someguyiguess··on A brief history of Windows scroll bar shortcuts
My windows button properly handles windows. Window + left arrow snaps left. Windows + down snaps it down. Etc… It’s literally the best default window manager any OS has.

Floating dickbars? What kind of websites are you visiting!?
someguyiguess··on A brief history of Windows scroll bar shortcuts
Sure. Not every computer has a keyboard either.
someguyiguess··on Apple has added persistent 'ads' to iOS, and it's driving users crazy
Keyboard shortcuts on Mac are a lot more consistent than windows and Linux actually. On a Mac command + C / V is copy / paste. In Linux sometimes it’s control + c, sometimes it’s control + shift + c.

Red = stop (close)

Yellow = yield (minimize)

Green = go (grow)

Makes sense to me.

My biggest gripe with windows is it will steal your cursor focus from password prompts. And when it surfaces a password prompt, it does not focus it automatically.

I accidentally sent my password in a Teams chat at work because an Auth prompt popped up so I naturally typed my password and hit enter like I would on a Mac.

Hilarious. But bad UX.

I love MacOS and it’s my primary OS and I couldn’t agree with you more on every single one of your points.

They have not had any innovation in desktop UI since 2005.

I have an iMac G5 running Tiger and the desktop environment is almost identical in every way. Except now it doesn’t look pretty like it did in the Aqua days.

Unless you want to use external monitors

I prefer iOS UX wise but I agree with you on keyboards, settings, alarms

Edit: and rotation

Wild take. I use both and iOS (other than settings menu which is absolute garbage) makes much more sensible design decisions than Google. And even Androids good design decisions are just variations on things they took from iOS. OG android was better. Now they’re just trying to be iOS+

Ah yes. Gnome. The beloved Linux distro that does not hold the Linux community back in any way shape or form. They’re doing a good thing by holding wayland development back and keeping us in the 90s forever! Go Gnome!

You mean like when I clicked this article? What an ad filled mess of a website.

I haven’t worked for Apple but you’re definitely correct. Just compare what Jobs said about using a stylus with how happy the company was to announce that you could use Apple Pencil with the iPhone duo. It is self-evident. It’s far from the company Jobs once ran.

The irony of this site having ads that cover 1/3 of my screen on mobile was absolutely lost on the author.
someguyiguess··on I said no and Apple said yes
Those are 2 different and often conflicting things.

I don’t speak Dutch but I agree. The Dutch version sounds way better.

Your argument is that Linux has better GPU driver support than Windows? Might want to do a bit of research on that one. You don’t remember Linux flipping Nvidia the bird?

Edit: I also experienced the Nvidia driver update that broke a bunch of things on my (Fedora) server last week.

someguyiguess··on I said no and Apple said yes
Fedora updated my Nvidia drivers 3 days ago and it broke my voice assistant. Yeah I fixed it and it can’t happen again but that sort of thing only happens on Linux (and windows probably)
someguyiguess··on I said no and Apple said yes
Yeah but the 1% can still accomplish whatever they want. It just may require a bit of code. No big deal if you’re in the 1%. And you get the added benefit of automatic security updates that don’t break critical system components like what happens from time to time in every Linux distro I’ve ever used over the last 20 years.
someguyiguess··on I said no and Apple said yes
They have one built in now and have had third party ones for over a decade. I used SizeUp to tile windows in Mac OS in 2013. Now the OS has it built in but I find Rectangle to be superior. And it’s free and much better than any window manager I’ve tried in any Linux Distro.
someguyiguess··on I said no and Apple said yes
That sentiment is rampant on this site.
someguyiguess··on I said no and Apple said yes
That simply isn’t true. You can disable whatever you want. You just may not be able to do it through the UI. I’ve customized my Mac to never phone home. It’s not hard if you know what you’re doing. It’s even easier if you don’t, and just ask Claude code to do it.
someguyiguess··on Will Open Source Survive the Agents That Replaced It?
I’ve often wondered the opposite. The number of pieces of software I used to pay for that I was able to replace with software I’ve built using agents is nearing double digits. I wonder how much longer people will need to pay huge software companies instead of just collaborate with a few other folks using AI and build their own better version.
someguyiguess··on Attention is all you have
You know your search results are personalized right? If I google something and my girlfriend googles the same thing, on the same network, we get different results.
someguyiguess··on Attention is all you have
Did the police gives out keys to my house and give some of them to criminals? Then yes.
someguyiguess··on Claude Status – Elevated errors for multiple models
I don’t understand your point or why people are upvoting this. I’ve done this between many different models. Did you just discover that a frontier model can read context? I genuinely don’t get your point. I’ve had to have Claude agents pick up codex’s context after it hits one of its “cannot connect” issues way more often than the other way around.

Printing money doesn’t create value. It dilutes value.
