snarfy··on We ported the original Doom to SQL
This reminds me of LINQ raytracer https://github.com/lukehoban/LINQ-raytracer

It even uses a ycombinator :D

snarfy··on What is going on with ceiling fans
I was in the Costco this weekend waiting in line to get a vaccine and decided to look up. I was amazed at the warehouse sized ceiling fans they have. They are huge.
snarfy··on Pi Durable
Dots, durable, digital worker, it seems the whole agent space is converging on always-on packaged agents.
snarfy··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
It is different. The scale makes it different. It's different when it is all copyrighted works and IP. It's different when you solve Navier-Stokes by taking "inspiration" from a researcher's private work.
snarfy··on SpaceX's Starship launching to orbit for first time ever today
Cybertrucks, solar roofs and SolarCity failed just the same.
snarfy··on Guitar amp and effects pedal built on the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-2.06
Oh I see this was answered, 4ms total, very nice.

How is the latency?
snarfy··on Video CDs Break Windows Explorer
I still have in my possession somewhere printouts in 3 ring binders of the red, blue, and yellow books.

I am very glad that stuff all died.

snarfy··on I am done with this shit
Yes but also picking up different skills and thinking ability. I've accepted the old way is obsolete.
snarfy··on Samsung accidentally freezes its smart fridges with a software update
Yeah, my hot water heater has an app. I'm not happy about this.
snarfy··on I am done with this shit
I am both. I am shipping multiple working projects per week in my hobby. It is liberating to have my own virtual dev team.

In my day job I have 30 different instances of the coding agent all running simultaneously and it is still not enough to do all that is asked, while simultaneously doing all of the human interaction and do things previously delegated to the project managers they fired. Everything gets shipped half finished before being put on the next hot thing.

snarfy··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
I still wear them now, but I've quit them before. It took about a year. Same steps as the 6 week steps, just drawn out further.

They tell you not to cut them, because that cuts into their profits. It's a sticker. The amount of nicotine you get is directly proportional to the surface area. A step 3 patch is exactly 1/3 the size of a step 1. This makes it extremely easy to control the exact amount to tapper off.

The hard part most people don't get is the addiction is only about 50% physical to the nicotine. Your brain craves the habit regardless of the chemical. Habits suck. People seek help to stop chewing their fingernails. I still go for walks with the regularity of smoking. I can feel it. It builds up. I need to go for a walk. Same as going for a cigarette before.

snarfy··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
I smoked my first cigarette at 6, really started at 13 and smoked 2 packs a day for 30 years. Patches are the best way.
snarfy··on I said no and Apple said yes
Are there any games in particular or is this a blanket statement? I've switched and not missed anything. I stopped playing Fortnite, but it's not a very good game anyway. The gaming world is huge with plenty of variety.
snarfy··on M5 Ultra Mac Studio Review
$12,299
snarfy··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
nice idea
snarfy··on How much oil-market buffer is left?
Electricity is not a source though. Do you mean solar, nuclear, and such? The demand is already there. It's the supply that is the issue.
snarfy··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
Yep precisely it. Worth it to control the narrative, even if it's for his own vanity. When you have that much money what else do you spend it on. X is a toy.
snarfy··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
I have been wearing Vans for so long my foot is the shape of one. This made me check their stock... ouch.
snarfy··on Inverse Kinematics and Foot Locking
Is it really a problem? Game mechanics and physics are not always meant or desired to be realistic.
snarfy··on Inverse Kinematics and Foot Locking
This is a really great presentation
snarfy··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
There could be lock levels to this. By default everything is unlocked (level = 0), but if a content provider / host receives a signal/header with lock-level > 0 they should be required to honor it. Something like this would require government which means it will probably never happen. Much more power asymmetry to just track you.
snarfy··on I Don't Have a Smartphone
I don't use apps. It's a phone with a web browser and camera.
snarfy··on Aging brains blend memories together instead of just forgetting them
My dreams imprint stronger than reality. This has the unfortunate effect of sometimes recalling memories as real, when in fact it was all a dream.
snarfy··on You Know Who Hates AI? Insurance Claims Adjusters
Anybody that has worked on a phone exchange knows they already do this sort of thing. Some customers just never get through to a person. This is by design.
snarfy··on Study: Blue light impairs the eye's ability to distinguish fine detail most
Blue Blocker glasses were a thing since the 80s
snarfy··on GLM-5.3 is now open-weight
Jalapeno is matching or very near Vera Rubin at 1/4 the power. I would not buy hardware now.
snarfy··on PageRank explained
Yes anybody can be in the right place at the right time.
snarfy··on The treasury bond mess: is this the demise of the US as a safe haven?
"Give us money to pay for our military or else our military will intervene"
snarfy··on Solo – a .so loader for static Linux binaries
You normally do this sort of thing with plan old `dlopen` and `dlsym` and make your own "plugin" system.
