People still use 1Password? There are such better alternatives. Why would you subject your self to that awful ux?

Wym? They had a banner up for months asking if you wanted to opt out.

Or 7 minutes a day.

There is no way Github had 100% uptime prior to the MS acquisition. Nobody has 100% uptime 100% of the time. They must have changed how they were measuring uptime.

Ah yes. Just like how Blockbuster Video remained relevant and everyone still uses it today.

Any sufficiently complex LLM is indistinguishable from AGI

I went back to 4.5. No regrets and it’s a bit cheaper.

I asked for a credit but they said they didn’t think the credit was necessary

It’s definitely a cost / resource saving strategy on their end.

Yes. It’s perfectly reasonable to expect the user to know the intricacies of the caching strategy of their llm. Totally reasonable expectation.

That’s sounds like a first amendment violation with more steps.

> Apple hasn't addressed the mass market in nearly two decades

What a wild take. I guess that explains the massive and growing popularity of iOS over that same time period.

someguyiguess··on Our eighth generation TPUs: two chips for the agentic era
Apple has not flopped on AI as you say. They are just focused on privacy and are likely waiting for the time when local models become efficient enough to run on iPhones (which is quickly becoming a reality).

Google could probably train models for orders of magnitude less money as you say, but they aren't. They are not capable of creating high quality models like OpenAI and Anthropic are. Their company is just too disorganized and chaotic.

Anecdotally, I don't know a single person who uses Gemini on purpose.

They have to have SOME competitive advantage. What reason is there to use Gemini over Claude or ChatGPT? It's not producing nearly the quality of output.

That is exactly what I would expect from someone with your username. Bravo.

Unless you are the one having to maintain that library. Then it just migrates the complexity to another location.
someguyiguess··on Laws of Software Engineering
Especially since a lot of them are written in a tongue-in-cheek way. And many are contradictory.

They were also worse in the past at times. Lion was a shit show. Worst OS X release. And does no one remember the 90s?
someguyiguess··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
For managing windows I agree Mac OS sucks. But the third party window managers I use for MacOS are better than any other first or third party window managers I’ve ever used. Windows has far better window management than any Linux distro’s default WM. (But it’s terrible in every other way)
someguyiguess··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
Except on Linux you have to remember which of the several different package managers each specific system uses. Do I use apt, apt-get, pacman, yum, dnf, flatpacks, build from source? Homebrew on MacOS is miles ahead in terms of DE in my experience. But yeah I guess by default the “App Store” is meh.
someguyiguess··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
I’ve found Mac OS to be snappier than any of the dozen or so Linux DEs I’ve tried. I use Fedora with XFCE and it’s ok in responsiveness, I’ve got PopOS on another machine. It’s good. But I’ve got MacOS on my other two machines and they just feel so much snappier. And the Macs are 6-7 years old. The other machines are newer (2/3yo).

Yeah. But then you have to use GPT
someguyiguess··on Anonymous request-token comparisons from Opus 4.6 and Opus 4.7
Honestly… that is a fair point. It’s not what I would assume by default but now that I’ve read what you said, I mean … I don’t disagree.
someguyiguess··on Claude Opus 4.7
My most charitable interpretation of what you are saying is: Two wrongs make a right. If others exploit people that makes it an acceptable thing for me to do. No one can criticize me for doing a bad thing because others also do bad things. Is that what you are saying?

I genuinely cannot see how to interpret it in a way that is positive.
