spark3k··on Nuclear power must be well regulated, not ditched
Even when we think things can't go wrong, and we think that we've thought of all the ways they could go wrong if they did, they still manage to go wrong. Everything goes wrong. Why do we need to pick a mind-bogglingly expensive technology where going wrong means catastrophe?

You can set your watch by the regularity at which the nuclear lobbies throw a "for the sake of climate change" article in a respected publication.

spark3k··on Beyond Meat signs global supply deals with McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut
Your argument starts from the premise that just because you have a goal, method and precedent you can continue to justify industrialised cruelty.
spark3k··on Beyond Meat signs global supply deals with McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut
It's definitely bad for the health of the cow.

I don't understand when farmers say they "love their cattle" but then industriously kill them at 12% of their normal lifespan. And repeat. In millions.

The meat lobby really has a grip on the culture and identity of the animal consuming public.

spark3k··on Github1s – One second to read GitHub code with VS Code
This is brilliant. Should be a core part of GitHub
spark3k··on Multiway Turing Machines
I speak for many readers when I say: "What?"
spark3k··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
Is there a way to follow your progress?
spark3k··on Ask HN: Systemically, what should be added or removed for a better democracy?
Remove: Parties. Law and governance is nuanced and shouldn't be reduced to black and white issues.

Remove: Disproportionate representation. One vote should count as much as any other vote from anywhere in the country.

Remove: Politics is popularity contests and soundbites for fame. Remove this by allowing people to assign their votes to experts by proxy.

Remove: Ban lobbyists and lobby groups.

Remove: Ban anyone in government from holding financial interests in anything.

Add: Digitally secure elections. Somehow.

spark3k··on Ask HN: Where Is Jack Ma?
“Definitely not in a re-education camp”
spark3k··on Show HN: AI-powered landing page builder
I don't think there's any forum more resistant to seeing the inevitable application of technology than this one.
spark3k··on Show HN: AI-powered landing page builder
Looks awesome. Machine and human working together. Inevitable anyway. Machine provides the bulk and human tweaks and polishes.
spark3k··on Show HN: Canonic: A low-code platform to build APIs in minutes
Seems like Hasura is picking up legitimate competition
spark3k··on We Need a Nuclear New Deal, Not a Green New Deal
My Airbnb host is a full time nuclear engineer and even he doesn’t back the technology. “Too risky”
spark3k··on Deno 1.4
What’s the killer feature that will lead to node developers switching over in droves?
spark3k··on Ask HN: What's the best way to detect whether a road is jammed?
Thanks. I'm going to definitely try this route.
spark3k··on Ask HN: What's the best way to detect whether a road is jammed?
Thanks for the suggestion :) The is kind of semi dirt and blends with its surroundings though. I will keep this in mind as an augmentation maybe.
spark3k··on Dead sperm whale found in Indonesia had ingested '6kg of plastic'
That's a plastic shopping bag. Try swallowing a plastic shopping bag.
spark3k··on Where the 'No Ending a Sentence with a Preposition' Rule Comes From
Even if this article exists just to make the headline possible I'm ok with that.
spark3k··on Ask HN: Native vs. React Native vs. Flutter
What's the app?
spark3k··on Police broke into Chelsea Manning’s home with guns drawn in a “Wellness Check”
Way to completely miss the point.

You're saying the appropriate action for someone assumed to be likely to harm themselves is a show of deadly force?

Brilliant. Well you have the society you want.

spark3k··on The Students Who Discovered Dieselgate
This article is written badly. Especially the ending with regards to how real world testing and lab testing revealed the dupe there is hardly any revealing connection.
spark3k··on Show HN: 100M Books – Open a new tab, discover a new book
I don't know what could be more distracting in a work day than this. :/
spark3k··on UberData: Designing with Real Data in Photoshop

spark3k··on Ask HN: Apple's lightning headphone jack. What's the game plan here?
Do you think that they'll never add lightning to Macs?
spark3k··on Show HN: Automatic private time tracking for OS X
Timecamp have been at this for a while now. With syncing to project management apps.
spark3k··on The inside story of how Amazon created Echo
Jeff Bezos' marketing arm at it again. Notice that the Tesla Model 3 was the hottest news of the weekend and only got a tiny Business Insider article?
spark3k··on Asana
As a long time, 'power' Asana user I can confidently say that it's a good task list manager and nothing more. "Project Management", or rather, at a higher level, "Work", is much more than a dynamic, shared, list of tasks.

Asana has tried to create the killer app, the email beating, unified metaphor for project management and... it's not enough. I would not have invested without a very promising roadmap.

spark3k··on Layers – A simple WordPress site builder
Each widget occupies one whole row by itself. The bundled Content widget can generate columns and can't accept other widgets into one of its columns. Might be a future feature tho...
spark3k··on Spritz – read 500 words per minute without any training
I think this is awesome and would benefit from a few extra options:

• Up to 5 words in a flash. (Still centered using their technique) Because true speed reading doesn't take in each individual word, rather groups of words at each eye saccade stop.

• Pause / fine rate control.

• Image placeholder indication & image pause.

• Fine and course scrubbing revealing the position in a traditional section of text.

• Chapter / break markers

• User settings profiles.

• Bonus: blink / look-away detection.

I think it has massive potential!
