies That Won't Delete Your Information
Yes, and it will also give more insight in what and how they collect and process your data.

GDPR would be a nice "tool" to validate the actual deletion of personal data.

sphix0r··on OpenPGPjs v3.0
Great to see protonmail working on this.

It's shocking how much sensitive data is sent by mail (contracts, passwords, lawyers, etc..) without pgp signing / encryption on a daily basis.

sphix0r··on How not to run a CA
I'm referring to the communication (ePrivacy) not data / consent (GDPR).

> Link to Directive please?

I-scoop[0] explains it well. Do some digging in the documents[1] and you'll get the idea where it's heading to.

"Respect for the privacy of one’s communications is an essential dimension of this right, applying both to natural and legal persons. Confidentiality of electronic communications ensures that information exchanged between parties and the external elements of such communication, including when the information has been sent, from where, to whom, is not to be revealed to anyone other than to the parties involved in a communication. The principle of confidentiality should apply to current and future means of communication, including calls, internet access, instant messaging applications, e-mail, internet phone calls and personal messaging provided through social media." [1](page 6, article 7)

> (The reason I ask is that news reporting on EU law in English is extremely unreliable, and it's best to go to primary sources)

Completely agreed, it's a complete jungle of information and the source documents are hard to digest.

TLS = encryption TLS = authentication TLS = tamper proof

Ironically his blog isn't available on https. Would be time that browers mark http sites' address bar as "Not secure" in orange.

It's either secure or it isn't. Fun fact; Europe's ePrivacy law is coming next year which enforces all communication to be secure.

sphix0r··on Ask HN: I'm writing a book about white-collar drug use, including tech sector
I don't drink coffee but drink 1 to 3 bottles(0.5L each) of club-mate. It contains caffeine and is not well known to the general public but is in the Berlin techno and hacker scene.
sphix0r··on Ask HN: Is there server-side software that we are missing in 2018?
Before storing data we should have a good do not track / privacy respecting software for the data we store.
sphix0r··on OVH outage explained
Similar to many of us make backups in IT but how many actually do try them out and restore?
sphix0r··on No Bitcoin-based protocol can handle more than 20M users per month
When explaining bitcoin to non technical people I compare bitcoin for the to gold. Almost all non-tech people I know think bitcoin is the new next currency, I doubt it. Blockchain is currently hyped as currency, but it could solve many things related to trust, which is not only currency.

An other new technology to watch is IOTA ( https://iota.org ) not blockchain based, no fees and scalable.

sphix0r··on Ask HN: What are the best resources to learn computer vision?
OpenCV and http://www.pyimagesearch.com/

disclaimer: not related to any of these

I can recommend Ignite ( https://github.com/infinitered/ignite ) as well, has some scaffolding capabilities.
sphix0r··on Ask HN: How did you learn about stocks and the market?
Interesting. Do you have a link to his book / paper back then?
sphix0r··on The OnePlus 2 pushes the boundaries of how cheap a flagship phone can be
It's cheap for what you get. Try comparing it to an iPhone, specs and price.
