snowram··on LLM Ass Bench
Because it is ass.
snowram··on Measure internet censorship
Plenty of people are happy to surrender their freedom for a feeling of security.
snowram··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
That exist, kinda. Android gaming handhelds have mobile SoC and also active cooling. See Ayn and Retroid devices. Their (almost) throttle free is a very nice experience.
snowram··on The sale of Electronic Arts has been finalized
EA being voted as the worst company has always been funny to me. The world would be a far better place if it was indeed the case.
snowram··on GCC steering committee announces AI policy
Lwn.net is the last place I would have expected prophets to lecture us on gods plan for large language models.
snowram··on Valve releases Steam Controller CAD files under Creative Commons license
It is a red water business, and no one will ever want to switch off from multiple years of game investment.
snowram··on ASML became the chokepoint for cutting-edge chips
WDYM? IDK, LGTM.
snowram··on “Microslop” filtered in the official Microsoft Copilot Discord server
It reminds me of the US army and their fabulous idea to open a Twitch channel. Went as well as you expect.
snowram··on The quixotic team trying to build a world in a 20-year-old game
Roblox commercialized that excitement. Kids now work directly for them and pretty much for free.
snowram··on Show HN: Wildex – Pokémon Go for real wildlife
"No officer, I am just using this AR-15 as a walking stick. A gun is neutral isn't it?"
snowram··on Game Boy Advance Audio Interpolation
Accuracy isn't always the point of video game emulators since gaming experience is a subjective thing. Most of old games were crippled by the limitations of the hardware their run on. Inaccuracies can very much improve the experience, like removing sprite limits, displaying wider aspect ratios or in this case improving sound interpolation.
snowram··on Claude's new constitution
We just have to define what an "error" is first, good luck with that.
snowram··on JPEG XL Test Page
Considering "jpeg" has become the shorthand for "digital picture", it would be a shame not to capitalise on it.
snowram··on Fire Shuts GTA 6 Developer Rockstar North, Following Report of Explosion
GTA6 is most likely the most anticipated cultural product of all times. Unfortunately, sensationalization makes perfect sense from news websites perspective.
snowram··on Microsoft May Have Created the Slowest Windows in 25 Years with Windows 11
Multiple reasons : IA pushback, better gaming experience, Linux becoming more and more mainstream with distro like Bazzite and CachyOS.
snowram··on 65% of Hacker News posts have negative sentiment, and they outperform
Country specific subs aren't better either. They slowly changed from comfy places to talk about laid back topics to a full on brigaded cesspool where only the most polarizing opinion thrive.
snowram··on Brave overhauled its Rust adblock engine with FlatBuffers, cutting memory 75%
Because ad blocking isn't provided by default in Firefox. It isn't as opinionated as Brave, for the better and the worse.
snowram··on Stardew Valley developer made a $125k donation to the FOSS C# framework MonoGame
Those games are a grain of sand in the infinite desert that is the indie game world. The vast majority of indie games on Steam are barely even noticed by anyone.
snowram··on Xlibre is a fork of the Xorg Xserver with lots of code cleanups
Huh huh, he could have just said "PRs are welcome" then. This is a window manager, no need to be weird by being this specific.
snowram··on Gaming on Linux has never been more approachable
It is when those anticheats gatekeep the most popular PC games. For most gamers, they can't compromise on what they play and there is still a very large amount of potential games that would forbid a switch to another OS. See : https://areweanticheatyet.com/
snowram··on VLC's Jean-Baptiste Kempf Receives the European SFS Award 2025
Thank god not every post has to look like a LinkedIn story.
snowram··on Linux gamers on Steam cross over the 3% mark
You over estimate the will/knowledge of everyday people to do anything else than buy a branded PC, install Steam and be done with it.
snowram··on Show HN: Cobalt – a pixel-art painting studio for the Nintendo DS
Little known fact, the original DS touch screen is pressure sensitive. I don't know of any games using this feature, but the Colors homebrew does use it! So the DS was a fairly convenient digital art machine for its time.
snowram··on Intel Arc Pro B50 GPU Launched at $349 for Compact Workstations
I wonder why everyone keep saying "just put more VRAM" yet no cards seem to do that. If it is that easy to compete with Nvidia, why don't we already have those cards?
snowram··on Poisoning Well
LLM can create new things, since their whole purpose is to interpolate concepts in a latent space. Unfortunately they are mostly used to regurgitate verbatim what they learned, see the whole AI Ghibli craze. Blame people and their narrow imagination.
snowram··on What is it like to be a bat?
Wittgenstein famously said "If a lion could talk, we could not understand him". This subject is a philosophical fun rabbit hole to explore.
snowram··on The Minecraft Code (2024) [video]
It is rather common in gaming to communities to find people completely obessed over ultra specific details of their favorite game. It isn't even the first time for Minecraft, see the "pack.png" case.
snowram··on I watched Gemini CLI hallucinate and delete my files
You should check the MMAcevedo short story. It substitutes a LLM with a real human psyche, resulting in horrifying implications like this one.

snowram··on Bypassing Google's big anti-adblock update
I browse the web daily, and the number of website that ever gave me trouble on Firefox can be counted on a single hand. The website compatibility issue is vastly overblown.
snowram··on Idiocracy
Idiocracy, just like 1984, is the catchall exemple someone will use when having no idea on how to articulate their feelings about a society they don't like.
