spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: Things to Do on My Phone
What do you use anki for?
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: What do you use for logging and monitoring a small SaaS project?
AppSignal looks like but the price is a little steep for a small saas that is hosted on a single vps
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: What do you use for logging and monitoring a small SaaS project?
Datadog's free trial is really limited although i am a fan of Datadog. Probably because i use Datadog at work. On the other hand Datadog is really expensive for a side project.

Newrelic's free plan is nice. Didn't know about Grafana cloud. Looks really generous.

spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: Which stack is as boring (good boring) and cheap in 2023 as PHP?
Which webhost do you use? And is it easy to run queues and schedulers on these webhosts?
spacesarebetter··on Welcome Home, Garry Tan
Are you going to continue with your youtube channel? I hope you do, learned so many things from that channel
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN? Which tech stacks are popular in China?
Yes, that is one of the things i have noticed. I think the reason is that they have a really good documentation in chinese
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: How does Levels handle so much negative PR for NomadList?
I have personally encountered bugs on it. Not minor ones, but the page is giving a random php error.

He still uses sqlite and proud of it. Nothing wrong with it. But at least invest some money in system design as you grow.

spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: Cheaper Heroku alternatives for Rails apps?
AWS app runner is definitely not cheap
spacesarebetter··on Japanese Company Charges Its Staff $100 an Hour to Use Conference Rooms
Really interesting article. This actually seems like a really smart move but only in short term. In the long term, they will definitely suffer because the employees will take poor decisions in order to complete in the cut throat environment and high turn over. Perfect example of this approach is GE. They started implementing something like this in 90s and in 2000 it was one of the most valued companies. By late 2000s GE was completely ruined. It is not even a Fortune 500 anymore.
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: Best architecture for offline-first, cloud-synced mobile app?
I just leave this link here. Quip is one of my favorite offline-first cross-platform app. They use leveldb (realm is also based on leveldb) on the client and use mysql on the server. Protocol buffers are used for communication although thats just a communication method.

spacesarebetter··on OOP Is Dead, Long Live OOP
and the website is dead as well
spacesarebetter··on Why do Google webapps use so many iframes (and web workers)?
Probably because different teams are working on different pieces of the application. Spotify does this as well. They have multiple iframes where each team responsible for the iframe. This makes loading external libraries easy.
spacesarebetter··on Show HN: I made a tool that made me faster at Git
To be honest, they try to compete with souretree and git tower but they are there is a huge difference in the performance since GitKraken is made on electron and really slow when looking at large diffs.

I am a long time git tower user, and i have given GitKraken more than a few shots. I always go back to a hybrid command line and git tower workflow

spacesarebetter··on Django 2.1 released
I have been using symfony since the 2-3 years because the product is build on symfony. Now i like symfony, because i’m not a big fan of PHP. Anybody knows how Django compares to Symfony. I have glanced through Django documentation few times and it look a little similiar. If somebody has used both frameworks, what are the main advantages of Django over Symfony?
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: What tech stack do you use at work?
Thanks for sharing. I have not used node is production environment but I have definitely played around with it. How has been your experience? What kind of scale are you operating on
spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: What service are you willing to provide for $1?
You can talk to me for 1 minute. I'm great listener.
spacesarebetter··on Google is rebranding storage plans as “Google One”
One of the reasons i prefer an independent storage service is because i don't want to have everything in one basket. I use Google for Gmail and Photos. I would rather keep my files with someone else. e.g like Dropbox or iCloud.

The downside is that Dropbox is expensive although it blows all the storage companies in terms of features and stability while icloud is too basic.

spacesarebetter··on Ask HN: What would you invest in if you were the CEO of Apple?
The least he can do is hire a small team and rewrite iTunes. It's such a PITA, and there is no web client. Tried Apple music 3 times only to return to Spotify.
