somecommit··on Bard Is Trained by Humans Who Say They’re Overworked, Underpaid and Frustrated
Google failed so much on the AI, this company R&D is a joke.
somecommit··on Indian developer fired 90 percent of tech support team, outsourced the job to AI
It's not a success because the AI is very smart, it's because the users are really dumb
somecommit··on YouTube, the jewel of the internet
Sure it's great, but one man can watch so much ads for Grammarly!
somecommit··on Regenerating Jordan’s native forests
No, the other one over the "green line", which can be seen from space, thanks to decades of reforestation
somecommit··on Most data work seems fundamentally worthless
That why this kind of department for sure was called R&D... His organization just didn't reached the "D"...
somecommit··on Musk’s first email to Twitter staff ends remote work
Do not forget that twitter purchased Vine and shoot it off, just in order to enable Tiktok taking over. That's not a very smart company for sure.
somecommit··on Octopuses caught on camera throwing things at each other
Interesting open-space dynamic
somecommit··on DontBuyDell.com
All what I see I could tell the same for Asus (in particular for a Vivobook I pay something close to a mac air, it's so deceiving in comparison)
somecommit··on Replace the “very” in your sentence
Very useful
somecommit··on Why wasn’t the steam engine invented earlier? Part III
My take is that they were not seeing the point to do so for the most easy one (like a mill, a press...) and from the other hand for clearly useful and advanced device like a vehicle/train it's the lack of amount of available combustible and iron. Even a train, it's possible that nobody were seeing clearly "why" it could be useful, do you really need to go so far with that amount of people? There were so much less people in the past, same for merchandise quantity probably.

But the response in the article about the knowledge of the "vacuum possibility" is also very interesting, it is not mentioning this but it's crazy to think that we only know that the space emptiness is possible since Einstein theory 100 years ago (and not full of ether).

Or that with the first locomotive people feared to die because of the speed.

somecommit··on Cloud services like AWS or Google Cloud Platform may be the wrong choice
Whateversimple cloud service you use, it's likely using AWS underneath anyway. Like Netlify for example, I think it's all based on AWS.
somecommit··on Why I Don't Use Netscape (1999)
Need some max-width to whatever the average screen was back in 1999.

True story, I re-uploaded a website that I wrote in 1999, only now I discover that my header was never centered, if was just floating left. It's the only thing that look off, everything else is working perfectly. HMTL/CSS/JS is really a stable stack for the computer field.

somecommit··on VideoLAN has issued a legal notice to Indian Gov for banning their website
(conspiracy mode on:) Maybe the version with malware is linked to some high-earning scam company located in India
somecommit··on The technology behind Bella Hadid’s spray-on dress
Great, now invent a vacuum working the other way around
somecommit··on Parent time
It has nothing to do with the conversation itself, it's a very common case of middle age crisis (You will note his parent are 65, he's certainly something around 40). All human arriving at this age experience the same. It's a very sane crisis, once you sink you have limited resource and limited time, you can really accomplish interesting projects.
somecommit··on The PS5 Has Been Jailbroken
Above all, gaming is one of the useless hobbies. I love it so much, yet it's giving so little to self-improvement...
somecommit··on Bizarre Vintage Photos of Steam Engines After a Boiler Explosion
Nice vintage selfies
somecommit··on Yom Kippur War
> Conditions for a crossing were good, it was a fast day in Israel [...] On the other hand, the fact that the attack was launched on Yom Kippur may have helped Israel to more easily marshal reserves from their homes and synagogues because roads and communication lines were largely open, easing the mobilization and transportation of the military

Interesting paradox I've never considered

somecommit··on ReScript 10.0
No need to look at google trend, Typescript is too big by now, many libraries client and server use it out of the box, and the possible advantages of this competitor look very small in comparison.

I even don't understand why browser don't start to work on supporting it directly, maybe google/chrome have something in mind and slowing down its integration, or it's because of performance issues.

somecommit··on Linux on the laptop works so damn well that it’s boring
The only thing restricting me to use it at home is the lack of parental control.
somecommit··on Most books don't sell only a dozen copies
Writing a book in 2022 is like opening a DVD renting shop...
somecommit··on Ask HN: Is there any beautiful Markdown editor?
this, I use it to write my CV since some years, works perfectly
somecommit··on Google blocks Truth Social from the Play Store
Twitter is so safe in comparison...
somecommit··on Another ship stuck in Suez Canal – Affinity V
Waiting a update on this website https://istheshipstillstuck.com/
somecommit··on Random Google Street View
Interestingly it's mainly rural areas. I don't know why but I was expecting mostly more city views, because of all the intricate roads system in cities.
somecommit··on Shouting in the Datacenter (2008) [video]
Yeah I noticed this phenomenon already, every times I'm shouting at my collaborators they start crying and procrastinating, classic.
somecommit··on Plasma reactors could create oxygen on Mars
Should we blast a giant hole into Mars? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnRzsQOZSfQ
somecommit··on Google Maps launches Street View in India
That's need some courage and determination for sure
somecommit··on You Might Not Need jQuery
Clearly posting this in 2022 is really funny, it is almost 10 year old I guess? Technically it's still interesting for improving one code style but does jQuery still heavy in use nowadays? I mean people use it, but I suppose more by choice than by default, they have to really WANT to use it.
