Adjusted.
Next performance review I was told I socialized too much :)
A lot of managers are busy and just throw something together at the last minute, subordinates realize the process is just a formality and stop putting much effort into it as time goes on, etc. Sometimes these meetings are actually counter productive because you end up arguing for a tiny slice of the bonus pie having to "sell" yourself to an individual who knows well what you have contributed. I have witnessed multiple people quitting shortly after feeling underappeciated in a performance review.
This really resonated with me. As a child I use to eat my food "in order", saving the best part for last. Now I'm thinking about all the instances where I've delayed gratication in my life. I've always saved money at an above average rate but never really made this connection before.
I wonder if having Amazon on your resume is a bad signal now. Risk of the candidate being a participant in a toxic environment. Also a signal that the candidate was at Amazon because they couldn't get into other FAANGs (is it common for people to select Amazon over others when holding multiple offers?)
If you are comfortable earning what you earn because of the work you do I get it. I looked into working for research universities in the past like UPenn because I'd be working in say cancer research, etc. I get it.
Comunication while coding seems to be a big deal during interviews now so if you just started coded after hearing the problem I could see that being a negative.
For people with that experience it makes sense to just separate the student from the parents but I'm not sure how to fairly account for people with rich parents who contribute. Just make college affordable for everyone!
