That's not a controversial heading though.

I probably wouldn't have read the article, because no shit, that would be obvious

snug··on An ode to that “coffee friend”
idk, the way this guy is describing his coffee friend, seems like me. I wouldn't say my hobby is coffee, but I have beans I grind, and have my favorite coffee spot. But I am not a "coffee snob." I can drink coffee straight but prefer with milk, and generally won't drink an espresso shot. I love a PSL, and always get a latte otherwise. I love when people get me coffee beans from somewhere, especially if they are whole beans!

Edit: I do think this applies to lots of other hobbies though

I also don't understand paying for this when both Apple and Chrome have one, and you can even use the chrome one instead of apple for most things on the iPhone
snug··on One man’s fight to end California’s ban on ferrets
Something I found out about moving to California from Texas where I had a ferret. You could still buy ferret food in California, even though they are banned. The ferret sadly passed away before I moved, or even planned to move.

You can set the sensitivity on it, I think i've only accidentally turned it on once since then
snug··on Fallacies of distributed systems
These are fallacies of distributed systems, most of these are the reasons you want to have a distributed system. You build distributed systems because you know - Servers restart, so you replicate and load balance - Dependencies matter, so you build circuit breakers, and health checks - Infra is heterogeneous, this is why you use containers - Hardware is unreliable, again, replicate, load balance, and HA - Provide APIs for your clients to communicate with your service - Logging and metrics are expensive, collect what you need, prom helps with this, logging is not fully solved - Do people really think there are no bugs?

snug··on Before camping got wimpy: Roughing it with the Victorians
I've always heard of

camping = pull up somewhere and pitch the tent, you may be near a lake or some hiking, but you generally aren't going far with all of your gear, also call this car camping

backpacking = putting all of your gear in a backpack and hiking to your destination, packing up and continuing on to the next spot or head back. There's no set milage or time you need to hike in order to call it backpacking, but I'd say it's where you start thinking about the things you don't need to bring with you because you don't have room in the one bag you have or it's too heavy

snug··on I'm common as muck and spent £150 to try a Michelin star restaurant
Omakase Tacos at the bar! They give you a drink with every taco, and usually someone won't like a drink and they'll make a special one, ask them curiously what that drink was and they will make you one. All drinks are included on the tasting menu!

Others have answered, but there is a tool that helps with trusting oracle data, called Chainlink ($LINK)

Chainlink uses a proof a stake (POS) concept where it calls out to a number of LINK nodes that have staked assets for liability in order to win rewards. With all of the Oracles data it goes through an algorithm, for simplicity, let's say the average of all the prices it received, gives the nodes a reputation score, on top of that it uses the reputation of the nodes to choose who ultimately fulfills the request, the number of tokens staked will also take into account. If reputation starts going negative, they could lose the tokens they have staked.

Where does LG do it? Honestly I've had two LGs for about 4 years now and have not noticed any ads, maybe some in their content store, but that's about it. Overall pretty happy with LG

snug··on SRE Doesn’t Scale
I like to think of it more of a separation of components needed to do the job.

Need a database, use a database as it's own service, don't couple the database to the app, so if you need to scale the app horizontally you can add more replicas. If you need to scale the database vertically, you can scale the database vertically. If these are coupled, you scale only whats needed.

On top of that use the language or tool that is meant for the job. If you need something written in go, build your service with go, if you need nodejs, do it with node, etc.

Microservices don't need to be micro or small

That was blocked at the web interface, if you wanted to use one of those tokens you could directly interact with the smart contract to get around those blocks

San Francisco to be specific
snug··on Maskless Mayor London Breed caught breaking SF health order at Tenderloin club

Sitting behind a table where her drinks are

> Are you the mayor and instituting executive orders requiring masks indoors for the whole city?

No but I am okay with her executive order, I live in the city and mask up, I don't like that I have to wear a mask, but I wear it when I need to. In her situation, I don't think she is breaking any rules/laws about wearing a mask. She's only around the people that are in her party

snug··on Maskless Mayor London Breed caught breaking SF health order at Tenderloin club
She's behind a table with her drinks, this is hardly breaking SF health order, do I need to put my mask on after every sip? Not a great look, but this is just silly.
