This is designed to allow owners to drive through a wildfire, for example, and in testing has performed quite well.
I would love to see a video of testing the scenario discussed here. Enclosed tunnel with poor ventilation and fire safety equipment, the car in front of you catches fire, can you just sit there perfectly fine?
All that combined meant for those that didn't have an immediate need, it was effectively like getting a small bonus from work - putting it in savings or an investment made a lot of sense. I also know several friends that were only able to pay rent or bills because of it.
That is different than if people who need it were given a base source of income that was predictable and long term. I don't think it would just dump into savings then - it would get spent on a new car, or rent, or to pay off debts.
Specifically though, I have struggled with the fact that many "third places" in my city are breweries - there isn't anywhere to go if you want a large, well maintained outdoor space with seating areas, that also has food and drink options, but that isn't a restaurant looking to turn over tables.
A good NA brewing space could provide the casual "come hang out with your friends/kids" third place that a good brewery does, while catering to those looking to reduce alcohol intake or those that don't drink.
It seems Axiom has been focused on a suit for Artemis interior and moon operations while Collins was specifically developing one for in-orbit EVAs, which is a separate beast.
Assuming they hand full reigns to Axiom, congrats to that team! But it does seem likely this means delays, as they now have to develop an additional suit for an additional and distinct use case. Good time to be job hunting in this field, perhaps.
For those interested, Cleo Abrams recently put out a great video testing an Axiom prototype and discussing many of the design challenges being worked on with the Axiom team.
The ISS has been a beautiful international collaboration for decades and it'll be a shame to see it gone.
I'll be kicking myself for life for that, but I also have to remind myself that if I had held onto those worthless coins worth fractions of a penny, I almost certainly would have cashed out well before they were at their peak value, and spent them on a pizza or some darknet weed or something else dumb. This at least helps me cope with knowing what could have been...
Like how do you move a satellite or satellites to a certain area, at the right time, avoiding other space objects, and then keep them there for 45 minutes during the mission or at least 15 minutes during the blackout zone. I'm sure it takes a huge amount of planning, math, coordination with various entities....
Optimum has reviewed some higher refresh rate monitors recently and provides some examples of where they can still give an advantage, not necessarily in reaction time but in smoothness and clarity in fast scenes. Here's a good example with a 540Hz display: https://youtu.be/nqa7QVwfu7s
One advantage in the market that is overlooked in this type of "do we need X" challenge is the increased accessibility of things less than X. For example productivity monitors at 120, 144, even 240Hz are more affordable and easier to find, as panel production becomes cheaper and the gaming brands push the marketing numbers up and up. New 480/540Hz monitors cost what a 144Hz monitor cost ten years ago.
It does make me wonder how such a relationship could impact progress. Would OpenAI feel limited from advancing in directions that don't align with the partnership? For example if they suddenly release a model better than what's in Siri, making Siri look bad.
...While still delivering their own flavor of burnt junk, relative to the multitudes of third wave shops that have grown and thrived out of the category that Starbucks created.
So yes, the current version of Starbucks may be ridiculous, but the culture wave it led is a key reason every town or block is able to sustain a passionate small cafe or roastery.
Same guy that made sponsorblock; crowdsourced titles and thumbnails. Tends to have good coverage on anything reasonably popular. Also has features to reduce the clickbaitiness of videos that haven't had someone submit better titles/thumbnails.
there's also a big difference between "one guy supposedly stealing one thing as a part of a story" and "let's all go steal"
A good barista is already doing this in their head, and also building and maintaining a human relationship with those customers.
Part of the appeal of a good coffee shop to is that it feels like a friendly place to spend time with people you know, and it makes it feel special when you've got that one place where everyone knows who you are and how you like your coffee. Coffee being an important daily ritual for many builds this shared understanding and empathy around the craft - I'm here because you know this specific subset of me intimately and I can get something valuable that isn't just "the screen says your name is X and your drink is Y is that right?"
I played a single Christmas album from an artist that my mom wanted to hear over the holidays, but I don't like that artist or style of music otherwise.
Now, every time they release a new song it comes up in my release radar, and random similar things pollute my discover weekly.
There's no way to say "never recommend this to me" or to remove past listens from my history. I'm just forever doomed, apparently, to get jumpscared with Christian contemporary music anytime I try to play these playlists.
Here's their intro article on the idea, which is only the tip of a massive iceberg: https://slimemoldtimemold.com/2023/01/05/n1-introduction/
One has a self checkout that lets you bag your items however you want, has a wireless scanner for scanning at your convenience, and just has one polite attendant monitoring to help with issues or enter birthdate for alcohol.
The other has one that screams at you about unidentified items in the bagging area if you so much as look in its direction, and cameras jammed in your face with a screen wrapped in white LEDs to make it obvious you're being recorded.
Guess where I prefer to shop :-)
I don't subscribe to those features or any AI tool yet, just pointing out there could be a version of Kagi that is able to replace your Chatgpt sub and save you money
Both seem to require way too much effort to get a good feed together, though, and neither has artifact's killer AI clickbait replacement feature.
