sorrow··on Ask HN: What industry needs technical innovation?
Thinking that doctors could be scared that their job looks easy makes me not only excited but all more hungry for this sort of software. This is the same thing labor said as it was mechanized. All sorts of other fields that changed to be technology reliant are the same. The idea that medicine could become "easy" could change this world maybe. Medicine becoming a job for more and more spread out is exciting to me. I hope we can make physicians near obsolete and direct professionals at research to better medicine.

The medical industry needs (good) software that helps with diagnosis. This covers mental health also.

You have symptoms of problem and it helps narrow down. Need a massive database of all known diseases as well as symptoms / remedies. Chart location data for origin of specific disease, (less likely to be rabies if Australia etc) and probability from all factors.

Would require huge amounts of data as well as many man hours to create but a system that does this task would be one of most beneficial medical breakthrough possible right now in my eyes.

Especially in mental health where there are symptoms of many things over many separate disorder, or rare one. It would be a bonus if you could let this information to be fully public, especially if one could direct users to relevant places.

Perhaps yes, but it is must remember that you can be cheap and spend money when needed. The problem comes when you are always cheap and never not so.

I am cheap but I will spend money on things that matter. I will not buy something so cheap it must be replaced when more expensive would last longer.

Being cheap is not always buying as little as you need, but buying the things that truly matter and not frivolous.

sorrow··on Review of a Linux laptop: Thinkpad T400. Do not buy it.
There is not much value to speak of here but for a laptop I have been very pleased with my Envy 133- does that count as HP? I am not sure if it qualifies for being a netbook, but it is nice size for me and offers me enough performance that I can do what I need. It is not my only computer though. If using just one I would also say desktop.

sorrow··on Google Has A Solution For Internet Explorer: Turn It Into Chrome
I was working on a project to do this, and I had made considerable progress. But when I decided to show it around to "some places" the reaction was overwhelming towards not to do it that I became discouraged and stopped.

Perhaps now the reaction has changed, as you seemed to receive a positive response. Or perhaps this is a selected community.

Many people in this field do not want something like this to become around though because it is such an easy target.

The other problem is many of IE6 are corporations and corporate machines. This will not help them, only other users.

I will re-investigate.
