soupbowl··on Omarchy Is Not A Distro
The DHH haters seem incapable of explaining why they are offended by sponsorship from CloudFlare for a project they do not want to use.
soupbowl··on Omarchy Is Not A Distro
This is a little cringe, it's fine you don't like it, dont use it. There have been other distros based on arch which are also mostly just rices. I've never seen people complain about them, but Omarchy is different, probably because DHH is involved.

I tried Omarchy and thought it was decent, I liked a lot of the settings and visuals.

soupbowl··on Alberta to hold referendum on whether to remain in Canada
It is certainly a 'thing'. Saying it is not just shows your ignorance.
soupbowl··on A nicer voltmeter clock
Nice work, looks cool!
soupbowl··on You gave me a u32. I gave you root. (io_uring ZCRX freelist LPE)
I am pretty sure that Flatpak does 'not' do a good job when it comes to sandboxing, maybe one day.
soupbowl··on IPv6 is the only way forward
I use ULAs since my ISP changed my ipv6 prefix twice a month. What I learned is that ipv6 configuration usually requires a more 'comerical grade' router. In the end it works well for me but getting it setup initially took a lot of effort. Easy to do the second time though.

I later moved and my current ISP does not have ipv6 support but my ULA setup kept working fine with some minor tweaks.

Windows 11 on 4gb of ram? I doubt it unless they are in hell and that is their eternal torture.
soupbowl··on Oh, good: Discord's age verification rollout has ties to Palantir co-founder
I like matrix and use it but it is no where near a Discord replacement. Setting up the modern Matrix auth and call are not easy and its just not as good or easy as Discord.
soupbowl··on Gnome and Mozilla Discuss Proposal to Disable Middle Mouse Paste on Linux
Yeah, the primary selection 'bug' is incredibly annoying, drives me nuts.
soupbowl··on Immutable Software Deploys Using ZFS Jails on FreeBSD
It already is, if you use most jail managers, this post is a manual approach.
soupbowl··on Immutable Software Deploys Using ZFS Jails on FreeBSD
This is more like making an immutable linux container using only OS base tools. Docker is a whole stack doing the work for you.
soupbowl··on Immutable Software Deploys Using ZFS Jails on FreeBSD
For those unfamiliar with FreeBSD, this is using base OS tools to manually create this type of immutable jail/container. This can be done with 'less effort' by using a jail manager.
soupbowl··on Wireguard FPGA
This is a very cool project! I had never heard of SystemVerilog until today.

soupbowl··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
Ah yes... he wanted all homosexuals murdered[citation needed]. Good thing the good guys killed him eh?
soupbowl··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
People that don't like Charlie don't need to have sympathy for him, but not having sympathy and being douche bags in mass is something totally different.

"I can't stand the word empathy, actually," he continued. "I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage. But, it is very effective when it comes to politics. Sympathy, I prefer more than empathy. That's a separate topic for a different time."

soupbowl··on Bluesky Isn't Celebrating the Death of Charlie Kirk
Uhh, last night mastadon and bluesky were full of cheering after his death. You did not look very hard, the rest of the internet is taking screenshots and naming people doing it, you can easily find this with minor effort.

soupbowl··on U.S. plans to rescind rule blocking logging on national forest lands
Some old growth forest are susceptible to fur beetles which can destroy large areas of forest. In large fur forests you can easily do small select cutting in early spring to attract the beetles, in late spring you cut the tress and haul them out and the bugs get cooked in a kiln saving many trees.

Select logging is select logging, clear cuts is clear cuts. In general you cannot clear cut anymore, there are so many restrictions that guarantee trees are left standing. Wild life tree patches are required, bird trees, zones between water ways have to have a tree buffer zone. That does not include if you find a bear den, eagle nest or other similar things. You will be required to leave a large swath of trees around those areas.

If you have ever been around clear cuts or even select logging areas you will see a lot of wild life. It is much easier to see moose and deer around logging blocks. Lazy hunters often go to those areas to specifically hunt which is why a lot of logging roads these days are deactivated back to nature.

soupbowl··on U.S. plans to rescind rule blocking logging on national forest lands
I have a done select logging in Canada for fire and bug control reasons. It can be done, the results were always great looking and also heavily reduced fuel for fires.

Forests need management it is simple, we let mother nature do it with fire or humans need to step up.

I was heavily protested in Canada while doing this, it was impossible to talk to protestors about why the thinning was needed.
