sourcecodeplz··on Google refused to change search results, 'hurt the feelings' of Hong Kong
Quite the interesting read.
sourcecodeplz··on SpaceX is offering to sell insider shares
$77 per share.
sourcecodeplz··on There is no longer an option to watch “All” videos on YouTube
I don't like this. Used to get great info when finding a new channel and checking out how it started.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Is Twitter worth more or less $$$ since Musk bought it?
Difficult to say. Some people left but others have replaced them, maybe 10fold. I think it really pushed some who had old accounts or no accounts at all to start using it.

The Musk hype factor is real.

sourcecodeplz··on OpenAI will watermark AI generated text
I tried warning users here that it's not a good idea to use the outputs for commercial purposes like writing books.

Private company OpenAI, never know when or what they might do next with the generated text.

sourcecodeplz··on Is Dark Mode Good for Your Eyes? (2020)
I personally also keep the warm light display setting ON all the time: day or night.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Should HN ban ChatGPT/generated responses?
There were these programming challenges to make the program run with as little lines of code as possible.

I see comments as the same, chatgtp can't do that.

sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses? (2022)
> I tried writing books too.

What happened with that?

sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses? (2022)
I've been thinking about this myself as well. With the advent of ChatGTP, competition is going to be much tougher for just content sites imho.
sourcecodeplz··on The Hype Around eSports Is Fading as Investors and Sponsors Dry Up
Arabia spent $1b to buy ESL & Faceit (the major tourney organizers). Sponsors not really needed imho.
sourcecodeplz··on Adventures in Teletext Recovery
I enjoyed this before the Internet. You had tv-schedules, news, horoscope and some other things too.
sourcecodeplz··on Tell HN: Tired of Hearing about ChatGPT
I considered that too but weighted with the possibility of openai claiming copyright on the text, I decided against it.
sourcecodeplz··on Tell HN: Tired of Hearing about ChatGPT
I am tired too but it's amazing.
sourcecodeplz··on AI Homework
Not to mention when Google first started showing specific snippets for queries that could be answered with a sentence. People were up in arms that Google is stealing their content.

Come today and people seem to not mind so much. Is the same thing? Maybe not but it does look similar to me.

sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: I get married on Saturday, what advice do you have?
Don't drink too much.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: How old is your current PC/Laptop?
The G's from Intel have always been a bang for the buck, esp. single core perf. I got an AMD now for that $200 (Athlon 3000G).

I know 10 years is hard to believe, but I just use a text editor and the browser for my work. I do front-end mostly with a focus on CSS.

sourcecodeplz··on Talk to Books
I like this, it's kind of like the passages (answers) you get when searching on Google but from books.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: How do you overcome feeling completely lost in life?
You can get a pet to start, a fish-tank is super-low maintenance and quite nice and distracting when you need it to be.

Make a routine where you get out of the house and go buy a newspaper. Then read it on a bench somewhere.

Start with these two.

sourcecodeplz··on Adjusting pricing, introducing annual plans, and accelerating innovation
About time.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: How old is your current PC/Laptop?
No need to be edgy.

The reason I posted this is because I was reading a post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33766878) here the other day where the person talked about optimizing web page sizes at some Google service. As soon as they reduced the page size significantly, they've noticed an influx of visitors from Africa. That was about bandwidth.

This is about processing power.

sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: How do you save web articles for later reading?
I post them on my blog and use labels. Sometimes I'll also write a short description.
sourcecodeplz··on Who Controls the Internet? Authoritative NS Records in gTLDs
- CISCO / Juniper -- AWS --- Cloudflare
sourcecodeplz··on Show HN: A userscript that adds archive URLs below the paywalled HN submissions
I agree and did not in the past. It's easy to see and judge things from just one convenient/aligned perspective...
sourcecodeplz··on Tell HN: Elon Musk Removes Login Prompt for Twitter
Of course it is. Geez.
sourcecodeplz··on The modern web on a slow connection
Nice writeup. I've especially enjoyed the part about the site becoming popular in Africa after the optimization.
sourcecodeplz··on FreeTube – A Private YouTube Client
I don't mind Youtube making a profile of me and recommending similar things. But then again I use youtube to watch channels I'm subscribed to and maybe once a week I watch the recommended stuff.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: What's your best clean code tip?
I like to sort CSS properties alphabetically.

#header { background: grey; color: white; display: block; font-size: 12px; }

sourcecodeplz··on How is Japanese web design different?
Looking at the websites mentioned in the randomwire article, those popular websites are not like this article portrays them to be anymore, imho.
sourcecodeplz··on Ask HN: What are some blog posts that you have enjoyed going through?
Almost each of his blog posts could have easily been made into a small book. Though his animations (canvas) would not have the same effect on paper/kindle obliviously.

It's a great resource and kind of answers one of yesterdays question about posting consistent vs posting quality.

Out of curiosity I googled "mechanical watch explained" and what do you know, he is the second result.

sourcecodeplz··on Yahoo Pipes
Are you referring to Zapier & IFTTT?

I find them quite limited but I understand the need and also that not everyone can parse a structured response. It's nice that they have free versions though.

Although more complicated to use but also free, I get a lot more functionality from PythonAnywhere, Cloudflare Workers or Oracle Cloud free tier.
