someguy101010··on Life without line numbers for 6% smaller Go binaries
No but the smaller the binary, the smaller the download size. Also it results in smaller docker containers, which is a popular way to ship go binaries.
someguy101010··on BMG: A Production Ready Relational Algebra in Ruby
Out of the choices that you listed, python is the best long term bet imo, especially for its overall practical use outside of SaaS products.
someguy101010··on Software reuse is more like an organ transplant than snapping Lego blocks (2011)
It really depends on the complexity of the software doesn't it? Libraries and packages often snap into my projects easily and without much modification at all, especially if I'm planning on using them. I can see this analogy working for more complex projects though, where you may be copy pasting code from on project to another and trying to make it fit together.

someguy101010··on Ask HN: How do you manage self-study?
Have you thought about hiring a tutor?
someguy101010··on Privacy Not Included
I feel infantalized after looking at that site, maybe I'm not the target audience but the people that this is targeting I would imagine feel like that too.
someguy101010··on Unemployment Rate in U.S. stands to hit 32% says Federal Reserve
The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that unemployment rose to 4.4% in March [1]. The article mentions that this was a back of the envelope calculation so I'm not going to panic just yet.

I wish I knew the havkernews equivalent for chemistry, finance, etc. The closest thing I've found was https://www.foundmyfitness.com/news for nutrition.
someguy101010··on Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft are asking staff to work from home
It may not go as well as would if it weren't so sudden though. I'd say that affects the results when comparing for a company that optimizes for remote.
someguy101010··on Recognising Burnout
I had a manager that forced me to take a day off at least once a month and I still owe them for that. I dont do it every month now, but I definitely take the time to rest more often and in the end I am much more productive.
someguy101010··on Ask HN: What are some books where the reader learns by building projects?
Thanks for the link!
someguy101010··on Ask HN: What are some books where the reader learns by building projects?
Boy if you could find the name of that book I'd really appreciate it
someguy101010··on Ask HN: What is the single top-priority software engineering problem?
It would improve it for me, but only because I'm a glorified google search monkey
someguy101010··on Ask HN: What Skills to Acquire in 2020?
I'm not saying that it's not a great lift, I'm just saying that most people can reach their fitness goals without it, and it's pretty easy to injure yourself doing a deadlift relative to other exercises.

[edit]: took a quick look at that video you posted though and that's an amazing resource! I look forward to checking out more of there videos.

someguy101010··on Ask HN: What Skills to Acquire in 2020?
Truthfully I dont think there is any reason for a regular person to deadlift. It's a pretty high risk exercise and you can hit those muscles groups with different exercises. If you are hard set on deadlifts though I recommend the hexbar deadlifts to reduce the chances for injury.

someguy101010··on Ask HN: Courses/resources to improve my self-esteem and believe in myself more?
Can not upvote this enough. It does get easier, but you have to do it every day, that's the hard part, but it does get easier

someguy101010··on To Pay Attention, the Brain Uses Filters, Not a Spotlight
Personally I have always had amplified psychedelic experiences when pairing them with cannabis and since using psychedelics, I've been much more sensitive to thc. It's weird that people have so many different experiences from those chemicals.
someguy101010··on Leak of Microsoft Salaries Shows Fight for Higher Compensation
Seems like the higher levels are a bit undercompensated compared to other FAANG companies but otherwise pretty average for a company like them
someguy101010··on I Quit Social Media for a Year
Well said, finding compelling info on here is such a dopamine rush. Receiving a dopamine rush from learning something interesting is probably a good thing though.
someguy101010··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (September 2019)
Location: Texas

Remote: yes

Willing to relocate: absolutely

Technologies: Python, Django, Kubernetes, React, Typescript, Go

Resume: https://resume.cacheconsiderations.com/

Email: rwendt1337@gmail.com

Currently working as a junior backend dev on a Django project. I have built a Kubernetes cluster from scratch from old laptops that I have laying around and deployed multiple projects on it including a lobste.rs clone and Apache Spark. I'm looking to pivot from backend work to more devops oriented roles but I have plenty of experience with backend work and thoroughly enjoy it. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

someguy101010··on What's new in Ubuntu 19.04
I liked it a lot, really didn't understand the community hate for it. At first it was not nice but it was pretty nice before it was deprecated.
someguy101010··on Benchmarking Go vs. Node vs. Elixir
Tldr?
someguy101010··on How to teach Git
The article is about how to get a more fundamental understanding idea on how git works, and this book demonstrates fundamental ideas on how git works. I don't see a problem in this reccomendation. If you want just a cursory knowledge of how to use git to get by, this probably not the right choice, but that's not really what this discussion is about is it?
someguy101010··on How to teach Git
I really think showing them how it works visually with a DAG is a great way to show someone how git works. Also, Linus has a great talk about git and how it works here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4XpnKHJAok8
