sparkling··on Figma restricts MCP access to whitelisted clients, excluding Pi
We need to fake User-Agent now for our MCP clients? Could have just sticked to plain old HTTP then ;)
sparkling··on Grok 4.7
Yes, but with subpar caching and higher cached token pricing, compared to directly using the DeepSeek platform.
sparkling··on Grok 4.7
I am using exactly the same flow.

Astra for deep dive investigations, Sol 5.6 at mid-level for day to day tasks, Grok 4.6 via Cursor for routine and low complexity tasks.

sparkling··on If AI coding is lowering your code quality, you're not managing quality right
You can have all the measures in place that are described in that post, and your code can still be bad. High unit test coverage tells you exactly zero about the solution itself.

And technical quality gates do not help if the human side lacks defense against slop code. If you don't have the right managers in place, the 2 years of experience vibecoder who ships a feature in 4 hours will always win against the 20+ year senior who actually looks at the code he is about to ship.

sparkling··on Rate limits on GitLab.com are changing
I noticed that recently Github.com has some kind of weird bot detection on public repos. I have a browser extension for switching User Agents for a specific legacy site, sometimes i forget to turn it off and Github will require me to login to view public repos.

All of this is most likely due to mass scraping by LLMs. Welcome to the total shitification of the web.

sparkling··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
Most likely, their own data residency terms prohibit this. It would be interesting to know if, when 2 out of 3 AZs got destroyed, customers got a heads up to move their data to a different region?
sparkling··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
If a AWS customer chooses to store their data in a single AZ, that is a design choice. AWS is not taking a daily copy of a entire regions S3 cluster and driving it to some warehouse for a "just in case" situation. That is why Multi-AZ exists.
sparkling··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
He forgot to add "if it's Multi-AZ" ;)
sparkling··on Salesforce Global Outage
Remind me please, what are folks currently paying per seat for this glorified CRUD app?
sparkling··on OpenAI bots knew about the RubyGems caching vulnerability
Or the victims have no incentive to do so, such as in the Hugging Face case.
sparkling··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Apart from the AI chain, who is benefiting from the explosion of vibecoded slop project?

I can think of domain registrars and entry-level VPS hosters (non-Hyperscaler)

Who else? Asking from a investment perspective.

sparkling··on Flock cameras used to arrest a child for playing on a swing?
No mention of Flock anywhere in the text
sparkling··on Norton Neo Browser
100%. Anything with the name "Norton" is burned for me. This goes back to uninstallable Software around Windows XP era.
sparkling··on iPhone Duo
$2800 in most of Europe

yeah, insane.

sparkling··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
Bunny is the MVP among these European alternatives. It's not just a CDN, it offers Cloudflare-style Edge scripting, Edge workers, databases (Sqlite compatible) etc.
sparkling··on Germany Power Grid Sabotage: Launch Devices Found Near Weisweiler Plant
It seems you know more than the police does. I suggest you provide your highly valuable information to the investigators.
sparkling··on Germany Power Grid Sabotage: Launch Devices Found Near Weisweiler Plant
Actually, the police is looking for known suspect (German) that is believed to be a "climate extremist".
sparkling··on The purpose of DNS is to spread scams
The (refundable) escrow payment would indeed be a possible solution.

I feel to some degree governments are also responsible for this, by not making consistent use of *.gov domains.

Take for example sunbiz.org, the Florida business register. For 20+ years sunbiz.org was the official domain, until they switched to dos.fl.gov in 2023. The average joe may have heard about "Sunbiz", but was the domain sunbiz.com, sub.biz, sunbiz.net ... who knows?? How would anyone know? All of this could have been avoided by using *.gov everywhere in the first place.

sparkling··on [dead]
Feels this another fake "research institute" website used for astroturfing and influencing LLM results.

sparkling··on AI Escape Incident Tracker
Ah, the beautiful beige slop with unreadable contrasts.
sparkling··on Show HN: I wrote a guide to rendering video from plain HTML/CSS/GSAP
Yeah lil bro, the times where you could charge $20 for some coding snippet ended about 20 years ago.
sparkling··on Nitter and XCancel resume service after legal advice
So X(.ai) can scrape the entire web, but nobody can scrape X. Makes sense.
sparkling··on The "$60 Gaming PC" – AMD BC-250 (2025)
Site (Wordpress) seems to have gotten the HN kiss of death
sparkling··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
The 9€/mo price point seems weird, considering its "just" static hosting and i can get a decently sized VPS for that money (yes, also from a EU host).
sparkling··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
>So you're supposed to block VPNs as well? What's next, Tor exit nodes? New VPN and Tor nodes as they pop up?

Trivial to do nowadays: https://focsec.com/

>I really don't like where this is going.

German courts think the internet revolves around German laws. There are some really insane cases, sometimes they will consider a website to fall under German jurisdiction simply for having a German-language version (somehow ignoring that Austria and Switzerland exist, ignoring German-speaking minorities in other countries, ignoring that a fully automated translation in 100+ languages is now possible at the click of a button).

sparkling··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
Several (European) alternatives are available: https://eualternative.eu/categories/public-dns/
sparkling··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
It seems "AEO" is the preferred term in the US, while Europe loves "GEO".
sparkling··on Router by Ramp
>InnovationHQ.com

Their site is a totally blank HTML page, it seems?

sparkling··on Router by Ramp
Domains investors (or squatters, as one may call them) have been around since the beginning of domains.
sparkling··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Middleman company buying middleman company. Makes sense.
