spacecadet··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
To all the top comments making analogies about destroying jobs; horses, buggies, calculators... what?! You are awful people. We're not talking about shit jobs, these are peoples creative passions, livelihoods, and life long careers. It looks like OpenAI had nothing to fear. Fuck you.
spacecadet··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
All of these "details" leave out the truth and most important details. The inputs from humans that actually kicked this off.
spacecadet··on The "Windows XP Box" (2003)
Reminds me of running good old TinyXP.
spacecadet··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Incoming laughing man future.
spacecadet··on Silicon Valley is in denial in face of widespread backlash
Sure, why not pick idiocracy. You miss the point. People now cannot predict the future, all analogs are simultaneously possible and unlikely. Pick any event we have experienced, 9/11, COVID. Sure, some predictions were close, but nothing like the reality of living through it.
spacecadet··on Silicon Valley is in denial in face of widespread backlash
Well even 40k spent 20k years living like the jetsons... There are no analogs for our future. That's one of the core problems here, you have powerful individuals who identify with and aspire to sci-fi, while living in denial of reality. I would argue someone like Musk is more blue pilled and in the Matrix than they think they are...
spacecadet··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
It's a skill issue... governance and culture skills. Doesn't matter at this point what model you use... a thoughtful harness with appropriate levels of HITL and strong security, governance, discipline. "We" have a very successful dark factory running... no I cant tell you about it. It's trade secrets at this point. It was incredibly hard to build, roll out, and maintain.

People have no idea that 2 years ago we hit peak performance with omni models. We won competitions with GPT-4o-mini, mini... it does not matter. Context matters. Discipline matters. Observability matters. Most of all, PEOPLE matter.

All of the fools who tried this and laid people off. Fools. It's about empowering your team, making their lives easier, less frustrating, and higher impact.

spacecadet··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
20 years ago when I use to instruct a 101 class on programming, in the first 2 weeks, I made everyone write simple programs with paper and pencil. Students thought that was insane, I would catch them mocking it. I always had the last laugh... those who took it seriously always performed the best and went on to have more successful careers.
spacecadet··on It's getting harder to focus every day
idk discipline? try retraining your brain on non-digital activities. Pick a long running non-digital activity and gitrdone.

The whole thing originated years ago to see what LLMs were capable of. Just spent a chunk of my Fable access hacking away at it. Is it intended to be 100% realistic, no. Its more art, tho I do try to lean into physics...

spacecadet··on We Have Learned Nothing
You all are being idiots. Im done. There is so much nuance to all of this that I did not include. Key words are Flattened by Regulation... Have you ever read a damn rule book? Stock, improved, modified, class, my god.

Good bye, never again. Hacker news is a lost cause.

Signing out.

spacecadet··on We Have Learned Nothing
Oh really?! I said my statement was oversimplified. Not all groups have the same requirements. NASA Spec is very regulated for instance... But I knew a comment like this was coming, so as someone who grew up with a family race team, has a race car, and builds a motorsports app. Shut up.

My eyes being rolling faster than my crank...

spacecadet··on A sufficiently detailed spec is code
Writing code doesn't reliably work... However, as we converge toward a more collaborative development environment, code is more important than ever. Testing, sales, etc. more important than ever. Security... more important them ever.

Or everything will converge toward a rust like inference optimized gibberish...

spacecadet··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
There we go, gluten for punishment, you spiteful nerds.
spacecadet··on We Have Learned Nothing
Racing competition is flattened through regulation(oversimplified). All drivers have the same car. Drivers skill and fearlessness is the deciding factor.

I came here to basically say this about running a company- but your comment was a better launching point.

As someone who has run several companies over the last 25 years and has read and or tried nearly ever "method" mentioned... Im now running a company where Im abandoning everything and just going at with skill and fearlessness... and no funding. It feels freeing, and we are growing.

spacecadet··on Ask HN: How do you deal with people who trust LLMs?
Introduce them to jailbroke LLMs.
spacecadet··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
Oh now this gets up votes? Few weeks ago nothing but down votes. I guess I'll see you babies at the raid on the OpenAI data center?
spacecadet··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
As I said, from AGI to IPO and everyone will forget and move on.
spacecadet··on The 100 hour gap between a vibecoded prototype and a working product
unlikely, people tend to assume wrong about me... as an outlier and all...
spacecadet··on The 100 hour gap between a vibecoded prototype and a working product
No. I no longer believe in VC or PE. Evils that hurt society more then benefit...
spacecadet··on The 100 hour gap between a vibecoded prototype and a working product
I realize this sounds one sided. Ive also founded companies and worked across the range of startup to faang. Everything has changed... For the better if you ask me.
spacecadet··on The 100 hour gap between a vibecoded prototype and a working product
Do you have a race car or race team? Happy to onboard you, otherwise, not here.
spacecadet··on The 100 hour gap between a vibecoded prototype and a working product
Im an 20 year veteran of application development consulting. Contributor level... not talking head. I do more estimating than anyone you likely know. Consulting is cooked. I just AI native built (not vibe coding...) an application with a buddy, another Principal level engineer and what would cost a client 500-750k and 8-12 weeks, we did for $200 and 1 sprint. Its a passion project but highly complex mapping and navigation app with host/client multi-user sync'd state. Cooked.

Classic hacker news comment mate.

Your system sounds great to me, curious what you have going on!

spacecadet··on RAM kits are now sold with one fake RAM stick alongside a real one
Not bragging, but I lucked out... Upgraded to 192 and 10tb of M2 SSD's last year and its the first time in my life my workstation has appreciated...
spacecadet··on RAM kits are now sold with one fake RAM stick alongside a real one
Many kit builders with flashy PCs are only running 32gb. If you look at datasets like Steams, most people are still on 16 and 32. Hell 4% are still on 8!

spacecadet··on Human Rights Watch says drone strikes in Haiti have killed nearly 1,250 people
People don't think anymore, they just react... Im pretty sure Im done engaging on this platform for that reason. Nearly every comment is met by some crass remark that clearly demonstrates the person didn't actually understand the comment, just reacted to the trigger words within it.
