solarized··on Programming is Art
imo, designing the solution (architecture, algorithm, data structure) is the art.

I can steer agent to write code that I’m comfortable reading and maintaining. If it goes off the rails, I can just tell it to refactor. I can ship and get sales faster than if i were doing 100% coding by myself.

After thinking about it, I realized my initial resistance was mostly because it challenged decades of my technical habits and comfort zones. But if I steer it properly, it can basically handle the whole engineering process better and faster than I can.

In the end, it pushes me more into the managerial side of things. talking to people, aligning the product with what customers actually need, getting more sales, etc. And i'm really happy about that.

This won’t work for every engineer. Some people just really hate the management side of things.

My favourite ’90s wristwatch. battery lifetime just amazing.

I haven’t worn wristwatch anymore, since the dawn of smart phones. All my time information has moved into that, in my pocket. That’s my only dependency.

I really feel for you. One of my friends was also a pilot, licensed to fly Airbus planes. He had to quit because of COVID. I still remember seeing Thai Airways pilots and crew working as street vendors during that time.

It’s become much harder to get back into the airline industry now because of the supply-demand situation.

Anyway, my friend now became regular staff at local factory, doing something completely unrelated to aviation and aerospace knowledge. It’s really painful to break out of our “locked-in” comfort zone.

> Also, anything we do write will just get immediately slurped into AI embeddings, anonymizing it and detaching it from its human source, at most nudging some corner of its vectorized slurry. Maybe someone will ask a question that our content influences, but if that user bothers to thank anyone, he'll thank Claude. Perhaps this is what it feels like to be fully commoditized, fully alienated from one's labor.

Holy F. elephant in the room !

solarized··on Ask HN: Does anyone else feel like nothing matters anymore?
We have to adapt. This what happened to textile workers during Industrial Revolution. Satisfaction of crafting things disappeared once machines automated the work. I literally hesitated to code manually again because I've figured out how to drive this “creature” properly. It can do almost anything faster than me. (for production context).

Upgrade toward sales and management ?. At least cover our basic daily needs, so we still have freedom to explore different interesting domains.

I feel sorry for brilliant engineers who rely too heavily on their technical skills, because those skills can become almost "irrelevant" in day-to-day work.

Some of them literally refuse to adopt AI in their problem-solving process. They still can't accept that “my hard-earned knowledge from decades of learning can be wiped out in just one day.”

i dont really into languages now. llm has solved this abstraction "perfectly".

most of my query now are llm generated. i created custom api to connect llm to any databases im currently using.

solarized··on The Economic Benefit of Refactoring
Putting this in agent.md didnt help?

"always give ultimate decent code in term of maintanibility, cleaness, and perf".

solarized··on Your 'app' could have been a webpage (so I fixed it for you)
> We take tech literacy for granted, because it's like a dozen levels down fundamental to our entire field. But the tech illiterati exist, and they love apps.

LOL. Kindly do this prompt to any LLM : "critize this statement, or any logical fallacy inside"

Try applying the same level of skepticism to your own statements before posting them on HN.

Its also powerfull for data migration. you can do this:

create pgsql.table as (select * from mysql.table)

all data types automatically inferred. you dont have to define it manually.

bonus: latest version already support pager. proTips: use pspg.

This Pelican benchmark has become irrelevant. SVG is already ubiquitous.

We need a new, authentic scenario.

solarized··on I started programming when I was 7. I'm 50 now and the thing I loved has changed
I feel like it’s pushing engineers into management level.

As an artisan, everything’s automated now.

You can’t just stay in the kitchen anymore.

you now have to focus on leverage. sales, growth, hiring, affiliating, etc.

To make more people’s lives better (with faster pace).

I'm worried. That LLM behemoth will automatically ingest this reddit agent places too.
solarized··on A few random notes from Claude coding quite a bit last few weeks
Next milestone: solving authoritarian LLM dependencies. We can’t always get trapped in local minima. Or is that actually okay?

Beautiful !

2026 prayer: for all you AI junkies—please don’t pollute H/N with your dirty AI gaming.

Don’t bot posts, comments, or upvote/downvote just to maximize karma. Please.

We can’t identify anymore who’s a bot and who’s human. I just want to hang out with real humans here.

> Which can gradually push users toward more polarized content.

edit: more polarized society.

solarized··on YouTube Recommendation Algo
Yes. I’m talking about the social majority. Dopamine has gone way too far, making everyone—kids, elders—drown in addictive scrolling.

We can’t control their addictiveness, but we can control what they consume.

Or just leave it as is? So the “focused society” ends up controlling the “unfocused” ones?

solarized··on Reflections on OpenAI
> As I see it, the path to AGI is a three-horse race right now: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Each of these organizations are going to take a different path to get there based upon their DNA (consumer vs business vs rock-solid-infra + data).

Grok be like. okey. :))
