sn00tz00t··on [dead]
Literally from the abstract in the link: "The findings reveal that, overall, far-right populist discourses in alt-tech communities predominantly support the processes of democracy and uphold most (though not all) of its values. Understanding these discourses is crucial for safeguarding liberal democracy in a context of rising illiberalism."
sn00tz00t··on Governor of Amazonas wants to charge Amazon royalties for use of the brand
Amazon.com Inc is feeding off the egregore of the Amazon rainforest. Its not a coincidence that the Rainforest retreats at the same pace Amazon.com's profits climb.
sn00tz00t··on Tyrian purple: Ancient pigment that was more valuable than gold
You can make natural purple dyes with ammonia and some lichens. Smashing up and boiling rare snails sounds like ass compared to that.

sn00tz00t··on Paraguay official resigns after signing agreement with fictional country
I recall a lot of micronations seeking to have their country mentioned in writing by any official, with some beseeching the Queen or other foreign affairs ministries.

Apparently a polite mention in a letter is enough in their interpretation to qualify as an actual nation.

sn00tz00t··on Being homeless means not being free − as Americans are supposed to be

sn00tz00t··on Canadian coins bearing Charles's image minted
Pretty interesting that it has "D.G. Rex" on them. Australias version doesn't even refer to him as a king - will just say "Charles III"

sn00tz00t··on Biggest 'Shrinkflation' Scandal Yet: Oreo Fans Think Cookies Have Less Filling
The craziest shrinkflation for me has been loaves of bread. I have a toaster press thing where you place two slices of buttered bread with some cheese or something in between and then you compress it all between two heated plates. The appliance is about 10+ years old now.

The bread used to be too large for the appliance and would spill out the edges making the press 'crimp' the bread so all the liquid cheese would stay within. Nowadays the bread I place inside does not even cover 4/5ths of the plate. Feels like a 30-40% reduction in area of my bread and its like 2x as expensive. The cheese spills out the side and causes big cleanup problems.

The west has fallen.

sn00tz00t··on Self-service: Booths supermarket puts staff back behind its tills
I don't enjoy having a camera with facial recognition pointed at my face when purchasing groceries. I also don't enjoy 10:1 ratio of card vs cash registers.
sn00tz00t··on Why Is It So Difficult to Map the Ocean?

sn00tz00t··on Why Is It So Difficult to Map the Ocean?
how are bathymetric maps made? if i go to google maps i can see the ocean floor in low res - is that done by satellites?

i remember trying to find data of a particular area (near azores) using NOAA maps and all i found was some sort of compendium maps made by different vessels across the years mashed together in a hodge podge of resolutions

life sounds rough for ocean floor researchers lmao

Its a jesuit W and catholic L. Jesuits have always sought to poison the church.
sn00tz00t··on World's largest aircraft breaks cover in Silicon Valley
Looks awesome, but I'm reminded of something I read ages ago that planes occasionally land in the USA with bullet holes in them and its "normal" according to ATC. How would something LTA deal with that?
sn00tz00t··on The Uprising of Mesopunk Books

sn00tz00t··on China's TikTok users are being told that Aristotle did not exist
I'm actually interested in the reasons but I can't view the article unfortunately. Can anyone give bullet points as to why this Jin Cantong person believes Aristotle isn't real?

A lot of westerners really enjoy Chinese history, and some (Western) Christian sects have even incorporated aspects of it such as the yellow emperor (Huangdi) as a special incarnation.

Just wondering if its some lame ideologically subversive thing or they have inconvenient truths for us.

sn00tz00t··on List Of Adhesive Tapes
Can anyone tell me the benefit of using parafilm over tape/clingwrap in the lab?

Not sure if its just a meme or there's something more to it. Seems like even cling wrap would be better.

sn00tz00t··on Psychedelics and mental illness
https://erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Mushrooms.shtml

Neat list of mushroom trip experiences.

Ranging from schizophrenic horror unimagined to unenglishable religious experiences.

I've had both experiences in the same trip. I'd hate to be on my deathbed and have a bad trip tho.
